What is your inquiry question that interests you for further research? It should be a question that connects with
a purpose, passion or personalized area of interest for you. This is a question that you cannot just google an
answer for. Please see examples from your Capstone booklet.
My inquiry question is:

How can school apps be used to promote student engagement and motivation in the classroom?

Rationale/context: Detail your reasons for choosing this inquiry question. Explain WHY you are choosing to
investigate this topic as a major area of focus. How does this area of inquiry connect to your passion(s),
purpose? Why is it of personal interest to you?

this area of inquiry connects to my passion for inclusive education, my purpose of creating equitable
learning environments, and my personal interest in exploring the potential of technology to support learning.
I believe that by investigating this question, I can make a meaningful contribution to the field of educational
technology and help to ensure that all students have access to the tools and resources they need to
succeed.

Background: What background knowledge/connections/prior learning do you have in this area of inquiry?

I have some background knowledge and prior learning in the area of educational technology and app
development, which has prepared me for this project. I have taken several courses in educational
technology and have experience using various learning management systems and educational apps.

Career connections: What is your intended career area at this point in time? What connections does this
inquiry question have to your life, academic and/ or career goals?

My intended career area is programming, and this inquiry question has several connections to my life,
academic, and career goals. Firstly, as a programmer, I will have the opportunity to develop educational
apps and tools that can support learning for all students, including those with learning differences and
disabilities. By exploring this inquiry question, I can gain a deeper understanding of the accessibility and
0
inclusivity features that are needed in school apps, and how to design and implement these features
effectively.

Interdisciplinary and core competencies connections: What subject areas and core competencies will
be connected with your project? Outline and explain the connections.

Critical Thinking: My project will require critical thinking skills, as I will need to analyze user data and
feedback, and make informed decisions about how to improve the app. I will need to be able to evaluate
the strengths and weaknesses of different design choices and make strategic decisions about how to
prioritize features and functionality.

Capstone Presentation medium: select one or more project mediums you wish to use to present your
project. Outline and give details about how you will present your project once completed. You may use a
combination of mediums.
o Electronic portfolio: Prezi or PPT
o Physical portfolio
o Website
o imovie presentation
o YouTube channel

For my capstone project, I plan to create a website to present my school app. The
website will serve as an electronic portfolio that showcases the features, functionality,
and design of the app.

Description of my Capstone project. Specific Project Details of the Capstone Project: what will you
research, create, study, produce, solve, investigate? What product will be produced at the end of this
project for evaluation. Write a one-page description outlining your proposal.

Objective: The objective of this capstone project is to research, design, and develop a comprehensive
school application that meets the needs of students. The app will provide students with a personalized
dashboard that displays their class schedules, homework assignments, attendance, grades, and
communication tools, making it easier for them to manage their academic life.
Research: The research phase of this project will involve a thorough analysis of existing school
applications, their features, strengths, and weaknesses. The research will also include a survey of students
to understand their needs, preferences, and pain points in managing their academic life. The research
findings will inform the design and development of the School Connect app.
Design: The design phase of this project will involve creating wireframes, mockups, and prototypes of the
School Connect app. The design will focus on creating an intuitive and user-friendly interface that is easy
to navigate and provides quick access to the app's features. The design will also ensure that the app is
accessible to all students, including those with disabilities.
Development: The development phase of this project will involve building the School Connect app using
appropriate programming languages, frameworks, and tools. The app will be developed for both iOS and
Android platforms, ensuring that it is accessible to a wide range of students. The development process will
also include rigorous testing and quality assurance to ensure that the app is stable, secure, and performs

1
well.
Evaluation: The School Connect app will be evaluated based on its usability, functionality, and
effectiveness in meeting the needs of students. The evaluation will involve user testing, feedback, and
surveys to assess the app's strengths and weaknesses. The evaluation findings will be used to refine and
improve the app, ensuring that it meets the needs of students and provides them with a comprehensive
solution for managing their academic life.
Conclusion: The School Connect app is a comprehensive school application designed to meet the needs
of students. The app will provide students with a personalized dashboard that displays their class
schedules, homework assignments, attendance, grades, and communication tools, making it easier for
them to manage their academic life. The capstone project will involve research, design, development, and
evaluation of the School Connect app, ensuring that it is intuitive, user-friendly, and accessible to all
students.

Resources/ Technology/Skills: Make an assessment of the resources, technology and skills you will
need to be able to complete this project. What is your plan to be able to access/learn all of the resources
necessary to achieve completion of this project? Detail your plans.

Resources:
 A computer or laptop with sufficient processing power and memory to run development tools and
software.
 A reliable internet connection to access online resources, documentation, and communities.
 Access to a mobile device or emulator to test the application on different screen sizes and
resolutions.
Technology:
 I need a website that builds the application.
Skills:
 Knowledge of mobile app design principles and user experience (UX) best practices.
 Familiarity with version control systems, cloud storage services, and project management tools.
 Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
Plan:
 I will use my personal laptop to develop the application, which meets the minimum system
requirements for the development tools and software.
 I will use my home internet connection to access online resources, documentation, and
communities.
 I will practice problem-solving and debugging skills by working on small projects and seeking
feedback from the development community.

Mentors/Community Connections: What types of mentor(s)/community connections will you need to
help you complete your capstone project? How will your mentor(s) help you? What is your plan to access
the mentorship/community connections necessary for this project?

1. Mobile App Development Mentor: I will seek out a mentor who has experience in mobile app
development and can guide me through the development process. I will look for a mentor who has
experience in the technology stack I am using for my project. I plan to reach out to local tech
meetups, online developer communities, and alumni networks to find a mentor.
2. Education Mentor: I will also seek out a mentor who has experience in the education field and can
provide insights into the needs and preferences of students and teachers. I plan to reach out to
local schools, universities, and education departments to find a mentor.
3. User Experience Design Mentor: I will look for a mentor who has experience in user experience
design and can provide guidance on creating an intuitive and user-friendly interface for my app. I
plan to reach out to local design agencies, online design communities, and alumni networks to find
a mentor.

Project limitations: What are some project limitations and potential obstacles that you foresee that might
affect progress with your Capstone Project?

1. Limited technical skills: Since the project involves building a school application without coding,
there may be limitations to the customization and functionality of the app. The website builder
platform may also have limitations that cannot be overcome without coding.

Other considerations: List and detail any other related information/ considerations about your project
that you feel should be included in your project proposal.

References: Provide a literature review of 5-10 PEER REVIEWED ACADEMIC references: research,
videos, etc. that offer some preliminary research you have done for your project that shows you are able
to access the key information that you will need to be able to complete this project/work. Your list should
be written using correct APA formatting.
