Introductory Concept
Water is a renewable resource because of the water cycle. It is the
continuous movement of water in the surface of the earth.
Water cycle is important because it transforms salty water into fresh water
during precipitation process. Let us find out how water cycle occurs and why it is
important to us.

Abstraction
Based on the activity, answer the following questions:
1. Where does water come as shown in the diagram?
2. What are the processes involved in the water cycle?
3. What is the role of the sun in the water cycle?
4. How animals and humans participate in the water cycle?
5. Why do you think water cycle important?
Remember
You may think that every drop of rain that falls from the sky, or each glass
of water that you drink, is brand new, but it has always been here and is a part of
the water cycle.
Water cycle is a continuous process of changing liquid water into water vapor
when heated and back to liquid when cooled.
The sun plays a major role in the water cycle. It heats up the bodies of water
covering the earth. When bodies of water are heated, evaporation occurs.
Evaporation is the change of liquid to water vapor. Water particles are released
from the leaves of plants through transpiration. Animals and humans give off
water particles when they perspire during respiration which evaporate in the
atmosphere in lesser amounts.
The water vapor condenses as it reaches the atmosphere and mixes with other
water vapor in the process called condensation. They then fall as precipitate like
rain, hail, and snow. Such process is called precipitation.
