while effectively conveying their message. This article explores the importance
of effective public speaking as a means of communication and its implications
in personal and professional settings.
Key words: rhetoric, verbal communication, oratory, speech etiquette, public
speaking, the art of communication and the effectiveness of communication.

Effective verbal communication is a vital skill in today's fast-paced world.

Whether it's presenting ideas in a professional setting, giving an inspiring
speech, or engaging in meaningful conversations, the ability to convey
messages with clarity and impact is important. One aspect of verbal
communication that is extremely powerful is the art of public speaking. Public
speaking allows people to engage and influence an audience, share their
thoughts and ideas, and leave a lasting impression.
Mastering the art of public speaking is not just about delivering a well-
structured speech or performing well on stage; it goes beyond that. This
involves connecting with and engaging audiences, conveying messages
effectively, and instilling trust and confidence in listeners. It requires skill,
practice, and an understanding of the key elements that create persuasive and
effective verbal communication.
“ Public speaking is the process of communicating information, ideas or
opinions through oral presentation to an audience. They can occur in a variety
of situations, such as lectures, presentations, debates, speaking at conferences or
public speaking in politics. " (1)
Already from the school desk, students, speaking in front of their classmates,
adapt to new opportunities, revealing their potentials and getting rid of the fear
of the public, and then young talents also attract the attention of teachers who
are actively interested in revealing all abilities and talents. It is from now on that
a certain speech etiquette helps the student to interest the public. For example,
in Uzbekistan, the first day of school is celebrated in every school and this event
is being prepared in all educational institutions. A month before the celebration,
teachers invite those who want to be presenters and a whole month is allocated
for practice and teaching the correct use of a professional communicative
manner. That is, each word has its own stress and emphasis, which should be
paid attention to; moreover, this is good practice for the future young student,
since he will already learn to speak correctly and effectively attract attention.
“ Speech etiquette and rules of communication represent a system of norms of
verbal behavior and unchanging formulas for polite communications. Mastering
the etiquette of verbal communication helps to gain authority, creates trust and
respect. Mastering the canons of verbal etiquette and observing them
contributes to the feeling of being a confident person and not experiencing a
feeling of awkwardness and difficulties in communication. "(2)
By understanding and mastering the art of effective public speaking, individuals
gain a valuable tool that can open doors to numerous opportunities. This can
help them effectively present ideas, influence decisions, inspire change, and
connect with others on a deeper level. It also increases self-confidence,
improves leadership skills and allows people to become more persuasive and
influential communicators.
For example, there is a presentation of a new product dedicated to humanity to
improve everyday life, the first thing you need to know is the place where the
event will take place, visit the place in advance to inspect the lighting, acoustics
and cleanliness, as these will give an important atmosphere. The next aspect is
your appearance - how you look. This is important because large-scale meetings
have an important bearing not only on you, but also on the future relationship
with the company you represent, so you should stick to the classics for a formal
speech. This will not only give a pleasant appearance and a good impression,
but the speaker will also feel more confident since the promotion of the product
depends on his speech. However, looking good is one thing; you need to be able
to attract attention and interest the audience with your speech. Before the
presentation, you should rehearse your speech standing in front of the mirror so
you can see yourself from the outside, then don’t forget about mini cards in case
your thoughts are lost and you need to refresh them on the cards, just write
down only the key words, and not the entire text, after Avoid reading
information with your back to the public, this is a gross mistake, this will cause
dissatisfaction not only with yourself but also with negative impressions about
your company, so have more contact with the public and have a lively
conversation describing your product more and more.
«The key elements of public speaking are language, voice, gestures and visual
support. The speaker must use clear and understandable language, control vocal
intonation and volume, and use gestures and facial expressions to emphasize his
words.»
Key elements of effective public speaking include:
“Any performance, even if it involves improvisation, requires preparation.
Going out in public without the speaker understanding what he will be talking
about is practically doomed to failure.” (4)
1. Preparation. It is extremely important to carefully study and systematize the
content of the speech. The speaker should have a clear understanding of the
topic, present the main points, and collect supporting evidence or examples to
reinforce his message.
To avoid awkward situations that may later affect your fate and the position of
the enterprise, do not be lazy to repeat the speech material. If you don't know
the topic of the presentation, you will ruin the relationship between the
ministers. Which will lead to extremely difficult circumstances.
“ Consider the needs and expectations of your audience. Use language and
terminology that your target group understands. Consider their interests and
preferences to make your presentation more attractive and meaningful to them. "
(5)
2. Audience analysis. Understanding the audience's demographics, interests, and
knowledge levels is essential to tailoring speech to their needs. This allows the
speaker to use appropriate language, examples, and references that resonate
with the audience.
Before the start of the conference, you can ask the organizer and administrator
for an approximate list of visitors, which will definitely be your key way to
attract attention. As the examples show, specialists in their field deeply and
thoroughly study the type of activity of the visitor in order to further focus
attention and impress the listener.
3. Structure and organization. A well-structured speech has an introduction,
body and conclusion. It should have a clear beginning that grabs the audience's
attention, a coherent point that follows a logical sequence, and a memorable
ending that reinforces the main message.
Anyone who has ever attended a major event clearly remembers the beginning
of the interaction process and the end. This indicates that a well-prepared
speaker was able to correctly convey information to the audience through well-
constructed sentences and coherent meaning.
“ Don't be clever, don't try to seem very smart. The overall IQ in the audience
drops to average. The simpler the better. No, if it’s a thesis defense or a
scientific conference, you can use more terms. But this is rather an exception. »
(6)
4. Clarity and conciseness. The speaker must express his ideas clearly and
concisely. Using simple language, avoiding jargon and complex terms, and
writing sentences that are easy to understand will make your speech more
accessible and understandable to your audience.
The clearer the information/report, the more likely it is to interest the listener,
since almost more than half of those present are interested in leaving the
building quickly or they have unsettled matters, it is worth taking this into
account and creating the most comfortable atmosphere.
5. Visual aids. Supporting visual aids such as slides, graphs, or props can
improve audience comprehension and retention. These visuals should be simple,
relevant, and visually appealing, complementing the speaker's message without
overwhelming or distracting the audience.
Now is the age of modern technology, when we keep pace with progress, there
are projectors that help the listener visually imagine the benefits of the product.
They can not only show holograms, but also, using special editor sounds, set a
specific sound for the device, etc.
6. Authenticity. The speaker's authenticity and genuine passion for the topic are
essential to attracting an audience. Sharing personal stories, expressing emotion,
and showing enthusiasm can help you build a connection and make the speech
more interesting.
“ Dale Carnegie was a master storyteller. Everyone loves stories. » (7)
Before you begin your speech, interest the listener by telling a story that will be
essential to your subsequent presentation of thoughts. A story from personal
experience, so you will not only attract attention, but also earn trust, respect and
a warm attitude.
7. Adaptability. Adapting to unforeseen circumstances, such as technical
problems or changes in audience mood or interests, is critical. Flexibility and
adjusting delivery or content accordingly demonstrates professionalism and
ensures effective delivery.
There is no need to panic and worry that something has happened (if the lights
are turned off and the hall is in darkness), on the contrary, show your creativity,
ask the audience to join and feel your voice, concentrate on it and turn on the
power of imagination and thought.
By incorporating these key elements into their public speaking, people can
strengthen their presence, engage their audience, and deliver impressive and
memorable speeches.
