PM L-drive
The thruster comprise a compact PM motor and an L-shaped power line.

As the drive motor is now located on top of the thruster itself, minimum
service space is required. Motor set is enabling reduced foot print up to 30 %
in the thruster room.

PM-L thrusters offer improved efficiency and simplicity compared to


thrusters with separate electric motors in the thruster room.

Full motor torque
As the chart shows, with the PM-L motor it is possible to achieve full motor torque, even with zero (0) rpm.

Mounting and installation


Mounting of the device is performed can be performed the following ways:
• WSS, Welded standard spider.
• WSC, Welded standard collar.
• BWC , Bottom well cover (see illustration below).

possible lower CAPEX due to lower total installed power requirement.
• Full torque at zero rpm with PM motor.
• Lower Bevel gear ratio allows low propeller tip speed & increased propulsion efficiency.
• Up to 30% reduced foot print in thruster room.
• No alignment of flexible coupling between thruster and motor.

Quality and safety


As all of our products, the PM-L motor fulfills highest Kongsberg Maritime safety requirements and is designed in
acc. with latest class society rules for PM machines.

The PM motor is equipped with a manual activated brake/locking device in acc. to class rules society for wind
milling and Safe Return to Port (SRtP).

The brake is to be activated for personnel safety during maintenance or system failure during operation.
