WOODEN PAPER TURNING CALENDAR
AIM: To make a wooden page turning calendar as per measurement
OBJECTIVE: To design, create, and implement a functional wooden
paper turning calendar. This project aims to showcase the integration
of carpentry skills with practical utility by constructing a visually
appealing and durable calendar. The project will involve precision in
cutting and shaping wooden components, meticulous assembly of the
turning mechanism, and the thoughtful attachment of paper for ease of
use. Through this endeavour, the goal is to enhance hands-on
carpentry skills while producing a tangible and aesthetically pleasing
final product that serves as both a decorative item and a functional
calendar.
TOOLS AND MATERIALS REQUIRED:
1. Carpenter's Vice:
Secures the workpiece firmly, preventing movement during cutting
and shaping. The adjustable jaws accommodate different-sized
materials, providing versatility.
2. Marking Gauge:
Enables precise marking of measurements on the wood surface. Its
adjustability for different depths ensures accurate and consistent
markings.
3. Steel Rule:
Essential for measuring and maintaining accurate dimensions in
carpentry work. Its durable and straight construction provides a
reliable reference for cutting and shaping.
4. Try-Square:
Ensures the edges and corners of wooden pieces are perfectly
perpendicular, facilitating accuracy in joinery and assembly by
verifying squareness.
5. Wooden Mallet:
Provides a controlled force for tapping chisels and fitting joints
without causing damage. The wooden construction minimizes the risk
of marring the workpiece.
7. Tenon Saw:
Ideal for precise cuts, especially when forming tenons or detailed
woodworking. Fine teeth and a rigid back contribute to accurate and
controlled cutting.
8. Firmer Chisel:
A versatile tool for various woodworking tasks, such as cutting and
shaping. Available in different widths, accommodating different tasks
and wood types.
9. Mortise Chisel:
Specifically designed for cutting clean and accurate mortises in
wood. Its sturdy construction allows for effective removal of wood
when creating mortise joints.
10. Jack Plane:
Essential for smoothing and flattening surfaces, providing a
refined finish. The adjustable blade depth allows for customization
based on the project's requirements.
SEQUENCE OF OPERATIONS:
Step 1: Design and Planning
Create a detailed design for the wooden paper turning calendar,
considering dimensions and aesthetics.
Step 4: Assembly
- Arrange and securely attach wooden components, focusing on the
turning mechanism.
Step 5: Paper Attachment
- Attach paper securely to the wooden framework using rings for
easy page turning.
PRECAUTIONS:
1. While cutting the wood sufficient distance must be maintained from
instruments.
2. The wood piece should not be cut by holding in the hands.
3. Loose clothing should always be avoided.
4. Working tools should not be kept at the edge of the table.
RESULT:
Hence, A wooden paper turning calendar is made
