1. TOURISM - DISCUSS
It is widely believed that tourism has become a heated debate in our society in recent years.
While some people say that tourism has some benefits for local communities, others argue that it
may cause more pain than gain. Personally I can understand the two opposing points of views; I
am both fascinated by tourism and apprehensive about its possible negative effects.
On the one hand, tousim should bring some obvious benefits. First, tourism is clearly able to
boost the economy of local communities. When tourism develops, it will attract many tourists,
thereby creating many jobs for local people and increasing income for the people there. Phu
Quoc Island is a typical example. Thanks to tourism, this island has developed from a fishing
village into one of the richest places in Vietnam. Second, tourism is the best way to help promote
the culture of local communities. It is true that the local image will spread when more tourists
come, thus making people better understand the cultural heritage in those places.
On the other hand, I share the concerns of people who believe that tourism has certain
disadvantages. From an environmental perspective, tourism can cause serious pollution in local
communities. A large number of vehicles such as cars, buses, trains and other vehicles will
appear if tourism develops, all of which contribute to increased carbon emissions. Besides, the
large number of flights also causes serious air pollution. From a cultural perspective, tourism is a
significant factor causing cultural loss in local communities. Most tourists have a lifestyle very
different from that of the locals. This can lead to cultural changes in localities. For example,
since tourism developed in Sapa, local people have given up many beautiful cultural customs
such as holding traditional weddings or giving up handicrafts.
In conclusion, while tourism is no doubt good for local communities, its potential risks should
not be ignored.
2. CHẢY MÁU CHẤT XÁM – BRAIN DRAIN – NGUYÊN NHÂN, GIẢI PHÁP
It is widely believed that brain drain has become a heated debate in our society in recent years. In
this essay, some of the main causes of this problem will be discussed before the most important
solutions are drawn.
There are several reasons why brain drain is becoming more and more serious in countries,
especially poor countries. Salary is the most important factor. Nowadays, many people want to
settle in developed countries where the salary conditions are much higher than in their home
country. For example, America is the richest country in the world and a lot of knowledgeable
people like doctors, engineers and professors want to work there. Another contributing factor to
VSTEP SV - 0346808595
this problem is the lack of infrastructure in developing countries. Because highly educated
people do not have the environment to develop their field of study and research in their own
country, they must continue to live and work in developed countries where there are machines,
technology relevant to their field.
Brain drain is serious, but there are several solutions to this problem. First, poor countries should
raise the love of their homeland so that high-quality workers can return to serve their country. In
addition, these countries should have policies that prioritize wages for key occupations such as
doctors, engineers, etc. Second, governments in developing countries should focus on investing
in infrastructure related to the fields that their international students are studying. Therefore,
these students after completing studies abroad can return to continue their homeland to work in
their fields.
In conclusion, the brain drain is mainly caused by low salaries and lack of infrastructure in poor
countries and it can be solved by government investment in the two factors.
3. TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS: NGUYÊN NHÂN, GIẢI PHÁP
It is believed that traffic accidents have become a heated debate in our society in recent years. In
this essay, some of the main causes of this problem will be discussed before the most important
solutions are drawn.
There are a few reasons why the number of traffic accidents is increasing. People's awareness is
the most important factor. Nowadays, many people are careless and do not pay attention to
traffic rules. In many cases, many people still drink alcohol and use stimulants when
participating in traffic. This leads to loss of self-control and is the cause of many serious traffic
accidents, especially during holidays. Another contributing factor to this problem is the lack of
infrastructure. Many cities have substandard roads, which directly affects the increase in traffic
accidents.
Traffic accidents are serious, but there are a few solutions to this problem. First, the government
should take measures to raise people's awareness of traffic laws. In addition, traffic violations
should be strictly punished. The policy of prohibiting drinking alcohol while participating in
traffic in Vietnam is a typical example. Immediately after this policy was applied, the number of
traffic accidents and deaths decreased significantly. Second, the government should focus on
investing in transport-related infrastructure such as roads, signs, etc. Obviously, better and wider
roads will reduce the number of traffic accidents.
In conclusion, the rise of traffic accidents are mainly caused by people's poor awareness and lack
of infrastructure and this problem can be solved by raising public awareness and government
investment in these two factors.
4. SKYTRAINS - DISCUSS
VSTEP SV - 0346808595
It is widely believed that skytrains have become a heated debate in our society in recent years.
While some people think that this mode of transportation has many advantages, others argue that
it may cause more pain than gain. Personally, I can understand the two opposing points of view;
I am both fascinated by the development of skytrains in big cities and apprehensive about its
possible negative effects.
On the one hand, skytrains should bring some obvious benefits. First, skytrains are clearly able to
save people's travel time. Because they are designed on high, not sharing the road with other
means of transport, people traveling by skytrains can easily avoid traffic jams, which other
people often encounter. Second, skytrains can improve the health of people traveling in big
cities. It is true that the air above is fresher than it is on the ground. Therefore, people traveling
by this type of vehicle are less likely to suffer from respiratory diseases such as pneumonia or
lung cancer.
On the other hand, I share the concerns of people who believe that skytrains have some
disadvantages. From an economic point of view, building private overhead lines for skytrains is
extremely expensive. It cannot be denied that the cost of building a road for skytrains along with
the cost of site clearance will be many times higher than that of building conventional roads.
From a social point of view, the safety of skytrains is a big concern. Because skytrains have
never been operated in Vietnam before, many people are worried about the potential accidents
that skytrains can cause.
In conclusion, while skytrains are no doubt good for our society, their potential risks should not
be ignored.
5. CHILDREN’S OBESITY – NGUYÊN NHÂN, GIẢI PHÁP
It is widely believed that children’s obesity has become a heated debate in our society in recent
years. In this essay, some of the main causes of children's obesity will be discussed before the
most important solutions are drawn.
There are some reasons why children's obesity is increasing. Fast food is the most significant
factor. Nowadays, many children are obsessed with readily available and convenient foods like
pizza, KFC, burger and coke. These foods contain a lot of energy which makes children
overweight easily. For example, the US has the most fast food restaurants in the world and it has
the largest number of overweight children. Another contributing factor to children's obesity is the
lack of exercise. It is true that children are too dependent on technology such as smartphones,
TVs, laptops... and they can spend many hours with these devices, instead of playing physical
games like soccer or swimming. This bad habit will make children unable to burn excess energy
and very easily become overweight.
Children's obesity is serious, but there are several solutions to this problem. First, the
government should take measures to ban the sale of fast food to children. If this happens,
children will have the opportunity to eat healthier foods, and thus children's obesity will
decrease. Second, the government should focus on investing in children's entertainment
VSTEP SV - 0346808595
infrastructure such as parks and play areas. When there is more space to play outside, children
will be less dependent on technology devices and will be more active.
In conclusion, children's obesity is mainly caused by fast food and lack of exercise and it can be
solved by banning fast food for children and government investment in entertainment
infrastructure for children.
6. CABLE CARS - DISCUSS
It is widely believed that the cable cars have become a heated debate in our society in recent
years. While some people say cable cars will boost tourism, others argue that they may cause
more pain than gain. Personally, I can understand the two opposing points of view; I am both
fascinated by the appearance of cable cars in tourist areas and worried about its potential
negative effects.
On the one hand, cable cars should bring some obvious benefits. First, cable cars are clearly able
to improve the local tourist image. It is true that they are a symbol of the modernity and
professionalism of the service industry. Therefore, they can help attract high-income tourists,
even foreign tourists, to the local area to experience. Second, cable cars make traveling faster and
easier. Because they are designed with a separate route, this mode of transportation can help
people avoid the traffic jams that other vehicles on traditional roads often encounter.
On the other hand, I share the concerns of people who believe that cable cars have certain
disadvantages. From an economic point of view, the construction of elevated routes for cable
cars is extremely expensive. It is undeniable that the construction cost for a cable car route will
be many times higher than the cost of building traditional roads. From a social point of view, the
safety of cable cars is a major concern. Because they have rarely been operated in Vietnam
before, many people worry about the potential accidents that cable cars can cause.
In conclusion, while the cable cars are no doubt good for tourism, their potential risks should not
be ignored.
7. ONLINE SHOPPING – DISCUSS
It is widely believed that online shopping has become a heated debate in our society in recent
years. While some people say that online shopping has some advantages, others argue that this
type of shopping may cause more pain than gain. Personally I can understand the two opposing
points of view; I am both fascinated by online shopping and apprehensive about its possible
negative effects.
On one hand, online shopping should bring several obvious benefits. First, this trend is clearly
able to help store owners and buyers save costs. Instead of spending a lot of money on high-
priced store rentals, online shop owners can use their own homes to sell goods. This reduces
product prices and consumers do not have to spend too much money to buy those products
anymore. Second, online shopping can be a factor to reduce traffic congestion. When people can
just stay at home and buy goods, they do not have to go out. This reduces the number of vehicles
on the roads. Hanoi is a typical example. After online shopping websites such as shoppe and
VSTEP SV - 0346808595
lazada become operational, the problem of traffic congestion during rush hours has become less
serious.
On the other hand, I share the concerns of people who believe that online shopping has certain
disadvantages. From a psychological perspective, online shopping creates a feeling of insecurity
for shoppers about product quality. Because they cannot directly experience the products like at
traditional stores, shoppers may purchase poor quality or unsafe products. For example, buyers
can experience trying products in street stores, but they cannot do that through online shopping.
From a social perspective, this way of shopping can cause scams. When buying online, it is very
difficult to check the authenticity of the transaction. Both buyers and sellers can be victims of
online scams.
In conclusion, while online shopping is no doubt good for our society, its potential risks should
not be ignored.
8. CHANGE JOBS – DISCUCSS
It is widely believed that changing jobs among young people has become a hot debate in our
society in recent years. While some people say that changing jobs has some advantages, others
argue that it may cause more pain than gain. Personally I can understand the two opposing points
of view; I am both fascinated by this trend and apprehensive about its possible negative effects.
On the one hand, changing jobs should bring some obvious benefits. First, changing jobs is
clearly able to help young people improve their new skills. When working in different
companies, they will have the opportunity to try in many fields, thereby learning a lot of new
knowledge, which is useful for their future career. Second, changing work can help young people
find jobs with higher salaries. It is true that many companies pay employees differently.
Therefore, young people can find a job with better income by moving to a new company.
On the other hand, I share the concerns of people who believe that changing jobs has several
certain disadvantages. From an economic point of view, changing jobs can make young people
lose their source of income. When they stop working at the old company, this means that they do
not have a monthly salary. If they cannot find an alternative job soon, this can become a financial
burden for their family. From a social point of view, changing jobs can cause instability in the
social security system. When this phenomenon is common, many people will become
unemployed and have no income, which can cause social unrest such as theft and robbery.
In conclusion, while changing jobs is no doubt good for the young, its potential risks should not
be ignored.
It is widely believed that Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a heated debate in our society in
recent years. While some people say that AI has some advantages, others argue that it may cause
more pain than gain. Personally I can understand the two opposing points of view; I am both
fascinated by AI and apprehensive about its possible negative effects.
VSTEP SV - 0346808595
On the one hand, AI should bring some obvious benefits. First, AI is clearly able to help people
maximize work efficiency. Because it is pre-programmed, AI can do a lot of tasks without
making any mistakes. Chat gpt is a typical example. Due to the integration of AI into the code,
this app can handle questions like a normal person with surprisingly fast operations. Second, AI
can help companies save a large part of human resources costs. Because AI can handle many
tasks at the same time, companies will not need to hire too many employees, thereby saving huge
monthly salaries for them.
On the other hand, I share the concerns of people who believe that AI has certain disadvantages.
From an economic perspective, many people will lose their jobs and have no income when AI is
widely applied. It is true that AI can help companies reduce staffing. However, this raises the
problem that companies will no longer need their workers. From a societal perspective, the safety
of AI is a major worry. Because AI has rarely been applied before, many people worry about the
drawbacks that AI brings, especially AI can learn to control humans. The movie The Terminator
gives us a clear view of this statement. When AI integrates with robots and they know how to
fight humans, humanity will likely be destroyed immediately
In conclusion, while AI is no doubt good for our society, its potential risks should not be ignored.
It is widely believed that homeschooling has become a heated debate in our society in recent
years. While some people say that homeschooling has some advantages, others argue that it may
cause more pain than gain. Personally I can understand the two opposing points of view; I am
both fascinated by this educational method and apprehensive about its possible negative effects.
On the one hand, homeschooling should bring some obvious benefits. First, this trend is clearly
able to save costs for families. When children do not go to school, parents do not have to pay
monthly tuition for their children. Therefore, this financial resource can be used to improve the
quality of life for children and give them the opportunity to have more meaningful activities such
as travel, sports, etc. Second, thanks to homeschooling, parents can flexibly adjust the teaching
program to suit their children. It is true that each child's perception is different. If they study in
the same class as in schools, teachers will not closely monitor each child. When studying at
home, their parents will have their own lesson plan, thereby making it easier for that child to
progress. Thomas Edison is a typical example. After being taught at home by his mother, he
became an outstanding scientist in the world.
On the other hand, I share the concerns of people who believe that homeschooling has some
disadvantages. From an educational perspective, this type of education can cause children to be
underdeveloped compared to their peers. Parents, no matter how good they are, cannot compare
to school teachers in terms of knowledge and pedagogical skills. Teachers who are trained and
have complete lesson plans will be the best way to teach knowledge to children. From a
psychological perspective, homeschooling can make children live in isolation and separate
themselves from the outside world. Because they cannot meet friends, they will feel lonely and
sometimes have wrong thoughts about life. They can even suffer from mental disorders when
they are too dependent on their parents.
VSTEP SV - 0346808595
In conclusion, while homeschooling is no doubt good for children, its potential risks should not
be ignored.
On the one hand, green energy should bring several obvious benefits. First, green energy is
clearly able to protect the environment. It is true that countries can significantly reduce fossil
energy sources if they use organic energy sources. This can reduce CO2 emissions and global
warming. Second, green energy can create a lot of jobs, especially in rural areas. Farmers can
work for green energy factories in their own hometowns. Besides, selling organic products to the
government also helps farmers earn more daily income.
On the other hand, I share the concerns of people who think green energy has certain
disadvantages. From an economic perspective, building green energy plants is very expensive.
This cost is many times more expensive than building traditional energy plants. From a social
perspective, the operation of green energy plants is often unstable due to their reliance on organic
products. Besides, the efficiency of green energy is also very low compared to traditional energy
sources. Vietnam is a typical example. Although many wind power plants have been built,
VSTEP SV - 0346808595
Vietnam still experiences frequent electricity shortages and still has to depend on hydroelectric
plants.
In conclusion, while green energy is no doubt good for society, its potential risks should not be
ignored.
18. GOVERNMENT’S INVESTMENT IN ARTS – PARTLY AGREE
Some people say that The government's investment in arts, music and theatre is a waste of
money and Governments should invest these funds in public services instead, while others argue
that these entertainment areas should be increasingly invested.
To what extent do you agree with this statement?
Answer:
It is widely believed that the government's investment in arts, music and theatre has become a
heated debate in our society in recent years. Some people say that this investment is a waste of
money and the government should increase focus on public services. In my opinion, I partly
agree with the statement for the following reasons.
On the one hand, government investment in the arts should bring some obvious benefits. First,
this policy is clearly able to improve people's quality of life. After a tiring working period,
people really need to enjoy art or music for entertainment. Art is the best way to help people
restore their mental health, thereby improving work efficiency. Second, investment in arts, music
and theater is a way to promote the country's culture. When art develops, more tourists will learn
about the country's culture. This makes the country's image widely spread around the world.
Korea is a typical example. Due to strong government’s investments in the arts, bands like BTS
or Blackpink are now famous all over the world.
On the other hand, I share the concerns of people who believe that the government’s investment
in the arts has certain disadvantages. From a social perspective, this policy is costly. The amount
of money the government has to pay for promoting the arts and building theatres is sometimes
huge and it should be used for essential services such as education, health care, and
transportation. From a social perspective, investing too much in the arts can cause an imbalance
in the professions. Young people believe that just becoming famous is enough to be successful.
Therefore, they will only focus on developing their art to become artists without wanting to
become other professions such as doctors or teachers.
In conclusion, while the government's investment in arts, music and theatre is no doubt good for
our society, its potential risks should not be ignored.
It is widely believed that the issue of children playing computer games has become a heated
debate in our society in recent years. While some people say that playing computer games has
some advantages for children, others argue that this habit may cause more pain than gain.
Personally I can understand the two opposing points of view; I am both fascinated by this issue
and apprehensive about its possible negative effects.
On the one hand, playing computer games should bring some obvious benefits. First, this habit is
clearly able to help children entertain themselves effectively. After many hours of stressful
studying at school, children really need a space to relax. It is true that playing games is the most
effective way to help them forget their fatigue and recover, which makes children's spirits
improve better. Second, playing computer games helps children develop their thinking. When
having to handle situations in the game, children will practice reflexes, situation assessment and
the ability to make quick decisions. Facts have shown that children who often play computer
games have much higher IQs than regular children.
On the other hand, I share the concerns of people who believe that playing computer games has
certain disadvantages. From a health perspective, playing too many computer games can make
children suffer serious diseases. Obviously, when children focus on playing games, they will not
have much time for physical activities. Therefore, children are very susceptible to cardiovascular
VSTEP SV - 0346808595
diseases or obesity. Besides, using computers for a long time also causes eye diseases for
children. From a social perspective, children are prone to violence when they play too many
computer games. To attract and increase user experience, many games are designed around the
theme of killing with images such as knives, guns, etc. This causes children to lose control of
themselves and sometimes do violent activities like in games.
In conclusion, while computer games are no doubt good for children, their potential risks should
not be ignored
21. OVERPOPULATION – NGUYÊN NHÂN, HỆ QUẢ
It is widely believed that overpopulation has become a heated debate in our society in recent
years. In this essay, some of the main causes of this problem will be discussed before the most
important consequneces are drawn.
There are several reasons why overpopulation is increasing. People's poor awareness of fertility
issues is the most important factor. Nowadays, there are many couples who have too many
children without planning for their children's upbringing. Asian families even have the desire to
have a son, so they are very likely to have more children if their first children are girls. China is a
typical example. The ideology of giving priority to sons in families has caused this country to
grow out of control and is currently the most populous country in the world. Another
contributing factor to overpopulation is government mismanagement. The lack of propaganda to
people about the harmful effects of population explosion causes people to continue giving birth
out of control. In addition, measures to handle births that exceed the plan are still light and not
enough to prevent families from violating the law.
The population explosion brings some huge consequences. First, this phenomenon will lead to
serious environmental pollution. When too many people live together, the amount of waste
generated every day is extremely large, causing water pollution. Besides, the overpopulation is
the cause of large energy consumption, which causes CO2 emissions and greatly affects the air.
Second, people's quality of life will be threatened if population explosion is not controlled.
Having too many people makes it difficult to find work, which leads to a large number of
workers becoming unemployed. Moreover, other living conditions such as healthcare, education
and entertainment are also not enough to satisfy so many people.
In conclusion, overpopulation is mainly caused by people's poor awareness and government's
weak management and it can lead to environmental pollution and people's reduced quality of life.
On the one hand, fast food should bring some obvious benefits. First, this type of food is clearly
able to bring convenience to everyone. Because fast food is ready- to-eat and easy to take, it is
VSTEP SV - 0346808595
the best choice for busy people like office workers and students. For example, instead of
spending hours preparing meals at home, office workers can stop by a fast food restaurant and
pick up any dish they like in minutes. Second, fast food can help people save money. lt is true
that the cost to cook a meal at home or at a restaurant is usually more expensive than a fast food
meal.
On the other hand, I share the concerns of people who believe that fast food has certain
disadvantages and I think the government should take measures to limit fast food. From a
medical point of view, fast food can cause dangerous diseases like obesity or heart disease. Due
to a lot of calories, fast food easily makes people overweight and this is even more serious if
people are too dependent on it. From a social point of view, fast food can even cause more pain
than gain. lt is undeniable that fast food and the diseases associated with it can be a huge burden
on the health care system.
In conclusion, while fast food is no doubt good for many people, its potential risks should not be
ignored.
On the one hand, there are undoubtedly a lot of advantages to this situation. Above all, being a
part of a small family fosters independence among its members. Even though everyone is
preoccupied with their jobs, they will take the initiative to take care of household chores like
organizing their rooms to free up time for cleaning and preparing meals in advance of cooking.
In addition, disagreements will also be easier to start in a large family because different members
have varied habits, viewpoints, and interests. As a result, miscommunications or little disputes
will inevitably arise.
On the other hand, we must acknowledge that there are certain unanticipated consequences of
being raised in a two-generation home. In particular, those who live in solidarity are more prone
to experience loneliness, which may be related to their inability to confide in others. People who
are unable to express their ideas for extended periods of time sometimes develop psychological
problems including autism and depression. Furthermore, grandparents cannot help spouses in
two-generation families with the upbringing of their children. For example, when the kids are ill,
they have to miss work in order to care for their babies. As a result, their revenue declines.
VSTEP SV - 0346808595
In conclusion, although living in a small family has a mixed impact, I strongly believe that the
upside it offers overshadows the downside. What we need to do is to find ways to minimize its
cons such as spending more time sharing with family members.
In recent years, equal partnership in marriage has become a heated debate in our
society. A significant portion of the population has a strong belief that a husband’s
status is equally as high as his wife's and vice versa. In my humble opinion, I partly
agree with this idea and this essay will discuss several reasons in favor of my
perspectives.
First and foremost, people should recognize that having equal partnership is ideal
for every family. A very important point to consider is that this is a key factor to a
happier marriage. This means equal partnership can foster closeness between
husband and wife, resulting in a stronger and happier marriage. Another point I
want to make is that equal family status between husbands and wifes lays the
foundation for their children’s healthy development. When parents build a
balanced partnership between them, they will hardly ever argue and therefore their
child will grow up never seeing their parents having conflicts. According to recent
studies, 8 out of 10 children said that they liked it better when their mother and
father have equal power within their family.
On the other hand, I respectfully wish to express my dissent with regard to the
concept of equal partnership. In fact, I have this opinion because a balanced
partnership complicates the decision-making process for married couples. This is
because there is no room for doubt that when a mother’s opinion is as respected as
a father’s, they will find it much harder to come to a conclusion when making
decisions. Another noteworthy point to consider is the financial problems. This is
due to the fact that equal partnership may involve equal financial contributions,
VSTEP SV - 0346808595
which could create tension if one partner earns significantly more or if there are
differences in financial priorities or spending habits. As a matter of fact, 70% of
married men earn more than their beloved wife. Therefore, financial-related
problems have a very high likelihood of happening.
