    Q1. Define linear equation with examples.

    Q2. Write all conditions for solvability (or consistency).

    Q3. If the lines given by 3x+2ky=2 and 2x+5y+1=0 are parallel, then find the value of k

    Q4. Find the co-ordinate where the line x-y=8 will intesect y- axis.

    Q5. Write the number of solutions of the following pair of linear equations :

    x+2y-8=0 , 2x+4y=16

    Q6. Is the following pair of equations consistent? Justify your answer.

    2ax+by=a , 4ax+2by-2a=0 ; a , b not equal to zero .

    Q7. Do the equations 4x+3y-1=5 and 12x+9y=15 represent a pair of coincident lines?

    Q8. If x=a , y=b is the solution of the pair of equation x-y=2 and x+y =4, then find the value of a
    and b.

    Q9. On comparing the ratios a1/a2 , b1/b2 , and c1/c2 , find out whether the following pair of
    linear equations is consistent or inconsistent.

    (i) 5x-4y+8=0 , 7x+6y-9=0

    (ii) 9x+3y+12=0 , 18x+6y +24=0

    (iii) 6x-3y+10=0 , 2x -y+9=0

    Q10. Five years ago, Arun was thrice as old as Bimal and ten years laters Arun shall be twice as
    old as Bimal. What are the present ages of Arun and Bimal.

    Q11. Show graphically the given system of equations:

    2x+4y=10 , and 3x+6y=12 has no solution.

    Q12. Solve the following pair of equations by using both methods: substitution and Elimination
    3x-5y-4=0 , and 9x=2y+7

    Q13. Draw the graph of the equations x-y+1=0 and 3x+2y-12=0. Determine the co-ordinates of
    the vertices of the triangle formed by these lines and the x-axis, and shade the triangular region.

    Q14. Places A and B are 100 km apart on a highway.One car starts from A and another from B at
    the same time. If the cars travel in same direction at different speeds, they meet in 5 hours. If
    they travel towards each other, they meet in 1 hour.What are the speeds of two cars.

    Q15. Ritu can row downstream 20 km in 2 hours, and upstream 4km in 2 hours. Find her speed
    of rowing in still water and the speed of the current.

    Q16. The sum of a two digit number and the number formed by interchanging it's digits is 110. If
    10 is subtracted from the first number, the new number is 4 more than 5 times the sum of the
    digits in the first number. Find the number.

    Q17. Students in a class are made to stand in rows If one student is extra in each row, there
    would be 2 rows less. If one student is less in each row,there would be 3 rows more.Find the
    number of students in the class.

    Q18. A man travels 600 km partly by train and partly by car.If he covers 400 km by train and the
    rest by car, it takes him 6hrs and 30 minutes. But, if he travels 200 km by train and rest by the
    car he takes half an hour longer. Find the speed of the car and that of the train.

    Q19) 2 women and 5 men can together finish a piece of embroidery in 4 days, while 3 women
    and 6 men can finish it in 3 days. Find the time taken by 1 woman alone, and that taken by 1 man
    alone to finish the embroidery.

    Q20. The sum of the numerator and denominator of a fraction is 3 less than twice the
    denominator.If the numerator and denominator are decreased by 1, the numerator becomes half
    the denominator.Determine the fraction.
