CNL-530 Topic 6: Sexual Development Worksheet

Directions: In the table below, list at least two aspects of sexual development that are relevant to

each stage of development. An example has been provided for you. Each life stage section

should be at least 50 words in length. Include a minimum of three scholarly sources in your

responses and an associated APA reference note for each source at the end of the worksheet.

Life Stage Sexual Development

1. Ultrasounds have shown evidence that male fetuses have erections

In Utero 2. Erections have also been noted in newborns a few hours old

(Lehmiller, 2017).

1. It is common for toddlers and infants to experience erections during

Infancy
2. Toddlers and infants also explore their bodies by touching their

genitals – in the same way they explore all other parts of their bodies,

underarm hair growth, and skin change tone and texture with some

Preadolescence
2. They develop sexual excitement behaviours as they seem to be in

integrated settings as they tend to to be attracted to the opposite sex

(Koch, 2020).

Adolescence 2. Boys also experience growth in facial hair, and there is a deepening of

their voices. Girls experience breast development and enlargement and

begin to experience menstruation (Shields et al., 2020).

Adulthood 1. In adulthood, people’s sexuallity is fully developeed with more

significant experiences and understanding of sexual fertility of their

partners as they attach emotionas and responsibility to adulthood

(Lehmiller, 2017).

2. They also establish sexual orientation, integrate love and sexuality,

forge intimate connections and make sexual commitments (Lehmiller,
