Last holiday my students and I went to Jogjakarta. We stayed at Morison Hotel which is not a
long way from Malioboro. On Friday, we went to the sanctuaries in Prambanan. There are three
major sanctuaries, the Brahmana, Syiwa and Wisnu sanctuaries. They are truly stunning. We
went by just Brahmana and Syiwa sanctuaries, on the grounds that Wisnu sanctuary is being
remodeled. On Saturday morning we went to Yogya Kraton. We spent around two hours there.
We were fortunate on the grounds that we were driven by a brilliant and amicable aide. At that
point we proceeded with our adventure to Borobudur. We touched base there at four p.m. At 6
p.m. we heard the declaration that Borobudur entryway would be closed. In the evening we left
Jogjakarta by bus.

The Battle of Surabaya was fought between pro-independence Indonesian soldiers and militia
against British and British Indian troops as a part of the Indonesian National Revolution.
On 27 October 1945, a British plane from Jakarta dropped leaflets over Surabaya urging all
Indonesian troops and militia to surrender their weapons. The leaders of the Indonesian troops
and militia were angered, seeing it as a breaking of the agreement reached with Mallaby earlier.
Brigadier A. W. S. Mallaby, the British brigade commander in Surabaya, was travelling about
Surabaya to spread the news about the new agreement to his troops. Shortly after that, Mallaby
was shot and killed. That made Lieutenant General Sir Philip Christison was angered .
At dawn on 10 November, British troops began a methodical advance through the city under
the cover of naval and air bombardment. Fighting was heavy, with British troops clearing
buildings room by room.
The battle was the heaviest single battle of the revolution and became a national symbol of
Indonesian resistance. Considered a heroic effort by Indonesians, the battle helped galvanise
Indonesian and international support for Indonesian independence.
It was a day now commemorated in Indonesia as Heroes’ Day.
Bali Bird Park is a large walk-in-aviary which consists of more than 1.000 birds. Located in
Singapadu, Bali, this park was opened in September 1995. Before 1995, the site of Bird Park in
Singapadu was just an expanse of terraced rice fields. This extraordinary transformation was don
by Edi Swoboda. A dedicated naturlist since childhood, Edi Swoboda, has lived in Bali for many
years. He had long dreamed of creating a bird park. He personally designed every detail of the
gardens and aviaries. To enrich the park, Edi Swoboda placed orignal artifacts from different
places in Indonesia (many incorporating bird themes). These artifacts, undoubtedly, draw
visitor’s attention, and giving nuances of nature to them.
