Installation time
The installation time is approx. 4.0 hours, but this may vary depending on the condition of the car and
the equipment in it.

Important information
These installation instructions are primarily designed for use within the BMW dealership organisation
and by authorised BMW service companies.
In any event the target group for these installation instructions is specialist personnel trained on BMW
cars with the appropriate specialist knowledge.
All work must be completed using the latest BMW repair manuals, circuit diagrams, servicing manuals
and work instructions in a rational order using the prescribed tools (special tools) and observing current
health and safety regulations.

To avoid unnecessary extra work and/or costs, if any installation or function problems occur,
after a brief troubleshooting session (approx. 0.5 hours), contact the following:
1. Either your national sales company or your regional office or
2. The Support team via the Aftersales Assistance Portal (ASAP) using the optional technical
parts support application.
Quote the VIN and the part number of the retrofit kit and provide a detailed description of the
problem.
Do not archive the hard copy of these installation instructions since daily updates are made by ASAP.

Installation information
Ensure that the cables/lines are not kinked or damaged as you install them in the car. The costs incurred
as a result of this will not be reimbursed by BMW AG.
Additional cables/lines that you install must be secured with cable ties.
If the specified PIN chambers are occupied, bridges, double crimps or twin-lead terminals must be used.
All the figures show LHD cars, proceed in exactly the same way on RHD cars.
Some of the installation of the aerial is shown only on the left-hand side of the car, proceed in the same
way on the right-hand side of the car.
Before you install the retrofit system, test the control module status with the CIP (coding, customising,
programming) test program. If the test detects incorrect statuses in one or more control modules, these
must be updated first using the “Load software” function.
After the installation work the retrofit must be programmed / coded using SSS (software service station)
via the Retrofit/CIP path.

Ordering instructions
Check colour versions and technical equipment. The following parts are not supplied in the kits and must
be ordered separately (see EPC for part number and details).
- Centre console switch centre G
- Trim H
The junction box is not supplied with the parts kits and must be ordered separately (see EPC for part
number and further details).

5. To install the roller blind

Cut out the rear window shelf (1) along the

marking (2).

Clip the roller blind B with its side grooves into

the rear window shelf (1).

Remove the foam covers to expose the holes for

1 the roller blind.

Insert the rear window shelf with the roller blind B

E (not shown) and secure it with the screws E from
the boot.

6. To install the wiring harness

Clip in the cover C on the left-hand side.

Clip in the cover D on the right-hand side (not
shown).
A1 C Connect branch A1 to the plug on the roller blind.
Route the wiring harness along the existing
wiring harness into the passenger side footwell
and secure it with cable ties F.

Disconnect plugs X14272 and X14271.

Disconnect plugs X14270 and X4010 on the
rear of the junction box (1) (not shown).
Pull out the junction box (1).

Connect branches A2 and A3 to plug X14270 as

follows:
- Branch A2, GE cable, to PIN 3

- Branch A3, WS cable, to PIN 30
Secure the wiring harness with a cable tie F.

7. To install the centre console switch centre (cars without switch centre only)

Clip the centre console switch centre G into the

G trim H.

Clip the trim H into the instrument panel.

H Connect the plug (1) from the centre console
switch centre G to the heating/air-conditioning
1 control (2).
Clip in the heating/air-conditioning control (2).

8. Concluding work and coding

This retrofit system requires coding.

- Connect the battery
- Encode/Program the retrofit with SSS (software service station) via the Retrofit/CIP path
- Conduct a brief test
- Conduct a function test
- Re-assemble the car
