Tournament Format and League Rules

Timings & Overs:


• CricHeroes will manage the tournament point table, team standings, and NRR (Net Run Rate).
• Matches must commence on time as per the schedule or earlier.
• Each over has a maximum duration of 4 minutes.
• One innings of 15 overs must be completed within 60 minutes.
• Umpires have the authority to allow a variation of up to ±10 minutes for an innings. If the time limit is
exceeded, the umpire will intervene and reduce overs for the teams.
• The toss will take place at 17:30, and the first ball will be bowled at 17:45. Before the toss, the pitch and
playing ground must be prepared and ready for the teams. A minimum of 10 minutes will be allocated for
teams to prepare before the first ball is bowled (after the toss). If both teams are ready before the
allocated 10 minutes, umpires can decide to start the match earlier, but not after the time specified in
the schedule.
• Umpires and captains must ensure that the match starts and concludes on time.
• The playing 11 must be provided by both captains in the designated sheet and handed over to the
umpires and scorers before the toss.

Super Over:
• In the event of the scores being level at the end of the match, a Super Over will determine the winner.
• The rules for the Super Over will adhere to the Laws of Cricket.
• Umpires will provide a clear explanation of the Super Over rules before its commencement.

Reserve Day Rule:


League Games:
• There are no extra days kept aside for league matches. If a match can't happen due to rain or other
unforeseen problems, both teams get 1 point each, and the match can't be rescheduled or postponed.
Semifinals & Finals:
• Only semifinals and finals can be moved to another day.
Interrupted Matches:
• If rain interrupts a semifinal or final, the match will continue where it stopped on the next day, or another
date set by the League Committee.

Player Eligibility for Semi-finals and Finals:


• Only players who are registered are allowed to play.
• Players must have participated in at least two league games before they are eligible to play in the semi-finals
and finals.
Note:
• Umpires and GPL Board are authorized to enforce penalties or ban teams from the competition if they do not
adhere to the stated rules.

It’s important to take care of surrounding! (Ground Related Norms):


• Teams must remain in their designated team area.
• Please ensure that you clean the field and your designated area thoroughly before leaving. This
includes disposing of any food waste, banana peels, tissues, or other litter properly. Let's work
together to keep our surroundings clean and enjoyable for everyone.
Roles & Responsibilities
Captains:
• Captains are responsible for retrieving the stumps from the equipment area before the match and
returning them to the same area once the match is over.
• Set up stumps, prepare the pitch, and position boundary cones.
• Return stumps and cones to designated storage area after the match.
• The captain needs to ensure that the umpires assigned from their team arrive on time.
• Ensure that the name of your team's umpire is shared with the GPL Board's email address no later than
Saturday evening.
• If the umpire can't get to the ground on time because of an emergency, make sure to tell the board
beforehand and send a backup umpire to the ground on time.
• If you don't follow these rules, there could be serious consequences like losing points as decided by the
Board. Additionally, the team could face disqualification from the season if occurs multiple times.
• Determine pitch area and inform umpires.
• Matches have no referee; only umpires ensure smooth running.
• Umpire’s decisions are final; both teams must respect them.
• Ensure proper umpires from the team are provided on time.
• Umpires must be familiar with GPL rules and regulations.
• GPL Board is not liable for umpiring mistakes.
Umpires:
• It is mandatory for the umpire to arrive on time.
• If the umpire doesn't show up on time, there could be a penalty for the team. This might mean
deducting 2 points or imposing a fine, depending on the situation and the rules in place.
• Be familiar with all cricket rules & regulations.
• Understand ground boundary markings & rules for single declaration. Consult your captain for
clarification.
• Note: This year, no referees will be present for matches. Umpires are responsible for ensuring smooth
match operation.
• Assist captains in identifying the pitch area and marking the crease.
• If a ball is lost during the match, the umpires will decide which ball will be used to continue the innings;
captains cannot be involved in this process.
• Umpires must switch sides after every over is finished. This helps keep decisions fair and consistent.
• Prior to making any decisions, both umpires can consult each other, ensuring accuracy and agreement in
their rulings.
• If there are over five fielders on the leg side of the striking player, call it a no ball.
• After the match concludes, the umpires must collect the balls and keep them in the designated storage
area.
• Finalize decisions in all situations; both teams must respect umpires' rulings.
• In case of scoring app issues, utilize the android scoring app as a backup.

Additional Umpire Duties:


• Record the start and end times of each inning.
• Note the names of the scorers for both innings.
• Double-check the scorecard during the 8-hour break.
• Report any misconduct.
Wicketkeeper Responsibility:

• The wicketkeeper must inform the leg umpire when moving close to the stumps.

Scorer:
• The batting team is responsible for scoring in the CricHeroes app.
• If there are any issues with the CricHeroes app, scoring should be done alternative Android app,
CricScorer.
• The completed scoring sheet should be handed over to the GPL Board via email at
gothenburgcricketgpl@gmail.com.
• Additionally, the umpires are responsible for selecting the Player of the Match.

Match Rules
Coin Toss Procedure:
• Officials present: Umpires, Team Captain 1, Team Captain 2.
• The coin toss should be conducted solely by the umpire.
• Toss timing: At least 15 minutes before the first ball.
• Presence required: Both Umpires and both Captains.
• Umpires announce result: Heads or tails, and the winning team.
• Playing 11 submission: Before the toss.
• After toss: Captains return to their team-zones.
• Decision time: Winning captain decides (bat/bowl) within 2 minutes of the toss.

Player Gear Regulations:


• Only wicketkeepers are permitted to wear gloves for catching/handling the ball.
• Fielders are prohibited from wearing any form of gloves.
• Batsmen are allowed to wear any necessary protective gear.
• Any additional special gear requirements must be discussed with and approved by the umpires.

Innings Break and Interval Timings:


• Innings break duration is 10 minutes.
• For a 15-over match, there is a 5-minute break after 8 overs completion.
• If the match is less than 15 overs, umpires will decide the interval timings.
• If a team takes more time than specified, umpires may reduce overs for the team based on the time
taken.
No Ball Regulations:

• Bowler overstepping (front foot no ball).


• Bowler’s back foot not touching the side-line for the box.
• Full toss over the waist (decision from leg umpire, announced by main umpire).
• If a bowler bowls more than one ball above the waist, they cannot continue bowling more overs but
can complete the current over (GPL rule).
• Fielders can move forward during the bowler's run-up; backward or sideways movement is not allowed,
and umpires may call it a no ball.
• If there are over five fielders on the leg side of the striking player, the umpire calls it a no ball.
• Bowler must inform the umpire before starting their spell about the side (over or around) and arm they
will bowl with. Failure to do so may result in a no ball.
• If the bowler continues the spell with the same umpire and same side, they do not need to mention the
side for consecutive overs.
• Umpires' decision on no balls is final, and other general cricketing rules for no balls apply.
• Free hit must be signaled by the umpire to the batsman, bowler, and on-field captain. Field change is not
allowed if the same batsman is on strike.

Runs Declaration:
• The spots for declaring singles and boundary lines will be unchanged from last year. Before the match
starts, captains and umpires need to agree and inform everyone on the teams.
• Batter’s strike will change when the ball goes to the single declared area behind the stumps.
• If the catch is taken anywhere on the back side (single declared areas), then it is out.
• It is declared as single when the ball touches the tree/leaves or the slope.
• Any fielder can step onto the slope to catch the ball, and if successful, it is out. If dropped, it is declared
as a single.
Catch at boundary Line:
• When a fielder steps outside the boundary and makes the first contact with the ball from outside the
boundary, it is considered a boundary.

Fielding Rule:
• There shouldn’t be more than five fielders, including the bowler, on the leg side for a striking player.

Bye Rule:
• No byes and leg byes are allowed.

Bouncer Rule:
• 1 bouncer is allowed in 1 over, irrespective of the batsmen.
• A 2nd bouncer in the same over will be called a no ball by any one of the umpires on the field.
• Bouncer warnings should be given by the main umpire (at the bowler’s end) to the bowler and on-field
captain.
• If the ball bounces over the top of the batsman's head, it will be called a wide by the leg umpire.
• If the ball bounces over the batsman's shoulder and below the head, it will be considered a bouncer, and
a warning must be issued. The final decision will be made by the umpires only.
• If the batsman tries to hit a bouncer and gets an edge, it's not considered a wide ball but rather a
bouncer.
• Players must strictly refrain from arguing with the umpire on the field.
Chucking Rule:
• Umpire can warn the bowler once. If the bowler repeats the same action, then the umpire has every
right to discontinue bowling. This will take place only after the batsman complains. The umpire will not
do it voluntarily.
• If the opponent captain feels that the umpire is somehow still allowing chucking, he or his teammates are
allowed to take a video and submit it to the GPL Board to decide for the next matches of the same
bowler.

Overthrows Rule:
• Overthrows are considered (only when ball touches the bat). They will not be considered as Extras;
instead, they will be counted as runs scored by the batsman.
• If overthrows cross granted areas (1 run & 2 runs granted areas), those runs will be granted in addition to
what the batsman has scored with the bat.

Players/Substitutes/Replacement/Retired Hurt Policy:

• Umpires must ensure that the playing 11 is submitted before the toss. Once the toss is done, players
cannot be replaced unless there is a proper reason approved by the umpire.
• A maximum of 3 substitutes can be listed with the playing 11, and these substitutes can only be used for
fielding or wicket-keeping, not for batting or bowling.
• Replacement for a player during the match due to major injuries must be agreed upon by both opponent
captains and umpires.
• Retired hurt is only allowed in case of injury, and it must be approved by umpires. Players cannot leave or
be replaced by the next batsman without a proper reason.
• As per the new ICC rule, the new batsman will always take the strike if the previous batsman is caught
out.
• It is the captain's responsibility to ensure a fair game is played, and players must understand all the rules
and agree with the umpire's decisions.

Ball Handling:
• New balls must be used for each innings.
• The GPL Board will provide the balls.
• If a ball is lost during the match, umpires will decide which ball will be used to continue the innings;
captains cannot be involved in this process.
• After the match concludes, the umpires must collect the balls and keep them in the designated storage
area.
