The effect of bilingualism on creativity: Developmental and educational perspectives

Author : Mark Leikin

Publisher : International Journal of Bilingualism

In a journal, statistical analysis is the process of analyzing data that has been collected using statistical
methods. The purpose of statistical analysis is to evaluate the relationship between variables, test
hypotheses, and create a conclusion based on the evidence provided by the data. In academic journals,
statistical analysis is very important since it helps researchers assess their data objectively and generate
reliable conclusions. The relationship between statistical methodology and statistical analysis is very
strong. The statistical method is a tool or technique used in statistical analysis to analyze data and create
conclusions based on the information provided by the data.

In this Statistics for Linguistics and Literary Studies course report presentation, I focused on the linguistic
domain with a Journal Article entitled The effect of bilingualism on creativity: Developmental and
educational perspectives. The journal’s author is Mark Leikin. He is a professor at the Department of
Philosophy, Laboratory of Neurosciences and Philosophy, University of Haifa. Leikin has a benefit when it
comes to analyzing the effects of dual language instruction and bilingualism on the development of
creative thinking in solving non-mathematical and mathematical problems. The goal of this study is to look
at the impact of bilingualism on the development of creative thinking in early childhood.

This journal uses a quantitative approach because the study’s goal is to evaluate the impact of dual
language skills on children’s ability to learn in a structured and welcoming manner. With the application of
quantitative methods, authors can collect numerical data that can be analyzed statistically to support their
own research findings. In this journal, the descriptive mean method is used to compare the racial scores
of academic performance for students in preschool, first grade, and second grade. This method helps to
provide clear illustrations of children’s creativity levels based on numerical data collected in research
studies.

By application of creative thinking exercises and problem-solving techniques available for kids in
kindergarten, researchers get a lot of information from all research tools. An example of the research that
is being done in this journal to collect data for analysis includes two surveys conducted in the months of
June and July of 2009 and August and September of 2010 as well as the distribution of the Creating
Equal Number (CEN) task to kids in kindergarten. Also, a one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) is used
to analyze the differences between groups based on the length of the tail. The results of this study show
that there are differences that are significant in the creative thinking of young students in primary schools
based on bilingualism and the type of bilingual education that is implemented. Compared to bilingual
children from monolingual families, bilingual children from bilingual families show higher creative abilities.

The primary point from this journal entry is that bilingualism might impact children’s creative thinking skills
while solving problems in math and language. Comparing bilingual children with monolingual children,
bilingual children consistently show higher levels of creativity while solving problems. Difference between
individuals and groups also affects creativity while solving problems. In addition, the study’s findings show
that different types of creative abilities are needed for general and mathematical creativity. This study
gives significant information into possible benefits of bilingualism for building cognitive abilities, such as
creativity and difference in preschool-aged children.
