A. The 4main vital signs routinely measured by health practitioners are listed below.
Briefly note what information these vital signs provide to a doctor.
1. Temperature
A. Body temperature provides important information to the doctor during a physical examination.
Normal body temperature ranges from 36.5°C to 37.5°C. A high body temperature can indicate an
infection or disease. Doctors can measure body temperature in various ways, such as orally, rectally,
underarm, or ear. Apart from body temperature, doctors also check various other metrics, such as
heart rate, weight, height, blood pressure, breathing, and others. This information helps doctors
determine the appropriate diagnosis and treatment.
2. Pulse
Pulse rate provides important information to the doctor during a physical examination. It is used to
assess the heart rate, rhythm, and strength of the pulse, which can provide clues about the patient’s
cardiovascular health. A normal pulse rate for adults is typically between 60 and 100 beats per minute
at rest. A pulse rate that is too high or too low can indicate various medical conditions, such as
tachycardia (fast heart rate) or bradycardia (slow heart rate). Abnormal pulse rates may prompt
further evaluation and testing to determine the underlying cause.
3. Respiration
Respiration is the exchange of gases between living things (organisms) and the environment. Oxygen
for breathing is obtained from the air in the surrounding environment. The definition of counting
breaths is counting the number of breaths (inspirations taken) in one minute. The main purpose of
counting breaths is to determine the patient’s general condition and provide important information
to the doctor.
Doctors can count breathing properly and correctly using methods such as: Measuring inspiratory and
expiratory times. Measures muscle tension in the heart. Measuring respiratory pressure. Measuring
body temperature. This information helps doctors determine the appropriate diagnosis and
treatment. If you feel worried about breathing or experience signs that indicate respiratory problems,
immediately consult a doctor for further examination and appropriate treatment. .
4. Blood Pressure
Blood pressure is a measurement that can determine how strong the heart is to pump blood
throughout the body. Doctors can use a blood pressure measuring device to find out your blood
pressure. Normal blood pressure varies depending on your age and the activities you do. Therefore,
the blood pressure facts that you need to know are that generally blood pressure will differ according
to the time of morning, afternoon or evening 2 . Some important information that blood pressure
provides to a doctor includes: The heart’s power to pump blood throughout the body 2 . Is the blood
pressure in the prehypertension range, when blood pressure is not as low as it should be for optimal
health, but not high enough to be called hypertension 1 . The pattern of changes in blood pressure,
which is closely related to the body’s biological clock, aka circadian rhythm 2 . During a physical
examination, the doctor will also check your blood pressure to identify health conditions and provide
you with important information.

C. Before you doing this task, measuring your body with information below. After that make a dialog
with your friend to ask about their body information. Ask to head of laboratory about measuring tool
(if you in campus) and do this activity in laboratory.
In the Lab
Dwika: “excuse me, Mr John. I need to use scales, sphygmomanometers, height meters, oximeters for
our practical purposes. Can we borrow them?"
Head of Lab: "Of course John. "The tools are inside, please use them and return them as soon as
possible."
Rizal: "Thank you sir. I will practice now.”
