GAME-CHANGER
Nanotechnology promises to change the face of Indian roads. Under the
leadership of Ajay Ranka, Chairman and Managing Director, Vadodara-based
speciality chemicals player Zydex Industries has developed a silane
nanotechnology-based product, Zycotherm, for road construction that can resist
cracking under heavy traffic loads and cyclic weather. The company is using
nano-polymer and silane to make roads free of potholes and cracks, thanks to
their anti-strip property and enhanced resistance to moisture damage. “We at
Zydex Industries are nurturing a vision to develop ‘highway-like roads’ at the rural
and urban level,” said Ajay Ranka, adding that the company’s product Terrasil
ZycoBond combo with cement has reduced the aggregate requirement in the base
layers by 60 per cent on average, with improved performance.
ACHIEVER
Ponni M Concessao, a Chennai-based architect, has made history by becoming
the first woman architect in India to design a State Secretariat. The New
Telangana State Secretariat, which overlooks the Hussain Sagar Lake in
Telangana, is a 10 lakh sq ft building that houses modern facilities combined
with architectural marvels and absolutely stunning interiors. Three years ago, the
Telangana government invited designs from architects across the country. After
careful scrutiny, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao chose Ponni’s architectural
firm’s design and invited Ponni to design the new Secretariat. Despite the
challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Ponni and her husband Oscar G
Concessao, who also has more than 30 years of experience in the industry,
completed the project in just two years.
INNOVATOR
Hari Krishna Jeedipalli, Managing Director of Apsuja Infratech, a Hyderabad-
based construction company, joined forces with Simpliforge Creations, a 3D
printed construction company, to achieve a feat in architectural innovation, the
creation of the world’s first 3D printed place of worship. The 3D printed temple
resonates the pride of Telangana as it sets out to embark on an architectural
revolution in the nation. The three-part structure marvel, sprawling over an
impressive 3,800 sq ft, standing tall at about 30 ft is a unique architectural
wonder, a one-of-its-kind innovation being built in Telangana. The three
sanctums, or Garbhas within the structure represent a modak dedicated to Lord
Ganesha, a Shivalay, a square abode devoted to Lord Shankar, and a lotus
shaped home for Goddess Parvati. The structure is 3D printed by Simpliforge
with their in-house developed system and indigenously developed material and
software. This by far is the first 3D printed structure globally as a place of
worship at this massive scale.
