Moving WD To A New - Different PC
To move your current Weather Display to a new or different computer, follow these steps:
Please read this entire FAQ, including the notes, before starting the move!
Now copy C:\wdisplay and all sub directories from the old computer to the new one.
Note: Vista - If moving (or installing) Weather Display to a Vista machine it is recommended to install to
C:\wdisplay and not C:\Program Files\wdisplay to minimize User Access Control and Administrator Permissions
issues.
Note: If you are using files and/or images from other locations on the old computer, you will also need to
move them to the appropriate location on the new computer.
On the new computer, look in C:\wdisplay\databackup for "wdisplay.ini" (it will say "configuration files"). Move
that file from the databackup to the C:\windows folder.
Note: Window XP & Windows 98 will be C:\windows - Windows 2000 will be C:\winnt.
Note that after version 10.33, the wdisplay.ini file is now stored where you have WD installed
Then, still on the new computer, go back into the databackup folder. Find a file called "wdisplayftp.reg" (it will
say "registration entries"). Simply double click that file to execute the registry entries.
Note: If the weather-station is connected to a different port than it was on the old PC you will have to change
the port assigned in WD.
Note: One problem can occur - if the registry entry is not default, i.e. its by a logged user address, then the
default entry will need to have the default path in each line of the registry file changed to the needed path. If
after starting WD, and the registry entries have not loaded, try the following. Go to ftp/internet setup, then
click OK. Then use regedit.exe and search for wdisplayftp.ini - do multiple searches - if you find one that only
has a few entries, then copy / take note of the path used. Then change the default path in the wdisplayftp.reg
file using a text editor to the required path, and save that file. Then double click on the wdisplayftp.reg file.
Note 2: If you can't see the file extensions when looking at the files (you find wdisplay without the ".ini"
extension) you will need to change a setting in Windows. While viewing the files, in the menu bar, click on
"Tools" > "Folder Options" - click on the "View" tab. About half way down the list in advanced settings, un-
check the box for "Hide extensions for know file types".
Note: since version 10.33w, the wdisplay.ini file is now stored where you have weather display installed
Also, important note, if your new PC has a different drive letter (e.g c: drive when it was d: drive before), then
you will need to either edit the wdislay.ini settings file for all references to the wrong drive and the
wdisplayftp.ini settings in the registry, or change all the file and drive references in WD once started with the
settings files from the other PC
