Good day Maristas. I'm Steven Guiele J Jamandre, deputy leader of the opposition.

First and foremost, In the context of the Philippines, the typical school day spans from 7:30 am
to 4 pm, demanding early mornings and late evenings from students. This rigorous schedule
often results in chronic health issues, particularly sleep deprivation. According to research, a
person needs to get enough sleep; one needs an average of 8 hours a day for the body to function
well; and because of the long school hours, this ‘need’ is being sacrificed by many students.

Hence, due to this, we thirst for a chance that would prioritize us. We think that the government's
proposal is better at pacifying our thirst. Yet it would be the Best if we focus on the root of the
problem which is the long draining school hours. Instead of getting a 1 day sigh of relief.
Because if we continue the motion, that 1 day loss of regular classes will result in a domino
negative effect in the field of quality and pacing of the educational curriculum.

As we all know, a school year only consists of 203 days as proposed by (teacher ph.com). All
things considered such as holidays, strikes, calamities, these can lessen the progress of education.
Yes, we do online classes at home, but in this context, Friday is an asynchronous session whereas
there's no online class but just pure passing of assignments.

That 1 day in a week if we pursue this will be accumulated to 4 days in a month, and 40 days in a
school year.

To progress a right pacing in lessons, the head sectors of the education might undergo an
extension of days in a school year to make the lessons more comprehensible to students in
accordance to

Republic Act No. 7797, Otherwise Known As "An Act to Lengthen the School Calendar from
Two Hundred (200) Days to Not More than Two Hundred Twenty (220) Class Days.

Therefore, the head sectors have 2 options, whether to extend the school days which would
sacrifice the summer break of the students by 17 days, or condensed the lessons into the brains of
the students to do 3 in 1 sessions. Still, each of these would be detrimental to the students due to
shorter breaks or absorbing too much information in one session. Exemplying further that
60-80% students lack focus in class due to their sleep deprivation according to innerdrive.

Isn't it ironic that the government is offering a proposal that contributes to alleviating students'
stress and draining schedules, whereas you'll definitely feel it afterwards due to the repercussions
of their proposal?
To oppose that idea, since our proposal is to focus on the school hours that ask for a day in
which students could relieve themselves, we propose a 5 day school day. But instead of 7am to
4pm, mostly this is experienced by the Senior High School department and often for juniors
high, we propose a 7-12 am school hours for Marist. You might say that it might just squeeze the
lessons in a shorter time, but remember the online class schedule that we have this year. It doesn't
hinder the progression and pacing of the lesson but it gives the students a more free time to focus
on themselves not just for 1 day, but for the whole whopping 5 days.

In this way, you'll no longer feel drained on 4 corresponding weekdays of school due to the
shorter school hours yet it also helps the educational curriculum to progress at a right pacing
while ensuring that students will be able to absorb the lessons at a proper, fair and just allotted
time. Not just overfeeding them with slides presentations.

Some may say that the provision of an asynchronous class where all the assignments will be
paid to one day is commendable because it was already implemented last year. Well it is indeed
valid and correct.

If we will only look at the view of the regular students.

To give you a broader perspective, at the year where blended classes are happening in the view
of the regular students, the pm shift believes that this provision will not be adequate to maximize
the potential of the students due to frequent percentage of students who are least favored and less
fortunate that experiences difficulties on catching up with the necessities that it requires us to
perform this assignments and spls in one go.

In simpler means, on a marxist view, which explains that people are separated by social
classes, The regular students, who are mostly middle and upper class students, have the
necessities to perform the needs of properly executing handful spls and assignments in one go.
But for the pm shift where some of the marginalized people lie behind, these percentage of
students experience difficulties due to external factors that hinders their true potential. Such as
not enough space that hinders attention due to distraction, lack of Access to the internet since
some only purchase data due to financial instability, and lastly are the simulation from tasks that
are only exclusively for computers and laptops. In these types of students where the least favored
are seen, they will suffer to be on par with others, although schools can extend their help on
addressing the needs of these students. By letting them use the computer room for their late
assigned tasks at home, the context revolves in marikina and not just in marist. Therefore not
everyone is guaranteed to be secured with these types of considerations. ( trap)
Given the fact that scholars are expected to excel in their academic performance to unleash
their maximum potential, how could they excell if we do not allow them to have the equitable
access to the same middle ground like others?

Further, the pouring of spls and assignments as one day in the context of the government might
be beneficial since there is enough flexibility of time to answer these at your own pace, but
remember that not all students are fast learners. The self paced learning and assignments pushes
us to learn things on our own, But to give fresh perspective not just with the student who excel
in independence , some students prefer learning through visuals, through audio, and as well
through experience, the power of collaboration.

Different perspective of learning helps us to understand the importance of not only focusing on
a certain teaching style but giving better access to a more inclusive style by introducing a
curriculum in which everybody can easily grasp. Not just viewing a certain type of students for
the implementation as a whole.

To conclude, the benefits of the proposal from the opposition not only gives a better offer
amidst the draining energy from students, but also to address centralized learning techniques,
mitigate the chance of overfeeding lessons due to lower numbers of school days. And lastly to
promote inclusivity to all students to all social classes to be included in the process of
implementation.
