This section contains 8 questions. The answer is a single digit integer ranging from 0 to 9 (both inclusive).
Marking scheme +4 for correct answer , 0 if not attempted and 0 in all other cases.
1. A large mass M and a small mass m hang at the two ends of string that passes through
a smooth tube as shown in fig. The mass m moves around in a circular path which lies
in a horizontal plane. The length of the string from the mass m to the top of the tube is
of length l and  is the angle, this length makes with the vertical, what should be the
frequency of rotation of the mass m so that M remains stationary if M 16kg,m  4kg,

  1m and g  2 m / s 2 .

2. In a continuous printing process, paper is drawn into the process at a constant speed v.

3. A table with smooth horizontal surface is placed in a cabin which moves in a circle of
a large radius R =100 m with   3 rad/s (see figure). A smooth pulley of small radius
is fastened to the table. Two masses m and 2m placed on the table are connected
through a string going over the pulley. Initially the masses are held by a person with
the strings along the outward radius and then the system is released from rest (with
respect to the cabin). Then the magnitude of the initial acceleration of the mass m as
seen from the cabin is n × 100(m/s2). Find n.

of which is fixed at the centre of a large circular platform. The platform is maintained
horizontal and rotated about its vertical axis of symmetry. The disc is placed on the
platform as shown. After how much time in seconds the disc is placed, will the cord
break? The maximum tensile force the cord can withstand is Tmax = 100 N, and
coefficient of kinetic friction between the disc and the platform is  k  0.1 .

Average speed of any one-way motion of the ball whether upwards or downwards can
be approximately taken as the average speed for the given interval without appreciably
sacrificing accuracy. Using this idea, you may find an integral or non-integral solution
for the number of collisions. If you find a non-integral solution, the number of
collision must be its integral part, because the fractional part corresponds to the last
incomplete trip.
