Profile

Application
Water-soluble salts of Hostacor IS are obtained by neutralization with alkanolamines and
aqueous alkali hydroxides. These are used either alone or in combination with other
water-soluble corrosion inhibitors or lubricants in cutting and grinding fluids and in
aqueous hydraulic systems. The preferred application of the water-soluble salts is
machining of ferrous metals. The addition of suitable inhibitors is recommended for the
machining of non-ferrous metals and aluminum.
The neutralization with Genamin CH 020 is recommended to minimize cobalt leaching, or
to prevent the formation of white rust on zinc coated iron.
Alkanolamine salts derived from Hostacor IS are excellent corrosion inhibitors and show
very good hard water stability. Hostacor IS is absolutely compatible with phosphoric acid
esters in neutralized form, like Hordaphos MDB. Thus, EP-properties of semi- and fully
synthetic formulations based on Hostacor IS can be adjusted.
To improve lubrication and to minimize foaming, the combination with EO/PO-mix
polymers like Genapol B, Genapol PN 30 or Genapol PS is recommended.

Foaming behavior
Hostacor IS is a low foaming product. It can normally be used without addition of
defoamer. When making formulations based on Hostacor IS, it is important to ensure that
all mixing apparatus have been properly cleaned. Traces of surfactant can result in a
markedly higher tendency to foam.

Storage instructions
Hostacor IS is a solid product, showing a melting range of about 50°C. Due to the process
conditions, it contains approx. 10 % of water, which is homogeneous associated in the
solid state. During storage and/or transportation at elevated temperatures Hostacor IS
tends to liquify and the associated water can separate on the product surface. This water
separation is typical of the product and has no negative impact on its performance.

In case of separation, Hostacor IS has to be homogenized at 60 - 70°C prior to use.

Maximum storage time: 2 years

Safety
Further information on handling, storage and dispatch is given in the safety data sheet.
