I. Para Kay B
Para Kay B is a Filipino Literature written by Ricardo aka “Ricky”
Lee and was published on The Writers Studio November 30, 2008, is a reflections
on love and romance a five different stories that only one has the probability to get
their happy ending. For Lee, "Para kay B" is a personal trip because it includes his
own story. Character balancing has a significant impact on the story's flow. Each
character has her own chapter and moment in the story. Each chapter has its own
set of circumstances. Some of the situations are rarely observed in society in a
normal setting.
II. Author’s Background

Ricardo Lee
Early Life
Born on March 19,1948 Lee grew up in Daet, Camarines
Norte, with his relatives. He barely saw his father on a few occasions after his
mother died when he was five years old. In the same location, he attended both
primary and senior school. Lee was supposed to sneak into movie theaters and
bury himself in books at the school library, ripping pages with striking imagery
away. He was a bright student who constantly placed first in his class from
elementary to high school. His prospective writing career got off to a good start
when he received his first national literary award for a short tale he wrote in high
school. He rushed away from home and caught a bus to Manila, driven by his
desire to achieve his aspirations. He wandered aimlessly.
Literary Career
Ricky Lee is a scriptwriter of the classic movies Himala, Moral, Anak
and has written 150 produced film scripts , five theatrical plays , many featured
articles, some short stories, one scriptwriting ,manual and novel. he is also the
author of the best selling scriptwriting manual called “Trip to Quiapo”. Earned
almost 50 trophies including the lifetime achievement award from Urian and gives
free scriptwriting workshop ever since 1982.
III. Author’s Purpose
he wrote para kay b along with his other two novels but he chose to publicize this
first to gain readers he chose this particular story this story was written to caution
and make people see the reality of our society right now and that happy endings
doesn’t always end up with living with the person you wanted but happy endings
depend on how you define your happiness and because ricky lee wants other
people can be someone who’s riding in MRT, someone who looks after someone
in the hospital, someone who’s making their child fall asleep and not only by his
fellow writers and those who study literature.
IV. Characters
Irene – a girl with unimaginable ability to remember things precisely, called weird
for having photographic memory. Love her past who promised marriage to her.
Jordan – an orphan teenager after his parents was killed. Most talked about being
son of an NPA. He had irene’s heart promised marriage to the young lady.
Mr’s Ignacio – married to the mayor of san idelfonso, produces fountain of saliva
Elena – the deceased mother of irene who lurked around her whenever she faces
a problem
Sandra- a girl who fell for a bad romance. Her brother fell in love with her worked
in hotel had three kids and married a man name ruben she believes that
everything should be fair
Lupe- the brother of Sandra who hoped to be a famous guitarist of a band

someday. Became a snatcher after he was dragged out of their house by their
father after their father caught them doing coitus.
Belinda- lupe and sandra’s offspring who had a serious mental illness, at the age
of eight she still had troubles and have no signs of speaking .
Erica- a girl from the world called maldiaga who doesn’t know anything about love
because of her old environment doesn’t talk and know a thing about love.
Suddenly found herself in a world full of love and tried to understand and learn
what love is. Tried falling in love with jake but couldn’t make it.
Jake- son of Mrs. Baylon who adopted erica. Always does the things his mother
doesn’t want him to do a playboy who became a changed man because of erica.
Mrs. Baylon – an old woman, the mother of jake who has a unique sophisticated
hairstyle and likes to pray for the urn of his husband together with her two
friends who where also widowed as well.
Ester- a closeted lesbian who’s in denial of her sexual identity. Fell in love with
Sara the maidservant of her late mother. Loves color yellow and likes everything
simple
AJ- the gay son of ester who became the way for ester and sara to meet again.
Loves to join gay beauty contest.
Bessie- a promiscuous woman. Sells things owned by peoples who had miserable
relationships or those who have been branded as Capital S. a girl who loves to
perform or be different kinds of people by acting because she wants to be an
actress someday. Became friend of lucas and fell in love with him because she
couldn’t seduce him.
Brigs- a basketball player and son of colonel moncayo. Punched lucas which
became the reason why he left the pad of Bessie.
Manang Belen- the one who helped and took care of lucas after he was punched.
An old fat woman who specializes in healing muscular aches and pains by using
massage. She killed her husband and was imprisoned in correctional for ten years.
Her offsprings are now situated in Australia so ever since lucas came to her life
she treated him as her real son.
Charlie- friend of lucas that he often share stories with and companion in drinking
liquor. His wife is in Canada. He’s an activist and once wrote stories that no longer
have a copy.
Lucas- the guy behind all of the 5 stories. He made all of those stories exclusively
for Bessie. A Japanese who suffers from severe acne and is ugly but somehow
managed to pull Bessie.
V. Setting
The first story's scenes take place in San Idelfonso and Manila, the second in a
warehouse and Manila, the third in Maldiaga and Manila, the fourth in Mercedes,
and the final story in Bessie's pad in Manila.
VI. CONFLICT/ PROBLEM AND SOLUTION

In the flashback of the story, Jordan is experiencing deep despair, agony, rage to
avenge for his parents death. Irene picked his curiosity and distracted Jordan from
all of those painful memories. Jordans’s dilemma was forgotten for awhile.
Another conflict is present in the next story which is Sandra who fell for her
brother. Ruben helped Sandra to move on and have better life. Lastly the sxth
part entitled the real story in the real story where all of the characters where
gathered and exchanged war of words as to who deserves the happy ending at
first they have their own wants and reasons but then later on decided that others
will fell for someone who doesn’t love them back and will love but wont learn
anything or wouldn’t love at all or would never fall in love ever we all have
different capacities and capabilities but all of us are the same in love because all
of us have the right to love someone who is right for us and that happy ending
depends on how you define your own happiness realizing things ended the
conflict that has existed with the characters.
VII. SUMMARY
The novel contains five stories which it says a quote of love that in five people
who will love the probability of someone getting their happy ending is only one
out of five. In the first story, Irene will be known as the girl who aspired to marry
Jordan when she grow up but Jordan left san idelfonso and never came back one
day irene met Jordan again in a hotel but he don’t remember her anymore they
had coitus and irene left with the thought of Jordan forgetting her which agitated
her extremely. In the second story, there is siblings which are Sandra and Lupe
and they’re inlove but one day they were found having coitus in the warehouse
their father dragged Lupe out and he moved to manila time passed Sandra
already had different boyfriend which is ruben one day while ruben was walking
in a dark place someone particularly Lupe snatched ruben’s phone which Sandra
called only to interact with lupe once again so they met and had another coitus in
a hotel after that Lupe was nowhere to be found again and ruben was back ready
to marry Sandra despite her bearing Lupe’s child. In the third story
