    Work this 24 row pattern 8 more times (total 9 repeats), but at row 22 on the final repeat, place 3 buttonholes
    evenly spaced across the piece (marked in blue on the graph).
    To make a buttonhole: bind off 2 sts on right side, then cast on 2 sts at buttonhole location on wrong side.
    Finish the 24 row pattern. Knit 2 rows, then bind off loosely.
    Sew buttons onto the long edge of the piece to match buttonholes.
