TLE_ICTD9-12AL-IIIa-b-1
1. Define wall-footings and footing-column;
2. Identify the different footing-column used in foundation plan;
LEARNING 3. Illustrate the standard sizes of wall-footing and footing-column in a
OBJECTIVES foundation plan;
4. Illustrate the position of wall footings and footing columns by
indicating its position and location in the foundation plan.
IMPORTANT and
assessment sheets provided separately.
UNDERSTAND
Wall-Footing: this is also known as strip footing;
it is a continuous strip of concrete that serves to
spread the weight of a load-bearing wall across
the area of the soil.

Kinds of Footings
1. Wall Footing is a footing which supports a wall by extending along the entire length of the
wall.
2. Isolated Footing is one which supports a single column, post, pier or other concentrated load.
3. Combined Footing is one which supports two column loads or sometimes three column loads
not in a row.
4. Cantilever footing is one which supports two column loads and consists of two footings
connected by a beam often called a strap
6. Raft or mat footing is one which extends under the entire building area and supports all the
wall and column loads from the building.

Standard Size of a Wall-Footing Standard Size of Footing-Column
Indicating footing-columns and wall-footings in planning if very important as this will show the
distribution of weight loads in the structure. Identifying its position is also very vital as this will show
where to focused on the strength of the house.
Position of each footing column should not be more than 4.00 meters apart as this is stated in
National building Code of the Philippines, it should be spread and distributed orderly to avoid major
catastrophe.

REMEMBER
Key Points
In indicating and locating wall-footing and footing-column, one must remember the following;
A. Sizes of footing column is very important as these structural members will transmit load to
the soil.
B. The design and sizes of wall-footing and footing-column depends on the soil test conducted
by the engineers.
C. Adding details such as moldings and architectural details on the column will add aesthetic
value on the structure.
D. Structural analysis is conducted by the engineer; hence it will be best to consult and ask for advice
from a registered engineer.
