Let me begin my talk with the definitions of

‘wildlife’ and ‘wildlife conservation’. ‘Wild-life’
means animals, birds and plants that are found in
their natural habitats. And ‘wildlife conservation’ is
the practice of protecting wild plants and animal
species and their habitats. Now, I’ll be dealing with
the aims of wildlife conservation which are to
protect wildlife from being extinct; and to maintain
the number of wild-life in balance with their
habitats.
First, “How can we protect wildlife?” There are
three ways – (1) We have to conduct surveys and
collect information about wildlife, especially, their
number and growth. (2) We must ban the killing or
capturing of endangered animals and birds. (3) We
need to educate people about the importance of
TheresaMay Facebook Page My Innovation For Education Facebook Page Grade-11 English

wildlife, because some people cause harm to them

as they are unaware of the importance of wildlife.
Next, I’ll explain how we can maintain the number
of wildlife in balance with their habitats. As the
habitat destruction is the main threat to the
wildlife, cutting down forest trees should be
prohibited and planting more trees should be
encouraged. Moreover, we should establish
protected areas like national parks and wild-life
sanctuaries to preserve natural habitats for them.In
conclusion, I would like to say that it is high time to
pay more attention to the conservation of wildlife
for their future existence.

Unit 2: ONLINE SHOPPING

What do you do on the net?

Dialogue 1
A : What do you do on the net?
B : I use the internet mainly for banking.
A : Why?
B : It’s good because I can check my balance
anytime. I can transfer money, too. I like
paying bills online. It’s very convenient.
A : Is it diffcult to pay bills online?

B : Of course not. You just log on your bank

and click on ‘Pay now’, and the bill is paid
immediately.

Dialogue 2
A : What do you do on the net?
B : I do my weekly shopping, and things are
all delivered.
A : What do you usually buy?
B : Clothes, birthday presents, Christmas
presents, books, music – the lot!
A : Wow! Which website do you usually use?
B : Ah, a variety of websites. But my favourite
is Shop.com.
TheresaMay Facebook Page My Innovation For Education Facebook Page Grade-11 English

Dialogue 3
A : What do you do on the net?
B : I use the net to look for jobs and flats, and
to see what’s on. I also use the net for
Facebook.
A : Wow! What can we do on Facebook?
B : You post a photo and your profile. You can
say what you want – biography, hobbies,
interests, music, and films. You control who
can see your posts. You can find new
friends especially when you identify
someone you’d like to meet on the site. We
normally share common interests. It’s
really exciting.

Unit 3: MEMORY
Listen to Soe Thu talking about his childhood
events.I don’t have a very good memory, but
sometimes, certain sights, smells, tastes or even
sounds make me remember some of my childhood
events. For example, the smell and taste of mont-
hin-gah always remind me of my mother because
she used to cook mont-hin-gah on Sundays when
we were young. And whenever I hear the song ‘You
are my Sunshine’, it makes me think of my
neighbour friend, Cho Cho. We liked the song so
much that we often sang it on the way back home
after school. Another thing is that when I see a
white cat with black spots, it reminds me of my first
pet cat. She was called Mi Phyu and I still remember
the day I got her. It was my seventh birthday. I was
really excited as she was so cute. She used to sit by
my side while I was studying and I played with her
before I went to bed.

Unit 4: GLOBALIZATION OF FOOD

Here are the advantages and disadvantages of fast

food worth considering. First, I’ll tell you the
advantages of eating fast food.
1. It’s fast. A primary reason for the popularity of
fast food is that it’s fast as its name suggests.
People live busy lives. Preparing our own food
might sound nice, but it isn’t always possible. Going
to the local fast-food restaurant, you can satisfy
your hunger in a few minutes.
2. It’s delicious. Fast food normally tastes very
good. It may not be the best food, but it isn’t that
bad either – especially if you consider the time it
took to make and the price that you paid for it.
3. It’s reasonable. Fast-food chains offer a meal out
at affordable prices. You can go and enjoy some fast
food without costing you much.
TheresaMay Facebook Page My Innovation For Education Facebook Page Grade-11 English

4. It is not as bad as many people think. More and

more fast-food chains are offering healthier
options. They try to consider the needs of
increasingly health-conscious audience. You will
find some healthy options on the fast-food menus
these days. In some countries, you can get burgers
that look and taste exactly like beef, chicken and
lobster made from plants.
Here are the disadvantages of fast food.
1. It’s unhealthy. All of us will agree that eating
from fast-food restaurants is unhealthy. The
saturated fat, added sugar, salt and additives are all
said to be bad for our health. If you have decided to
eat fast food, it’s best not to eat too much of it. It’s
best to avoid it.
2. It can make you feel sick. You might feel a bit sick
after eating fast food, which contains a lot of fat,
sugar, grease and salt, especially when you eat
more than your body really needs and you suffer
the consequences.
TheresaMay Facebook Page My Innovation For Education Facebook Page Grade-11 English

3. It’s addictive. Eating fast food can be addictive.

The more you eat it, the harder it is to avoid eating
it. And, like any addiction, you’ll want to eat it too
often, which could lead to many health problems.
You might spend a lot of money on it too. The food
may be cheap, but if you’re buying it all the time the
cost is going to add up.
4. It makes families spend less and less time
together. Family meal time is something that is
considered as an opportunity for all the members to
come together and share their experiences.
However, eating at fast-food restaurants is quickly
taking away the quality time of families. You should,
therefore, learn to choose fast food carefully and
remember the pleasure of eating good food in good
company.

Unit 6: TRAVEL IN SOUTHEAST ASIA II

How to be responsible travellers

Before making a trip, it's important to think about
how you can be a responsible traveller and reduce
the negative impact you may create on the
environment. If so, what can you do? It's not always
easy to be a responsible traveller, but it's necessary
to keep a few things in mind.
TheresaMay Facebook Page My Innovation For Education Facebook Page Grade-11 English

Here are 5 simple ways to be a responsible

traveller:

1. Buy local items

A big part of a responsible traveller is supporting
the local community, helping it to grow and
flourish. One of the best ways to make a positive
impact on the lives of the local people in the place
you're visiting is to buy locally made handicrafts
instead of those that have been shipped from
continent to continent for thousands of miles.

2. Watch your waste

Every year, million tons of plastic end up in the
oceans. Garbage on the beach and in the water
looks ugly, and is really harmful to marine life and
the environment. A great way to help out with
waste is to use reusable bags and containers and
natural and plastic-free products.
TheresaMay Facebook Page My Innovation For Education Facebook Page Grade-11 English

3. Save energy
Taking a train or a bus is a much greener way to get
around than taking a taxi. If you can, walk or cycle.
If you have to take a taxi, try to share the ride with
someone else. Other ways to save energy while
travelling involve taking shorter showers, reducing
your hot showers, adjusting your air-conditioning,
avoiding unnecessary washing and drying and
turning lights off when not in use.

4. Respect the culture and customs of local people

It's also important to respect the culture and
customs of the destinations you travel to. In many
parts of the world, wearing shorts and t-shirts isn't
appropriate. If you're visiting temples and religious
monuments, make sure you're dressed according to
the culture and customs of the local people.
TheresaMay Facebook Page My Innovation For Education Facebook Page Grade-11 English

5. Visit less popular places

In the world, some places have so many tourists
that they have to limit the number of people. In
some cases, they have to shut down some places!
One thing you can do is to visit less popular places.
It will help to balance out the number of tourists
across the more popular destinations. You'll have a
more enjoyable experience by not having to deal
with crowded streets.
Everyone can be a responsible traveller. As I've
mentioned, there are many simple ways in which
you can help out the environment and the local
people.

Unit 7: SYSTEMS AND ORGANS OF THE HUMAN

BODY

Thinzar:Hi, Su Mon. We haven't seen each other

since the beginning of the Thidingyut holiday. What
have you been doing?
Su Mon:I went on a trip to Bagan with my cousins.
After the trip, I helped my mum with the
housework. What about you? Did you go
anywhere?
Thinzar:No, I didn't. I just stayed at home, sitting in
front of the TV right after meals for about four or
five hours every day, and now I've put on 5 pounds!
If I go on like this, I'll gain 10 pounds by the end of
this month!
Su Mon:If it's your real concern, why don't you take
up something challenging? Many people try to reduce
weight by doing workouts or doing sports. These will
burn calories and make you more energetic.
TheresaMay Facebook Page My Innovation For Education Facebook Page Grade-11 English

Thinzar:I think it's a good idea. That will reduce my

weight and I'll also have a chance to go out. What
sports would you recommend?
Su Mon:Well, you can take up either team sports or
individual sports. Both are good for health. With
team sports you can develop a sense of fair play and
social skills. Some of my classmates are doing team
sports like basketball, volleyball and football.
Thinzar:For me, I prefer individual sports.
Su Mon:If so, choose the sports like swimming,
gymnastics or kickboxing.
Thinzar:I'll definitely choose swimming. It doesn't
cost me much.
Su Mon:OK, then. You'd better start going swimming
soon before you put on much weight.
Thinzar:Thanks for your advice.

Unit 8: THE LAST LEAF

A: Ni Mar, do you like the short story 'The Last

Leaf'?
B: Of course. I like the characters of the story, Sue,
Johnsy and Behrman.
A: What do you think the theme of the story is?
B: I think it's about friendship. The characters
share similar passions. All of them are artists
and they love art. And when Johnsy falls ill, Sue
manages all her care. She also encourages her
to think positively.
A: Mr Behrman helps Johnsy survive, too. He takes
the risk of falling ill - he paints a green leaf on
the wall opposite in the heavy rain. That's why I
think the theme of the story is selfless sacrifice.
B: Hmm, you're right. Sue is also willing to sacrifice
her wishes and time for her friend.
TheresaMay Facebook Page My Innovation For Education Facebook Page Grade-11 English

A: Yes, it proves that love and kindness is more

valuable than expensive material possessions.
B: Ah, I agree with you.

Unit 9: STRESS, AND HOW TO BEAT IT

Music has soothing power. It has a unique link to

our emotions, so it can be an extremely effective
stress management tool.
Listening to music can have a very relaxing effect on
our minds and bodies, especially slow, quiet
classical music. This type of music can have a
beneficial effect on our physiological functions. It
can slow the pulse and heart rate, lower blood
pressure, and decrease the levels of stress
hormones. Music, in short, can act as a powerful
stress management tool in our lives.
Musical preference varies widely between
individuals. Only you can decide what you like and
what is suitable for each mood. But even if you
don't usually listen to classical music, it may be
worth giving it a try when selecting the most
calming music.
TheresaMay Facebook Page My Innovation For Education Facebook Page Grade-11 English

When people are stressed out, there is a tendency

to avoid actively listening to music. Perhaps it feels
like a waste of time, not helping to achieve
anything.
To incorporate music into a busy life, try playing
CDs in the car, or put the radio on when in the bath
or shower. Take portable music with you walking
the dog, or put the stereo on instead of the TV.
Singing or shouting alone can also be a great release
of tension, and karaoke is very enjoyable for some
people! Calming music before bedtime promotes
peace and relaxation and helps to induce sleep.
TheresaMay Facebook Page My Innovation For Education Facebook Page Grade-11 English

Unit 10: SLEEP DEPRIVATION

I don't think there is enough time for me. I am

always busy the whole day long, from the time I get
up to the time I go to bed. Before the class, I have
to attend extra English and mathematics classes. I
am only free a bit during lunch break. When my
classes are over, I have to go straight to my coach,
who helps me with my studies. I'd finish only at
seven in the evening. I usually have my dinner only
at half past seven. I can relax for half an hour only
after dinner and I have to be back to my studies. My
mother makes me study, whether I am interested in
it or not until midnight. I feel that I don't have
enough sleep. I actually would like to meet up with
friends and play with them. I don't even have time
during weekends for my hobbies which are painting
and playing basketball. I'd like to have more time to
walk my dog and pursue my hobbies. Having to
study all the time is really stressful for me and if I
TheresaMay Facebook Page My Innovation For Education Facebook Page Grade-11 English

could ask for one thing then it would be more time

to sleep and to relax.

Unit 11: DREAMS

Good morning! Today, I'd like to talk about 'The

importance of having big dreams in life' and to urge
you to dream big.
First, I'd like to tell you what exactly a big dream is.
A big dream is a large and important wish or an
ambition or something you often think about
because you would like it to happen. When you
achieve it, it would fulfil or satisfy your desire. A big
dream can also be a powerful idea. It is often said
that the size of our success is measured by the size
of our dream.
To some, a big dream is a vision of the future, a
vision that both scares and excites you at the same
time. It brings out your passion, imagination,
creativity and a willingness to take risks. We can see
TheresaMay Facebook Page My Innovation For Education Facebook Page Grade-11 English

the final destination in our mind's eye, and it

motivates and empowers us. A big dream is
something that can make us and things better.
Second, we have desires that we want to fulfil in
life. Different people have different dreams. A
dream could range from something as simple as
wanting to pass an examination to something like
becoming a millionaire. Some people dream of
getting a job, getting a degree, buying an expensive
car or a grand house, getting married, having
children, getting a promotion, starting a business,
inventing something, travelling around the world,
becoming famous and many others. We can have an
endless list of dreams.
Thirdly, I'd like to urge you to allow yourself to dare
to dream big dreams. Whatever your dream is, you
should own it and be proud of it. Then, implement it
bravely and keep working on your plans until they
are complete. Walt Disney, thus, claims that 'All our
dreams can come true if we have the courage to
TheresaMay Facebook Page My Innovation For Education Facebook Page Grade-11 English

pursue them'. You must create your own personal

success in life and dare to dream big! Every great
achievement begins with a dream. Decide what you
want, write it down, make a plan, and then take
action.
To sum up, I'd like to remind you that dreaming is
important, but having to implement the dream is
more important. Try to follow your dreams boldly,
know your strengths and take up the challenge to
succeed! You should realize that there's a long road
ahead. However, over time your dream will come
true. It doesn't happen overnight. But, eventually it
will happen.

Unit 12: NATURAL DISASTERS

Presenter:Today, I'm going to interview three

people who witnessed natural disasters. The first is
Lwin Mar, whose native town is Bogalay,
Ayeyarwady Region. Lwin Mar, tell us about the
worst natural disaster you have experienced
throughout your life.
Speaker 1:Well, I'm now 22 and it happened
thirteen years ago, on the 2nd of May while I was
living in a small village in Bogalay Township,
Ayeyarwady Delta. Cyclone Nargis hit our area
which is vulnerable to cyclones as it is low-lying and
open to the sea. As it was a storm surge, the winds
pushed a wall of water inland. So, the water got
higher than build ings and trees. When the storm
was over, I looked around my vil lage. One word can
describe the situation heartbreaking. We lost
almost everything - our relatives, our homes and
our businesses.
TheresaMay Facebook Page My Innovation For Education Facebook Page Grade-11 English

Presenter:Oh, I really don't know what to say. I'm

very sorry. Right now, I'd like to ask U Tint Lwin
about his experience. Can you tell us about the
moment you have been affected by a natural
disaster? What was the experience like?
Speaker 2:Last year, I returned to my home country
from India. I was sent to a quarantine centre as it
was the time of COVID-19 pandemic. After four or
five days of my arrival, I got a fever and couldn't
sense any taste and smell. So, I had to undergo the
swab test and the experience was very
uncomfortable. Sadly, I tested positive and so, I was
sent to the hospital. I was lucky enough. Unlike
other serious cases, I didn't have much difficulty in
breathing. I was discharged from the hospital after I
tested negative of Corona virus for 2 times. That
one month was quite a hard time for me.
Presenter:I'm so sorry to hear that! Now, Daw Khin
Maw, can you tell us about the natural disaster you
have witnessed in your life? What was it like?
TheresaMay Facebook Page My Innovation For Education Facebook Page Grade-11 English

Speaker 3: One fine afternoon in August, 2016, my

family and I were going around the temples in
Bagan. Suddenly, I felt movements on the ground
and felt dizzy. As soon as we realized that it was an
earthquake, we ran out from the temple quickly.
Luckily, no one in Bagan was injured but nearly 400
pagodas were damaged. Struck by a 6.8 magnitude
earthquake, the place looked shredded, with
collapsed walls, piles of rubble and brick debris
littering the archaeo logical zone.
Presenter:That's a shame! Well, this is the end of
our interview. Thanks for sharing your experiences
with us. Thank you, all the listeners, for being with
us.
