Job Purpose

The London-based role requires periodic research and project travel to the region and close collaboration with Control Risks team of analysts, consultants and business developers. It involves contributing to Control Risks analytical coverage of Central and South-eastern Europe for two subscription products; delivering in-depth bespoke reports and briefings to clients; providing expert comment to media; and participating in conferences and other events.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Maintaining a high level of regional and country expertise through reading, research, attendance at relevant seminars and research trips. Identifying, using and effectively managing subcontractor and stringer resources.

Online Services: Writing daily updates on Country Risk Forecast (CRF) on relevant developments in the region. Updating and maintaining CRF background sections. Responding to subscriber and client queries pertaining to the region. Liaising with Travel Security Services (TSS) to ensure timely, consistent and unambiguous advice on business continuity and travel. Liaising with Global Issues desk to ensure consistency on transnational topics and, if required, contributing to multi-country research projects.

Customised reports and projects: Project management and delivery of political and security risk assessments on the Central and Eastern European region, in conjunction with the Consulting Projects team. Leading and assisting in writing proposals for work on European countries, in consultation with the departments Consulting Projects team.

Retainer service: Producing high quality research notes on a range of topics relevant to the region on a regular basis.

Marketing and business development: Identifying business opportunities for the company in general and GRA in particular. Contributing where necessary to company-wide promotional publications, press releases and sales initiatives. Representing GRA at conferences and seminars.

Media work: Undertaking broadcast and print media work as requested by Press Office.

Networking and sources: Liaising regularly with Control Risks offices in the region Sharing and obtaining information from Control Risks security consultants deployed on short- or long term assignments in portfolio countries. Developing and maintaining government, academic, journalistic or business contacts in the UK and in the region.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential Knowledge and understanding of key political, operational and security risk issues in Central and South-eastern Europe. Good contacts with foreign or locally based political and security experts. Familiarity with business-focused research. Academic or professional training in at least one of political science, international relations, international political economy and security studies.

Qualifications and Specialist Skills

Essential Masters degree (or equivalent) in relevant discipline. Proficiency in one or more languages of the region. Practical experience of living, working or travelling in the region. Ability to write clearly, concisely and authoritatively to tight deadlines.

Preferred Previous professional experience of political risk analysis. Ability to identify and interpret events and developments of potential interest or concern to Control Risks client base.
