• Answer any five (5) questions.
• Show all necessary working to earn full marks.

This paper consists of 4 printed pages.

1. (a) Use Laplace transforms to find the solution to the following initial [8]
value problem.

y ′′ − y = u(t − 1), y(0) = 1, y ′ (0) = 0

Note that u(t − 1) is a unit step function.


(b) Find the Laplace transforms of the following functions:
i. f (t) = t2 sin t [3]
ii. g(t) = cos (2t) cos (t) [2]
(c) Find the inverse Laplace transforms of the following functions:

2. (a) Find a power series solution to the given ordinary differential equa- [7]

(b) Find the particular solution to the following initial value problem. [7]

(c) Find a real general solution to the following system of first order [6]
linear differential equations.
