Part 1:

Server - A server is a computer connected to a network of other workstations called 'clients'.

It may serve data to systems on a local area network (LAN) or a wide area network (WAN) over the
Internet.

Client - a client is a piece of computer hardware or software that accesses a service made available by a
server as part of the client–server model of computer networks.

Example of Servers

 Application Server - An application server is a server that hosts applications.

 Blade Server - A blade server is a modular server that allows multiple servers to be housed in a
smaller area. The chassis can then provide the power, manage networking, and more.
 Cloud Server - A cloud server is a virtual server running in a cloud computing environment.
 Database Server - used to store and manage databases that are stored on the server and to
provide data access for authorized users
 Dedicated Server - Dedicated web hosting is what happens when a hosting service provider
leases you a dedicated server.
 Domain Name System - DNS is a hierarchical and decentralized naming system for computers,
services, or other resources connected to the Internet or a private network.
 File Server - A high-speed computer in a network that stores the programs and data files shared
by users.
 Mail Server – is a server that handles and delivers e-mail over a network, usually over the
Internet.

Part 2:

Windows Server Operating System - t enables a computer to handle network roles such as print server,
domain controller, web server, and file server.

Server Operating Systems of Microsoft:

Windows NT 3.1 Advanced Server edition

Windows NT 3.5 Server edition

Windows NT 3.51 Server edition

Windows NT 4.0 (Server, Server Enterprise, and Terminal Server editions)

Windows 2000

Windows Server 2003

Windows Server 2003 R2

Windows Server 2008

Windows Server 2008 R2

Windows Home Server 2011

Windows Server 2012

Windows Server 2012 R2

Windows Server 2016

Windows Server 2019

Server Role - set of software programs that, when they are installed and properly configured, lets a
computer perform a specific function for multiple users or other computers within a network.

Features of Server – is something the server consumes or uses itself, for example Network Load
Balancing, Telnet Client, Failover Clustering etc.

 update hardware and software without a restart or reboot.

 Advanced backup capability for frequent backup of critical data.
 Advanced networking performance.
 Automatic (invisible to the user) data transfer between devices.
 High security for resources, data and memory protection.

SQL Server roles - provides server-level roles to help you manage the permissions on a server. These
roles are security principals that group other principals.

Part 3:

Setup User Access:

 User folder is created in accordance with network operating system (NOS) features
 User access level is configured based on NOS features and established network access
policies/end-user requirements.
 Security check is performed in accordance with established network access policies/end-user
requirements.

Configure Network Services:

 Normal functions of server are checked in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions

 Required modules /add-ons are installed/updated based on NOS installation procedures
 Network services to be configured are confirmed based on user/system requirements
 Operation of network services are checked based on user/system requirements
 Unplanned events or conditions are responded to in accordance with established procedures

Pre-deployment procedures –

 is undertaken based on enterprise policies and procedures.

 Operation and security check are undertaken based on end-user requirements
 Reports are prepared/completed according to enterprise policies and procedures.
Normal Functions of Server

 no error on boot sequence

 network connectivity

Network Services

 remote access
 domain controller
 web services
 database services
 proxy server
 file, printer and other resources sharing

Pre-deployment procedures

 installation of application
 populating database

Cloud Deployment Models

 Public Cloud
 Private Cloud
 Community Cloud
 Hybrid Cloud

DHCP Guarding - Configures Unifi switches to restrict DHCP servers to the IP's listed. This can prevent
malicious or accidental DHCP servers.

Router Guard - The Angular router's navigation guards allow granting or removing access to certain
parts of the navigation.

 Guards in Angular are nothing but the functionality, logic, and code which are executed before
the route is loaded or the ones leaving the route.

Network Virtualization - graph visualization or link analysis is the process of visually presenting
networks of connected entities as links and nodes.

Merging Snapshots - Snapshot consolidation is useful when snapshot disks fail to compact after a Delete
or Delete all operation or if the disk did not consolidate.

VMDK File - "Virtual Machine Disk" VMDK files are virtual disk files containing all the info of a virtual
machine.

Part 4:

 Tools, equipment and testing devices - needed for the maintenance are obtained and checked
for correct operation and safety.
 Materials necessary to complete the work are obtained in accordance with established
procedures and checked against job requirements.
 OHS policies and procedures are followed in line with job requirements.
 Computer Systems and Networks for maintenance are checked against job/service order or
instructions and specifications.
 Personal Protective Equipment is used in line with standard procedures.
 Scheduled/periodic maintenance is performed in accordance with manufacturer’s
requirements.
 Faults or problems in the computer systems and networks are diagnosed according to
requirements and in line with the standard procedures.
