Application Instructions

Participation Criteria
To be eligible for this dialogue, you must be:
1. Be at least 18 years of age.
2. Must have completed at least 2 semesters of study with the home university; be an
outstanding student leader with a strong academic and co-curricular involvement, as well
as the ability to act as a youth representative of your home university and country.
3. Citizen and resident of the country of your home university.
4. Be able to operate in English, which is the working language of the programme. Please
attach your highest English certification (eg. IELTS, TOEFL), if any. You may be
interviewed through a telephone/Skype interview to show your proficiency in English.
5. Be able to travel and commit to the entire period of the dialogue in Singapore.
6. Recommended by your home university.
7. Be fully vaccinated with WHO EUL vaccines (click here for definition of fully vaccinated) /
medically exempted from Covid-19 vaccination at least two weeks before arrival in
Singapore.

Applicants should also take note that full-time attendance at the dialogue by the selected
participants is mandatory. Participants should be committed to investing time to prepare for and
actively participate in the Youth Forum.

3. Highest English certification (eg. IELTS, TOEFL), if any

Please double-check the accuracy of all information provided. Note that you must provide all
information truthfully. Any false data or statement made will subject you to be disqualified from
the programme.
If your e-mail is successfully received, you will receive an email reply from us. You are not
required to mail your documents to us.

Selection Criteria
A committee from NTU-USP and Temasek Foundation will select the participants based on
principles of equitable geographical representation, balanced gender distribution, diversity of
backgrounds (e.g. age, areas of studies and additional experience), and the quality of the
personal statement.

Results of Application
Successful applicants will be notified and given one week to accept the offer. If the applicant is
unable to respond within the one-week deadline, the offer may be revoked and given to other
applicants on the standby list.

If you do not hear from us by 30 April 2022, you may consider your application unsuccessful.
Unsuccessful applicants are welcome to reapply next year. You can keep a lookout for future

About the Dialogue

1. What is Youth Regional Affairs Dialogue 2022?


Organised by Nanyang Technological University-University Scholars Programme (NTU-
USP) and supported by Temasek Foundation, the Youth Regional Affairs Dialogue 2022
is a semi-annual platform for university students in Asia to enhance their leadership skills
and broaden their understanding of geopolitics.

Participants will have an opportunity to develop an appreciation of Asia’s interwoven


geopolitical structure through discussions on economics, politics, and society. They can
also build a deeper understanding of governance and policies across Asia as they build
friendships through cross-cultural exchanges.

2. What is NTU-USP?
As one of NTU’s leading Premier Scholars Programmes, NTU-USP is committed to
providing an intellectually rigorous environment for students to explore realms that
complement their major areas of study at their respective schools. The programme aims
to develop independent thinkers, nurture empathetic leaders, and foster an engaged
community. NTU-USP does this through a highly interdisciplinary curriculum, exciting co-
curricular activities, and immersive cultural experiences in Singapore and overseas that
supplement the core curriculum and general education programme. Find out more about

3. What is Temasek Foundation?

4. When will the event be held?


YRAD 2022 will be held from 23 rd – 31st July 2022.

5. What can I achieve out of this dialogue?


YRAD 2022 aims to nurture and develop future Asian leaders with a regional and global
appreciation of Asia’s interwoven geopolitical structure, with a particular emphasis on
social cohesion. The programme hopes to forge long-term connections between
outstanding undergraduate students as the future leaders of Asia.

With participation from local Singaporean students and international students from all
across Asia, you can expect to make great connections and friendships, as well as learn
more about other countries in greater depth.

6. What is the topic of discussion in YRAD 2022?


YRAD 2022 will focus on Social Cohesion, with 5 sub-themes to be discussed in the
dialogue:
A. Culture & Identity
B. Income Inequality & Social Mobility
C. Growing Intergenerational Divide
D. Media, Information & Technology
E. Healthcare & Well-Being

Guest speakers will also conduct talks about Connectivity Beyond Technology and the
Paradox of Cohesion.

7. How and where will YRAD 2022 be conducted?


YRAD 2022 will be held on the NTU campus in Singapore.

8. If I am not available on certain days, can I participate in part of the programme


only?
Full-time attendance and participation in the dialogue is mandatory. Any leave from
Singapore or the programme during the dialogue duration is strictly not allowed.

9. What are the Covid-19 precautions taken for the event?


As the Covid situation is still evolving, the organising committee is constantly monitoring
the situation and will adjust the programme logistics accordingly. All participants must be
fully vaccinated/medically exempted to participate in the event. Full compliance with the
prevailing Safe Management Measures as announced by the Singapore Ministry of
Health will be observed.

Shortlisted international applicants who are unable to enter Singapore due to Covid-19
travel restrictions will still be able to participate in the dialogue virtually through Zoom
and forge friendships with other participants through group activities as well.

Cost & Accommodation

10. Will I need to pay to participate?


Since YRAD is a fully-funded programme, there is no cost to participate. The programme
fee, accommodation, and a stipend for living allowances in Singapore during the
programme will be covered. For international participants, airfare, travel insurance, visa,
transport to and from Changi Airport, and costs for mandatory swab tests for
predeparture from home country and in Singapore will also be covered.

Note: Both travel insurance and visa will be capped at S$80 per pax.
11. How will I receive the stipend?
Successful applicants will receive their stipend in cash upon arriving on the first day of
the programme. You will also be asked to sign a document to acknowledge the stipend
received.

12. What is the process for receiving my travel insurance?


Subject to your country’s travel insurance policies, we will cover the costs accordingly.
Successful applicants may email us at dialogue@ntu.edu.sg should you require more
information regarding this.

13. Where will accommodation be provided?


To reduce daily travel time to the dialogue venue, participants will receive twin-sharing
accommodation at NTU’s Nanyang Executive Centre.

14. Can I choose to stay elsewhere instead of the accommodation provided?


Staying in the accommodation provided is mandatory for participants.

Applications

15. When is the application period?


Applications will begin on 21 st January 2022 and close on 13th March 2022. Selected
students will be informed of their successful application by April 2022.

16. Who can apply?


YRAD welcomes outstanding student leaders in Asia with a strong academic and co-
curricular involvement. If you have these qualifications and a passion for current
geopolitical issues, we invite you to apply.

Priority will be given to undergraduate students. However, graduate students are


welcome to apply as well.

17. How many students will be able to participate?


A total of forty international students and forty local students will be selected for this
dialogue.

18. How can I apply for the programme?


Applicants must email an application form together with their transcripts. Shortlisted
candidates will be contacted directly via email. Please check our webpage here to
download the application form.
