Create in 2D, family and friends

What you will need:

A4 and A3 drawing paper
Pencil and chalk
Black wax crayons or oil pastels
Primary colour paints (red, yellow and blue) – if you do not have paint, replace it with food colouring which is
cheaper.
Paint brush – if you do not have paintbrushes use old face clothes cut into small strips.
Containers of clean water
A palette (paint mixing plate) or a 2 litre ice-cream tub lid

We are going to learn how to draw a body image in movement. But first, let’s look at the basics:
How to draw a body image:

Preparation:

The human body consists of many different oval shapes.

Use the A4 paper and a pencil. Fill the paper with different sized ovals. You must draw these ovals “free hand”
meaning not that you do not use something to help you draw the shape, e.g. a stencil. You can draw over the
oval 2 to 3 times to get the perfect shaped oval. Complete this action till your page is full.

Practice round: Drawing a human image is easy. Follow these steps.

You can create movement and actions by rearranging the position of the ovals.

So now you can draw an image of a body in action.

Creating in 2D a picture of family and friends

Step 1 – Paper preparation

Divide the A3 page into 4 rectangles with chalk. DON’T USE PENCIL OR PEN

yellow blue red yellow

Step 2 – Painting the background

Paint the blocks with primary colours. Overlap the colours next to each other to create secondary colours.
Wait until your picture is dry.

Step 3 - Creating contrast

Draw the silhouette images of 4 friends and / or family in the rectangles with the black oil pastels or wax
crayons. Remember the human figures must be moving.

Step 4 – Finishing touches

Draw a suitable frame around the A3 paper. Prepare your picture for exhibition (presentation).

Step 5 - Exhibition

Show your picture to the class/ group. Explain briefly who is in your artwork and what they are doing.
