ANALYSING AND SIMULATING PAM MODULATION - DEMODULATION,

AND ASYNCHRONOUS TRANSMISSION

Chapter 1: Analysing and simulating basic signals and devices in data transmission as
required:

 Frequency of sine wave: 10kHz + 1.xY kHz


 Amplitude of sine wave: 0.5V + 0.1.xY V
 Frequency of Digital signal: 15kHz + 0.2xY kHz
 Amplitude of Digital signal: 2V + 0.2xY V

Presentation:
1. Summary of periodic digital signal periodic and sine signal (in time and frequency
domains).
2. Functions and devices and how to adjust basic parameters and features.
3. Draw a block diagram of the system.
4. Describe the operation of the system.
5. Observe the input and output signals for each block in the time domain and frequency
domain and comment its.

Chapter 2: Analysing and simulating the pulse amplitude modulation and


demodulation (PAM) as required:

 Modulating frequency: 1kHz + 0.2xY KHz


 Modulating amplitude: 0.5V + 0.1xY V
 Sampling frequency: 15kHz + 0.2xY KHz
 amplitude of sampling signal: 2V + 0.2xY V

1. Summary of relevant theories.
2. Draw a block diagram of the system.
3. Summary of truth table (Digital IC) and function of components.
4. Describe the operation of the circuit.
5. Observe the input and output signals for each block in the time domain and frequency
domain and comment its.

Chapter 3: Analysing and simulating the asynchronous transmission as required:

 Bit rate: 1kbps + 0.5xY kbps


 Data is 8-bit ASCII code, the last character of student’s name
 Odd groups use odd parity and two stop bits; Even groups use even parity and
one stop bit.
 NRZ-L signal: bit ‘1’: -3V - 0.5xY V ; bit ‘0’: 3V+ 0.5xY V.
Presentation:
1. Summary of relevant theories about asynchronous serial transmission.
2. Characteristics of unipolar and NRZ signals.
3. Draw a block diagram of the system.
4. Summary of status/functional/truth table of components and its function.
5. Describe the operation of the circuit.
