Science and Technology: The Use of
Microscope
in the Development of Society

Introduction:

Science and technology hold the key to a nation's progress and development,
creating new technologies that can improve quality of life, economic growth, and social
transformation. New technologies, particularly microscopes, enable scientists to explore
nature in novel ways and make novel discoveries. Despite the fact that there are very
few publications in the literature on the incorporation of microscopy to distant learning
and its benefit to society, using a microscope has become essential in the development
of society. Following strict guidelines for pathogen identification via microscopy made
it easier to establish with confidence the vital data required to better understand the
biology of the illness and develop efficient treatments for current and upcoming
pandemics.

Science and technology work together to enhance one another. New technologies
are made possible by scientific knowledge. Scientist are frequently able to examine
nature in novel ways and make new discoveries thanks to new tools. Additionally, the
advancement of science and technology significantly impacts the nations over all
development.

The fundamental way that science and technology benefit society is by producing
new knowledge and then apply it to improve human prosperity and address society
problems. Science and technology have improved human life, made us feel comfortable
and allow us to live in the modern era.
A. The Topic of Interest or Main Idea.

Microscope are instrumental that are used in science laboratories to visualize very
minute objects such as cells and microorganisms, a giving contrasting image that is
magnified. Microscope are made up of lenses for magnification, each with its own
magnification powers. Depending on the type of lens, it will magnify the specimen
according to its focal strength.

Modern coronavirus research has unquestionably benefited from the use of

electron microscopy techniques. In order to investigate cells, and proteins at the
molecular level, research labs all around the world have been collaborating closely with
electron microscopics on projects like resolving the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein and
identifying potential vaccine candidates.

B. Problem Statement (Why)

This study aimed to determine the use of microscope to the development of the
society.

Specifically, it sought to answer the question: Why science and technology specifically
microscope is essential to the development of the society?
C. Background of the problem:

It is unknown who created the first microscope, however Zacharias Janssen, a

Dutch eye glasses makes born in 1685, is credited with creating one of the early
compound microscopes (those with two lenses) around 1600.The early microscopes had
a 20-30 told or greater magnification power.

The operation of a microscope is described some detail by no less a person than

Aristotle. Curved lenses, an essential component of any stereo or compound
microscope, were certainly utilized by the Greeks. Using a curved lens, also known as a
magnifying glass, to start a fire probably made ancient Greek boys feel as proud as
every American boy. However, the Greeks also used it for surgical procedures, not on
ants like little boys do, but on people to cauterize leprosy wounds and lesions.

The microscope practice course is a crucial part of undergraduate pathology

education because it enables students to understand and examine how cells and tissues
deviate from normal to pathological. Despite being mostly done with conventional light
microscopes, digital (virtual) microscopy is quickly gaining prominence. However,
there are very few publications on the incorporation of digital microscopy to distant
learning in the literature and its benefit to the society. Thus, the research purpose of this
study is to introduce and promote the benefits of using microscope in the development
of the society.

Science has benefited greatly from the invention of the microscope. Microscope
have allowed scientists, researchers, and students to investigate cell structure, discover
the existence of microbes, and view the tiniest details of various types of plants, and
fungus.
II. Main Body – Section 1
A. Extent of Problem.

What is the importance of microscope in our daily lives?

Microscope are the devices that enable us to examine objects more closely and
observe details that are not visible to the human eye. Without them, we wouldn’t
understand the existence of cells, how plants breathe, or how rocks evolve over time.

Why microscope becomes essential in the development of the society?

In our society, microscope are crucial tools. Their activities let people to carry out a
variety of tasks, including identifying harmful viruses and diseases and figuring out
what a cancer cell looks like. With the development of technology, the microscope has
allowed us to observe viruses, particles, electrons, proteins, and cells.

When is microscope becomes very essential in the society?

According to Tyley (2020). Looking ahead, this pandemic might be understood as a part
of a pattern of an increasingly regular “spillover” of viruses from animals to people over
the past few decades. Hopefully, this catastrophe have a better understanding of the
threats to public health through using electron microscopy, a useful tool in the study of
microorganisms. It has been crucial for the quick identification of viruses in patient
samples and has made of substantial contribution to the understanding of virus structure
and function, aiding in the direction of the public health response to newly developing
viral illnesses and developed models for vaccine supply chains.
Who and how of the problem:

Microscope during Pandemic

A pandemic's reports on the discovery of novel viruses create a lasting impression.
They could lead other researchers, doctors, and the general public astray if they are
inaccurate. Following strict guidelines for pathogen identification by using electron
microscopy made it easier to establish with confidence the vital data required to better
understand the biology of the illness and develop efficient treatments for the current and
upcoming pandemics.
The importance of the microscope will undoubtedly increase given the current state
of the world, despite the fact that it is rarely used for educational purposes. There are
many important advantages to using microscopy in education. Online education may be
essential, especially in challenging situations like the COVID-19 pandemic, for students
in remote locations, for synchronous instruction to many remote centers, or for students
with special needs or disabilities.
Microscopes in Education
Microscope are used in the classroom to teach students about the structure of
objects that are too small to be seen with the naked eye. A compound microscope can be
used to view the individual cells of bacteria, yeast, plants and other organisms. Students
can learn about the mechanics of lenses and mirrors, the characteristics of light, and
staining methods for distinct specimens by studying how microscopes operate.
Additionally, as students discover each component’s distinct functions, they may
observe the individual components of the cell.
Microscope in Medicine
When Louis Pasteur stated that the microscopic organisms he saw in the
microscope caused specific disease, the use of microscopes in medicine of officially
began in the 1860s. Up until that point, people believed that diseases were caused by
demons or God. The discovery of the germ theory by Pasteur transformed the methods
for diagnosing, managing, and preventing infectious diseases. The correct antibiotic
may now be prescribed by doctors thanks to the use of microscopes in hospital
laboratories to determine which bacteria is responsible for an infection. They are also
employed in the diagnosis of illnesses like cancer.
III. Body-Section 2

The use of microscope greatly benefits academia, education, and research studies.
Thus, microscope improves the quality of life, solve the various current and upcoming
issues facing society. Therefore, microscope has a fundamental role in developing
society.
The research problem of this study aims to know why using microscope is essential in
the development of the society. The process undertaken to solve this problem are
internet surfing, and library technique in order to gather relevant information.

IV. Body-Section 3
A. Possible solutions

The descriptive research design method is employed in this study. Descriptive

research is defined as a research method used to describe the existing phenomena as
accurately as possible. Descriptive research designs help provide answers to the
questions of who, what, when, where, and how associated with a particular research
problem.

The researcher gathered information from secondary sources such as the internet
and the library. The researcher visited the city's libraries and internet cafés. Researchers
scribble down ideas and take notes on the subject. After the researchers collected and
categorized the data, the year of publication was used to assess its accuracy, reliability,
and up-to-datedness.

Researchers decided against conducting in-person interviews with participants

due to the current circumstances and risks involved. Regular communication within
researchers was critical for progressing the study and maintaining the researchers'
mental health. Researchers were also questioned about their concerns and given
problem-solving assistance while writing the research paper.
V. Conclusion

The advancement of science and technology is essential for a country’s prosperity

and development; in particular, the creation of new technologies, such as microscopes,
allows scientists to examine nature in innovative ways and create unique discoveries.
Even if there aren’t many articles in the literature about the application of microscopy to
distance learning and its benefits for society, using microscope has become crucial.
Following tight rules for the identification of pathogens using microscopy made it
simpler to establish with confidence the crucial data needed to better understand the
biology of the disease and develop effective treatments for current and upcoming
pandemics.

Finally, microscopes have a significant impact on society. Microscopes also play

an important role in research, and without them, many important advances in research,
such as cancer research, would not be possible. Microscopes enable us to live a healthier
and more fulfilling life, and they are invaluable to all of us.

So, science and technology are really an essential part of the society and their
influence are growing significantly. Additionally, it helps to organize everyday
activities, speeds up work completion, has also lead changes in moral standards and
fundamental philosophies of mankind. Thanks to science and technology which help us
see things from new perspectives.
