There are 10 questions, maximum mark is 80. Marks are indicated next to the problem number.
Calculators are not allowed. The booklet has 20 pages, the last 4 pages is scratch paper. Formula sheet
is provided separately from this booklet. Do not remove any pages from this booklet.

YOU MUST SHOW ALL WORK TO GET FULL CREDIT.

1
1. [8 marks] Find an equation of the plane that passes through point (0, 1, 1) and contains the line
x = 3 − t, y = 2 + t, z = 2t.

2
3
2. [8 marks] Find the length of the curve r(t) = 3t2 i + 3t j + 4t 2 k, 0 ≤ t ≤ 1.

3
3. [8 marks] Let r(t) = ⟨x(t), y(t), z(t)⟩, a ≤ t ≤ b, be a curve in R3 .

(3a) Explain the meaning of curvature κ(t) and torsion τ (t).

(3b) Give an example of a curve of constant curvature κ(t) = 1/2 (in other words, this means that the
curvature is the same at every point of the curve). What is the torsion of this curve?

(3c) Give an example of a curve with non-zero torsion.

4

4. [8 marks] Consider the function
4x
f (x, y, z) =
y+z
and a point P (8, 1, 3).

(4a) Compute ∇f at point P .

(4b) Find the directional derivative of f at point P in the direction v = ⟨ √13 , √13 , − √13 ⟩.

(4c) What is the maximum rate of change of f at point P and in which direction this maximum rate
of change is achieved?

6
5. [8 marks] Find the volume of the solid under the surface z = 1 + 2x2 y and above the region enclosed
by y = x2 and y = 4.

7
8
6. [8 marks] Evaluate the iterated integral
Z 2 Z 2z Z ln(x)
xe−y dy dx dz
1 0 0

9
7. [8 marks] Find the Jacobian of the transformation x = u2 + uv, y = uv 2 .

10
8. [8 marks] Use Green’s Theorem to evaluate the line integral

clockwise) orientation.

11
12
9. [8 marks] Consider the vector field F(x, y, z) = 2xy i + x2 j + z 2 k.

(9a) Calculate curl F.

(9b) Explain why this vector field F is conservative and find a function f (x, y, z) such that F = ∇f .

13
14
10. [8 marks] Consider the vector field F(x, y, z) = xy 2 i + yz 2 j + zx2 k.

(10a) Find the divergence of F.

(10b) Use the Divergence Theorem to find the flux of the vector field F across the unit sphere
