    What is communication?
    Why do we communicate?
    Communication is a process of
    sharing and conveying messages or
    information from one person to
    another within and across
    channels, contexts, media, and
    cultures (McCornack, 2014).
    Communication is a means of
    sharing and exchanging messages,
    information, ideas, and feelings for
    mutual understanding (Gregoriom,
    J.C., 2015).
    Communication connects people and
    the world they live in by expressing
    their thoughts and ideas or conveying
    information and messages through
    word of mouth, gestures and signals,
    signs, and others.

    Nature of Communication
    Communication is a message
    understood.

    Communication is a social interaction


    through messages.
    1. Speaker – the source of
    information or message
    2. Message – the
    information, ideas, or
    thoughts conveyed by the
    speaker in words or in
    actions
    3. Encoding – the process
    of converting the message
    into words, actions, or
    other forms that the
    speaker understands
    4. Channel – the medium or
    the means, such as personal or
    non-personal, verbal or
    nonverbal,
    in which the encoded message
    is conveyed
    5. Decoding – the process of
    interpreting the encoded
    message of the speaker by the
    receiver
    6. Receiver – the recipient of
    the message, or someone who
    decodes the message
    7. Feedback – the reactions,
    responses, or information
    provided by the receiver
    8. Context – the environment
    where communication takes
    place
    9. Barrier – the factors that
    affect the flow of

    makes the process of
    communication evident
    in the situation.
    This quarantine period, only one person per household is allowed
    to go out to buy essential goods and pay bills. In our family, it is my
    dad since my mom can’t drive our car, nor ride my bicycle. Being
    the one in charge of our groceries has always been the task of my
    mom, so it is anticipated that Dad will find a hard time doing it. It is
    just too hilarious when mom asked him to buy an additional item
    over the phone and a totally different item was purchased. Mom
    and I burst into laughter while mocking dad. He claimed that the
    telephone line was choppy and the place was noisy since a lot of
    people were there. While looking at the item, we all laughed out
    loud including Dad who blushed a bit.
