Space Exploration Argument Essay - Dominic Scarpitta

In today's world, where every dollar spent can be placed under a microscope, the value of
space exploration is often questioned. People argue that it can be a useless expenditure,
channeling billions into the unknown while we are faced with problems here on Earth. However,
I firmly stand on the side of advancing our journey into space, not just as a venture of curiosity
but as a needed step for humanity's future.

First, space exploration is a testament to human curiosity and our desire to want to
understand the space around us. The universe is very immense, and most of it is beyond our
comprehension. Every exploration we undergo is a step toward unraveling some of the
unanswered questions of the univers. The knowledge we gain from exploring space is priceless.
It shapes our understanding of the universe, and our place within it. It is basic human nature to
grow our understanding of such.

One of the common arguments against space exploration is its cost. Yes it is true; space
missions require a lot of funding. Although, it is extremely important to put in perspective that
the funding this requires are a fraction of what the government uses for spending. For example it
is significantly less than defense, healthcare, or welfare. In addition, the return on investment in
space tech can be seen in many technologies we use daily, such as GPS, advanced materials, and
medical technologies, all of which were developed or improved through space research.

Private companies like Space X led by Elon Musk have revolutionized space exploration.
It has allowed for the privatization of space exploration, and have allowed much to be done in
such small amounts of time. Criticizing the investment of private funds into space exploration
overlooks the significant advancements these efforts have contributed to, including reducing the
cost of launching satellites, improving global communication networks, and even laying the
groundwork for future Mars colonization. It's a clear indication that space exploration is not just
a governmental whim but a collective human endeavor that spans across sectors.

While some may argue that the funds for space exploration could be better spent on
pressing earthly concerns, it's significant to understand that investment in space exploration is an
investment in our future. The challenges of space push us to innovate, leading to technologies
that have direct applications on Earth, including in environmental monitoring, disaster
management, and even agriculture.

In conclusion, space exploration is not a just a luxury or an escape from earthly

responsibilities; it is a fundamental pursuit that drives innovation, expands our knowledge, and
unites us under a common goal. It is needed to answer questions we would never have had the
answers to without such space exploration. By doing so we are able to pave the way for the
future of humanity. I belive we should embrace space exploration, not as an optional use of
government funds, but as an essential journey for the human race.
