Objectives of Research
• To gain familiarity with a phenomenon or to achieve new insights into it

• To portray accurately the characteristics of a particular individual, situation or a group

• To determine the frequency with which something occurs or with which it is associated
with something else

• To test a hypothesis of a causal relationship between variables

3
Motivation in Research
• Get a research degree for benefits in academic and research carrier

• Take up the challenge in solving the unsolved problems in the theoretical and applied
research domain

• Intellectual joy of doing some creative/ new work

• Get noticed in research community

• For the sustainable development of the society

• Search for Excellence

So TRUE for a Good Research
7
Role of Methodology in Research
The 'methodology' in a research strategy outlines the steps involved in research process
• Systematic Approach to attain goals of the
research
• Defines stages and interdependency among
stages
• Provides rationale for selecting appropriate data
type and methods
• Provides rationale for selecting correct analysis
