WEEK 1 | my pre-service journey

Today marked my first day as a

practice teacher, where I had the opportunity
to teach ESP 9 and facilitate an ICT class. As
I entered the classroom, a rush of nerves
mingled with excitement flooded my senses. In
ESP 9, navigating discussions on ethical values
and personal development proved challenging,
with some students displaying disinterest. The
ICT class presented a different set of hurdles,
from troubleshooting technical issues to guiding
students through online research activities.
However, amidst the frustrations, witnessing
moments of understanding and hearing
insightful contributions from students
reinforced my passion for teaching. Reflecting
on today's experiences, I realized the immense
toughness of the teaching profession. The day
underscored the importance of our role as
teachers and the impact our demeanor and
image have on the classroom environment. It
became evident that the teacher's image is a
cornerstone of effective teaching, influencing
students' perceptions and attitudes towards
learning.

Today marked my very first day

teaching seventh grade. I started by explaining
what I hoped our class would be like: fun and
friendly. I wanted our classroom to be a place
where we could laugh and learn together. I
shared stories from my own school days to
help everyone feel comfortable. I also made it
clear that I wanted to get to know each
student better. I believe that when we
understand each other, we can work together
better. Looking back on today, I realized that
being a teacher isn't just about teaching
lessons. It's also about creating an environment
where students feel happy and supported. By
setting a positive tone from the start and
showing that I care about my students as
individuals, I'm laying the groundwork for a
successful school year. I'm excited to see how
our class grows and learns together in the
days ahead.

I continued my discussion with grade 9

students. While teaching, Ma'am Arbee advised
me to focus more on questioning students
rather than solely speaking myself throughout
the session. By actively engaging students
through questioning, we can gauge their level
of involvement and ensure their active
participation in the learning process. In grade
7, my lesson was interrupted as former FS
teachers arrived to discuss missing outputs
with the class. Consequently, I had to adapt
and adjust my lesson plans for the following
week to accommodate this unforeseen
interruption. Ma'am Arbee also provided me
with a tangible strategy to enhance student
engagement. She suggested having students
write their answers on a piece of paper in
response to my probing questions. This
approach serves as an effective means to
assess students' prior knowledge and
understanding of the topics we discuss.

Today was a busy day as we engaged in

multiple tasks. We commenced with a thorough
cleaning of the Counseling room, ensuring it
provided a welcoming and organized
environment for our students. Alongside this,
we diligently updated records, focusing
particularly on documenting students' outputs
and tracking any missing assignments from
previous quarters. This meticulous attention to
detail is crucial for effectively supporting our
students' academic progress. In addition to
these tasks, we also participated in a meeting
session. During the meeting, we discussed
various strategies and initiatives aimed at
enhancing the support services offered by the
counseling department. Collaborating with
colleagues allowed us to exchange ideas, share
best practices, and align our efforts towards
our shared goal of promoting student well-
being and success. Overall, today was a
productive day filled with meaningful tasks and
collaborative discussions aimed at better
serving the needs of our students.
