Abstract
Teaching plays a crucial role in modern day and age, teaching is evolving at an
exponential rate and it is necessary for educational institutes to implement new teaching
and learning methods for better teamwork among students. This demands a shift in
learning techniques from lecture based learning to something modern which satisfies the
needs and wants of the current generation.

Developing new and innovative ways to encourage teamwork is important.

The process of teaching needs to be dynamic and adaptable to the changing nature of
society. New trends in pedagogy are necessary because they will assist educators in
selecting new teaching methods that match different learning preferences, while
cultivating critical thinking abilities, and boosting students’ involvement in the learning
process. Furthermore, adoption of new pedagogies helps educators take advantage of
technology advancements and research breakthroughs thus enriching education as well as
equipping students with tools for succeeding in an increasingly intricate and
fast-transforming global environment. The ability to adjust and improve teaching
strategies on a continuous basis will enable teachers to make learners capable of thriving
in the 21st Century.

Introduction

In today's ever-changing educational environment, encouraging students to work well as a

team is essential to developing their collaborative abilities and promoting academic
achievement. As educators work to adopt new pedagogical approaches, it is more
important than ever to use creative team-based learning strategies. Education institutions
can accelerate the adoption of new teaching and learning strategies to meet the needs of
the modern day by utilising the creativity and collective intelligence of their student body.

With an emphasis on advancing cutting-edge pedagogical approaches, we examine six

creative ways to promote teamwork in educational settings. These methods, which range
from utilising technology to fostering multidisciplinary cooperation, seek to enable
students to take an active role in their education while developing competencies necessary
for the workforce of the twenty-first century.

We visited Somaiya Vidyavihar which is situated in Vidyavihar Mumbai, it was

established in the year 1959 and offers courses from a variety of streams. Its campus is
approximately 60 acres and the entire campus is owned and operated by the Somaiya
Trust.
Faculty
Mr Ashutosh Sharma ( Somaiya Centre for Experiential Learning)

Teamwork :

Mr Ashutosh claimed that he uses teamwork quite often by breaking the students into
groups and learning together in the form of group learning. His main role in Somaiya is to
teach students through experience, working together as a group brings up the teamwork
aspect. He says that instead of giving homework, it is important to divide students into
groups so that they realise the difference between working alone and together as a team.
Group learning is an important aspect and life skill which is useful for them after they
start working.

Innovative Ideas for Teaching :

He says that a scoring system is necessary to bring competitiveness among students so

that they all work together and have a sense of collective responsibility. When we asked
him about the changes that are needed in the way teaching is done today he said that
school activities like homeworks, lectures and assignment are done in isolation but these
activities should be integrated to help students catch up, making students do their projects
as a classroom activity will help in reducing the teachers workload as well as brings up
student participation instead of them being a passive listener.

Integration of all activities is important, while teaching instead of explaining things it

should focus more on framing questions which trigger the curiosities and thinking of the
students. He says that instead of spending his creativity in coming up with best
explanations for the class, he will come up with questions in which they are thinking not
alone but as a group to bring up teamwork and maximum learning among the class.
Faculty
Mrs Pradnya Seth ( HOD : Computer Science)

Mrs Ruchi Shah ( Teacher : English )

We conducted a group interview here from 2 teachers who have been teaching in Somaiya
School for the past 10+ years.

Teamwork :

When we asked them how often they use teamwork in classrooms they said that it is used
regularly, catering to an individual is hard because they have their own way of thinking
and learning but when it comes to a team you have more opinions. If there are any weaker
students within the group, the other members within the group can help him/her overcome
the fear and doubts. They consider the relationship between a student and teacher special
and allow the students to walk up to them anytime for any queries. They also talk about
employing 21st century skills already and being up to date with any new changes in the
field.

Strategies Used For Teaching :

Mrs Ruchi Shah talked about using collaborative learning which involves using a
technique called literature circle. This process involves giving roles to different students
while reading like someone could be a vocabulary finder, one can be an artful artist who
draws a scene based on the given topic, summarizer and passage finder.

While doing recap they use a technique where they divide the students and give them a
question, both the students then write their answers and then exchange them to summarise
the answer while adding points of both the groups.

A technique during the end of the lesson called exit ticket is used in which students are
given exit tickets on a 3,2,1 formula.

3: 3 Things which you learned

2: 2 Things that you liked

1: 1 Thing you want to learn

Palak Kadam ( Student at Somaiya Vidyavihar )

Their opinions regarding Teamwork :

Students think that it gets less burdensome and stressful where there are members in a
team as work gets divided by them .

When more students exist in a group , there is a possibility of conflict in interest , mindset
and opinions . And sometimes few of the members are the ones who really work harder
while others get something by doing simply nothing.

Techniques or Suggestion that would improve teamwork experience were choosing

teammates as per their wishes instead of following roll number wise.

Advice given by the students for better teamwork to their juniors is choosing their team
members carefully and contributing to the project assigned to them .

variety of engineering and technology courses with amazing infrastructure.
Faculty
Ahmer Usmani ( Assistant Professor)

Mr Ahmer Usmani has been teaching in this school for the past three years and overall
with a total teaching experience of almost nine and a half years. He specialises in subjects
like computer mathematics, computer building teams, and programming entry.

Teamwork :

Dealing with teamwork in the classroom is a core principle in his curriculum. He

emphasises teamwork because it is so important for students who will eventually work in
companies or industries where teamwork is important. He incorporates team learning
based on our experience to prepare students for their future careers.

When we asked him how effective he believed teamwork is as a learning experience for
students, he stated that group work is very important because it teaches students skills
such as critical thinking and collaboration, which are very important in the professional
world. Many interviews also focus on a candidate’s ability to work well in a team setting,
making teamwork an important part of the student learning experience.
Faculty
Naufil Kazi ( Assistant Professor) :

Mr Naufil Kazi has been in the teaching industry for the past 3 years and is currently
pursuing Mtech.

Teamwork :

He emphasises the significance of incremental learning and guiding children to identify

and solve problems together. He frequently assigns students to role-based teams and
incorporates games that promote self-reliance. Moreover, he suggests that the educational
approach in India should lean towards practicality rather than a step-by-step method,
considering that children may require more time to grasp certain subjects.

It is essential to introduce more practical elements to spark children's interest in learning

the subject matter.

Innovative Techniques :

He presented various innovative methods for teaching and learning, such as introducing
specific topics to children or providing guidelines on how to approach them. He also
advocates for the use of sandboxes or sandboxing software applications to educate
students about software and its applications. Technology plays a crucial role in aiding
students in their studies and skill acquisition. These points highlight the importance of
teamwork and creative teaching approaches needed in the classroom.

Teamwork:

During the discussion with Dr. Shah, she highlighted the importance of teamwork among
students by stressing on the importance of group projects. Additionally, She went deeper
into managing conflicts within teams and how she could assess individual contributions to
project outcomes thereby allowing fair grading based on active participation.

Innovative Techniques :

Her suggestion was that learners should be taught collaborative group work through
curricula that actively involve students in group activities. Such a tactic according to her
would ultimately be advantageous for their development and learning. Assessment of
individual contributions to project outcomes based on active participation.
Faculty

Teamwork & Innovative Techniques :

When we asked her during the interview how often team-based activities are included in
the curriculum, she said that they happen once a week, especially when it comes to course
drafting and pleading. Students must work together to conduct legal research and write
legal papers for these assignments.

She underlined how cooperation improves learning results by utilising a variety of

viewpoints and approaches to problem-solving. In terms of evaluation, she places a high
value on student initiative and engagement and rewards their active participation. Many
recommendations for enhancing group activities to promote better learning and
engagement were made for how to improve teamwork practices in educational
institutions.

In her closing remarks, she emphasised the need for teamwork, the need to recognise each
person's skills and shortcomings and combine them to create a cohesive group dynamic.
Student
Tejas Kokcha ( BBA SY)

Teamwork Experience : Working with people who know you is important, he quoted
“Mai Tumhe Janta Bhi Nahi Pehchanta Bhi Hu'' which tries to explain the point that
working with buddies has always been great for him instead of groups divided on the
basis of roll numbers. Issues which Tejas faced while working as a team is accountability
and lack of initiative, he emphasises on keeping an internal deadline a few days before the
submission of the project to push others.

It is important to be a leader, he preferred the autocratic type of leadership over laissez

faire and narcissistic.

Effective Teamwork Techniques : Tejas talks about his project research for which he
visited Mukund Sir for understanding the data, he informed his group about visiting sir
which brought up initiative and interest among the members who were initially not
interested in the project. It is important to involve your team members in the project.

Teaching Techniques : Sub Categorisation of the project is important, while group

presentations teachers should focus more on individual marking by asking questions on
the topic based on what they have done. It is important for teachers to know how much
work an individual has done and his contribution to the project.

Advice for Juniors : Taking initiative is the priority, even if you don’t like the topic of
your project, try taking help from the members and distribute work between all projects
accordingly.
CONCLUSION
In conclusion , We learned a lot about the significance of teamwork implemented by
group learning activities. It fosters an environment where students not only learn from the
teacher but also from each other, honing essential life skills that are applicable beyond the
classroom.

It prioritises strong student-teacher relationships and encourages open communication.

Plus, they focus on modern skills and stay updated in their field.

With the technique of teamwork , more stressful tasks are divided, but conflicts may arise
with differing opinions. Students should choose their teammates carefully to enhance the
productivity of the team.
