2. Arm Curl Test for upper body strength
3. Chair Sit and Reach Test for lower body flexibility
4. Back Scratch Test for upper body flexibility
5. Eight Foot Up and Go Test for Coordination and agility
6. Six Minute Walk Test for aerobic endurance
• Procedure: The subject sit on the edge a chair (placed against a wall for safety). One foot
must remain flat on the floor. The other leg is extended forward with the knee straight, heel
33
on the floor, and ankle bent at 90°.Place one hand on top of the other with tips of the
middle fingers even. Instruct the subject to inhale, and then as they exhale, reach forward
toward the toes by bending at the hip. Keep the back straight and head up. Keep the knee
straight, and hold the reach for two seconds. The distance is measured between the tip of
the fingertips and the toes. If the fingertips touch the toes then the score is zero. If they do
not touch, measure the distance between the fingers and the toes (a negative score). If they
overlap, measure by how much (a positive score). Perform two trials.
• Scoring: The score is noted down to the nearest ½ inch or 1 cm as the distance reached
either a negative or positive score.
Endurance— It is the ability of an individual to sustain movement over a period of time under
fatigue condition.

I. Continuous training method Interval training method
II. Fartlek training method (These Training methods are to be explained)
When all the forces acting on the body are counterbalance by equal and opposite forces so that the
sum of the forces equals zero. A state of equilibrium occurs when the bodies centre of gravity is
over its base of support and the line of gravity falls within the base.
Principles of stability--
34/OR I. The lower the centre of gravity is to the base of support, the greater the stability.
II. The nearer centre of gravity is to the centre of the base of support.
III. Stability can be increased by widening the base of support.
IV. By increasing the mass of the body.

of gravity.
Factors affecting Projectile Trajectory- Angle of Projection- Any object when projected at different
angles covers different distances. When it projected at 45 degree angle it covers more distance.
Projection height relevant to the landing surface
Initial velocity- The distance covered by an object depends on the initial velocity if the projectile. If
velocity is more the distance is more.
Gravity- The force of attraction exerted by the earth towards its centre on a body. The greater the wait,
the greater influence of gravity. The force of gravity acts on the object to stop its upward movement.
Air Resistance- Surface of the object
Surface to volume ratio, mass, speed.
Spin of object- The spin also affects the flight of an object.

purpose of this test is to measure cardiovascular fitness.
Equipments – Gym bench with 20 inches height for men and 16 inches for women, A
stop watch, Metronome or cadence tape.
Procedure – The athlete will stand in front of the bench or box. On the command
“GO” the athlete steps up and down on the bench or box at a rate of 30 steps per
minute ( One step up and second down) for ² minutes (150 steps). Stop watch is
switched on simultaneously at the start of stepping.. After that the athlete will sit-
down immediately after completion of the test. ( After ² minutes). The total no of
heartbeats are counted between 1 to 1.5 minutes. After completion of the last test. 2
more time heart beats will be counted after 2 minutes and 3 minutes for 30 seconds
duration.
Computation – Fitness Index score – (100 X Test duration in seconds) divided by (
2X sum of the heartbeats in recovery period)
Advantages _ Minimum equipments are needed, Minimal cost, Simple to set up and
conduct.

Oxygen Intake Oxygen Uptake
It depends upon size of the chest It depends on the rate of diffusion of oxygen
strength of respiratory muscles, into the blood which is for the determined by
long size number of active the speed of blood flow, blood temperature and
album releases etc. the partial pressure of oxygen in blood
20. Intrinsic motivation is within the individual and guides him to perform better. It is based
upon needs, interest, nature, emotions, social needs etc.
Sometimes extrinsic motivation may kill intrinsic motivation because the physical
appearance of something
i.e. reward or punishment has more influence on the mind of an athlete than his own desire
to succeed. Therefore, it is important to encourage students to achieve excellence rather
than rely on rewards and punishments only.
21. Fartlek is a Swedish term which means ‘speed play’ and has been used by distance runners
for years. It improves individual speed and endurance. It is a form of road running or cross
country running in which the runner usually changes the pace significantly during the run.
This method was introduced by O Astrand and Costa Halner. It is a combination of slow
and fast running on different terrains, covering hills etc.
22. During exercise the requirement of oxygen by the active muscle goes up by 10 to 12 times.
From 1200 ml/minute at rest, it can go up to 12500 ML / minute at maximum
exercise. Similarly the requirement of the skin causes from 500ml per minute to 1900 ml/
minute during maximal exercise.
Page 47 of 128 Physical Education Teachers Physical Education SQP Class-XII 2023-24
This increase can be accomplished through increased cardiac output and distribution of
blood from areas of the body like the Kidneys, abdomen and other areas.
For instance, at rest the blood flow through the Kidneys is 1100 ml/minute, which can be
reduced to 600 ml/minute during exercise. Similarly the blood flow at rest through the
abdomen is 1400 ml per minute, which can be reduced to 600 ml/minute during exercise.
23. Procedure:-If possible, the table height should be adjusted so that the subject is standing
comfortably in front of the discs.
The two yellow discs are placed with their centers 60 cm apart on the table. The
rectangle is placed equidistant between both discs.
The non-preferred hand is placed on the rectangle.
The subject moves the preferred hand back and forth between the discs over the
hand in the middle as quickly as possible.
This action is repeated for 25 full cycles (50 taps).
Scoring: - The time taken to complete 25 cycles is recorded
Or
Pre-Competition Diet:
Before the event, athletes should focus on consuming nutrient-rich foods to optimize
energy levels and endurance.
Carbohydrates should be the mainstay, providing a steady source of fuel for
muscles.
Lean proteins aid in muscle repair and recovery while also supporting immune
function.
Adequate hydration is crucial; athletes should aim to maintain optimal fluid levels.
During-Competition Diet:
Staying hydrated is paramount during sports activities to prevent performance
decline.
Easily digestible carbohydrates, like sports drinks and energy gels, help maintain
energy levels.
Some athletes may benefit from consuming small, easily digestible snacks during
prolonged events.
Post-Competition Diet:
After the competition, recovery is a top priority to replenish depleted nutrients and
repair muscles.
Consuming a combination of carbohydrates and proteins within the first 30 minutes
is vital for muscle glycogen restoration and repair.
Antioxidant-rich foods aid in reducing inflammation and supporting the immune
system.
Hydration continues to be essential, as athletes lose significant amounts of fluid during
intense activities.
SECTION-C
24. Inclusion in sports – It refers to the practice of creating an environment where everyone,

help athletes reach their potential.
28. Fracture
A fracture is a complete, partial break or cracks in a bone. There are many types of
fractures occurs
Four types of fracture
Simple Fracture: In this Fracture bone is broken at one place without any wound
Compound fractures: In this Fracture skin and muscles are also damage along with
fractures
Green stick Fractures: This kind of fracture occurs when a bone bends and cracks.
These fractures are generally seen in children because their bones are very soft and
delicate. Whenever there is any stress on the bone, it is bent.
Comminuted Fracture: When any bone is broken into three or more pieces.
Or
There are three main types of spine curvature disorders. These are:
Lordosis — Also called swayback, the spine of a person with lordosis curves significantly
inward at the lumber region of lower back.

Chair Stand Test – to measure leg strength and endurance Procedure – The subject is
advised to sit on the chair with arms crossed around the wrists and hands are kept close to
the chest. After this the subject stands completely and then reaches again the same sitting
position. This activity is repeated for 30 seconds.
Back Scratch Test – to measure range of motion of shoulder. Procedure – The subject is
advised to stand initially. After this one hand is placed behind the head and other arm is
bent behind the back. Test administrator helps in guiding the subject about the alignment
of the fingertips. If the tip of both index finger touches, then the score is awarded zero. In
case it is not touching the gap is measured and this is awarded as negative score. While
overlapping distance is given as positive score. Reading is taken twice and the best score is
awarded.

An object thrown into the space either horizontally or an acute angle under the action of
gravity is called a projectile. There are force which act on a projectile-gravitational force
and air resistance. Air resistance of an object varies greatly and it depends on the object’s
particular shape and the atmospheric conditions in which the object is released. The path
followed by a projectile is called trajectory.
1. Angle of projection:- An object which is projected at different angles covers different
distance. When it is projected or released at angle of 25 degree, making it a parabolic path
and coves lesser distance. When it is released at angle of 42 degree&45 degree, makes a
parabolic path and covers maximum distance. So the distance covered by an object - Shot
Put, Hammer, Javelin, Discus etc. depends on the angle of projection’
2. Projection height relevant to the landing surface:- If the projection height and landing
surface are equal the thing should be release/thrown at an angle of 42 degree to 45 degree
it cover maximum distance. If the level of landing surface is more than projection height
the angle shall be increased i.e. should be more than 45 degree. So thing are cover a
maximum distance. If the level of landing surface is less than projection height the angle
of projection should be decreased. I.e. should be less the 45 degree. The things are cover
maximum distance. So the distance of horizontal depends upon the relevancy of projection
height and landing surface.
3.Initial velocity:- The distance covered by on object depends on the initial velocity of the
projectile. If the initial velocity is more, the object covers maximum distance. And if the
initial velocity is less the object covers less distance.
4.Gravity:- It is the force of attraction exerted by the earth towards the object’s. A Leaner
object, if projected will have longer elevation in comparison to a light weight object with
the same force. Gravity affects a projectile as it decreases the height of the force of gravity
acts on the object to stop its upward movement and pulls it back to earth. Limiting vertical
component of the projectile.
5. Air Resistance

25 In psychology, aggression means to a range of behaviors that can result in both physical and
psychological harm to oneself, others or objects in the environment. This type of social
interaction centers on harming another individual either physically or mentally.
As a matter of fact , most of the persons view aggression as a negative psychological
characteristic, however some sports psychologists agree that aggression can enhance sports and
games comes out of frustration , which arises due to goal blockage
TYPES OF:
Hostile Aggressive Behavior
Hostile aggression is inflicting or causing harm whether it is physical or psychological on
someone else
Page 57 of 128 Physical Education Teachers Physical Education SQP Class-XII 2023-24
It can be referred as reactive aggression and can be accompanied by anger.
In hostile aggression , the main aim is to cause injury to other sportsperson
The intention is on causing pain and suffering
In simple words, hostile aggression is when the primary aim is to cause physical harm or injury
to the opponent.
An example, a bowler throwing a bouncer deliberately to distract the batman ‘ s concentration
Instrumental Aggression
o Instrumental aggression is displaying aggressive behavior in the pursuit of a non aggressive
goal.
o It is also known as channeled aggression and is not accompanied by anger; this type of
aggression comes in contact sports.
o In other words, instrumental aggression is the behavior that has the intent to hurt in order to
achieve money, praise or victory.
o For example, a rugby player using aggression to tackle his opponent to win the ball.
Assertive Behavior
Assertive behavior is different type of aggression / aggressive behavior.
This is defined as behavior that involves the use of legitimate physical or verbal force to achieve
one‘s purpose.
In assertive aggression or assertive behavior, the intention is to establish dominance rather than
to harm the opponent.
In fact, assertive behavior is related to four main criteria i.e., it is goal oriented , not intended to
harm anyone , uses legitimate force and does not break any rule of the game or sport.
Even when coaches say to their players to be aggressive they mean to say that they be assertive

TYPES OF FLEXIBILITY
PASSIVE FLEXIBILITY: Ability To Do Movements With Greater Distance With External Help.
ACTIVE FLEXIBILITY: Ability To Do Movement For A Longer Distance Without External Help.
STATIC FLEXIBILITY : is usually required by a sportsperson when he/she remain in static position,
like in diving, sitting, lying, and starting position in various sports
DYNAMIC FLEXIBILITY: is needed for doing movements with greater distance when an individual
is in motion
28 It is a cut in the skin, a common occurrence in sports. A laceration can occur following contact with a
sharp object, such as a piece of equipment or even a tooth, or from a blunt force, such as an elbow
during basketball.
• Lacerations are commonly seen in ice hockey, or from a blunt force, such as an elbow during
basketball, speed skating, fencing, skiing, and snowboarding.
• Symptoms
bleeding, and swelling, numbness or weakness if a nerve is damaged, or heavy bleeding if an
underlying artery is damaged.
Incision wounds are wounds that are usually longer than they are deep. They are caused by a sharp item
cutting or slashing into the skin, making a long laceration or cut. Often times these wounds are not very
deep, usually only damaging the skin. However, occasionally these types of wounds can be very deep,
cutting into muscle tissue, tendons, or major blood vessels. Damage to major blood
vessels can cause life-threatening bleeding

Equilibrium is generally defined as a state of rest, where there is no change. A body at equilibrium will
not experience any positive or negative energy transfers. OR
Equilibrium is defined as a state of balance or a stable situation, where opposite forces cancel each other
out and where no changes are occurring.
TYPES OF EQUILIBRIUM
1. Dynamic equilibrium: dynamic stability is a balance of the body during movement
2. Static equilibrium is the balance of the body during its rest or stationary position.
PRINCIPLES OF STABILITY (The broader the base, the greater the stability.)
2. The lower the Centre of gravity, the higher the stability.
3. When the body is free in air, if the head and feet move down then the hip moves up and vice versa.
4. Body weight is directly proportional to stability. 3
29 SECTION-D
A.Scurvy: Scurvy is a disease caused by an extreme vitamin C deficiency. While a diet low in vitamin
C can cause a deficiency, the condition usually doesn't reach the level of scurvy. To avoid any risk,
make sure to eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables with your diet.
B. Beriberi: Thiamine deficiency, or beriberi, refers to a lack of thiamine pyrophosphate, the
biologically active form of the vitamin known as thiamine (also spelled thiamin), or vitamin B- C.
Goiter: Iodine deficiency is the most common cause of goiter. The body needs iodine to produce thyroid
hormone. If you do not have enough iodine in your diet, the thyroid gets larger to try and capture all the
iodine it can, so it can make the right amount of thyroid hormone.
D. Kwashiorkor: Kwashiorkor is a disease marked by severe protein malnutrition and bilateral extremity
swelling. It usually affects infants and children, most often around the age of weaning through age 5.
The disease is seen in very severe cases of starvation and poverty-stricken regions worldwide.

32 SECTION – E
Exercise adherence is a combination of two words ‘exercise’ and ‘adherence’.
Exercise means any movement that makes your muscles work and requires to burn calories ,
whereas adherence means ‘to stick’
In fact, exercise adherence means to maintain an exercise regimen for prolonged period of time
following the initiate adoption phase.
Reasons to Exercise
1. Enhanced physical appearance : not only can exercise help you feel better , but it also helps us to
look better eas well .
2. Improved psychological and mental health : improved psychology / emotional health is also one
of the reasons to exercise . In fact , exercise has proven to provide a mood booster as it releases
chemicals like endornphorins help us to feel happier and can ease the effects of depression ,
ADHD and anxiety.
3. Feel more energized :- one of the reasons to exercise daily is that it gives us energy or we feel more
energized
4. Decreased risk of diseases : it is also a reason which makes us to exercise regularly
5. Controlling body weight is another reason to exercise.
6. For long term health : regular exercise can avert various cardiovascular diseases , diabetes
Strategies For Enhancing Adherence To Exercise
- Simple exercise in the beginning *Exercise in the Morning
- Concentrate only on Yourself *Set Appropriate Goal

33 FACTORS DETERMINING STRENGTH
1. Size of the muscles 2. Body weight
3. Muscle composition 4. Intensity of the nerve impulse
34 A simple machine was invented to make work easier by the use of a single applied force. Simple
machines are mechanical devices that change the direction or magnitude of a force. There are 6 simple
machines. The lever definition explains that it is a simple machine that consists of a bar that rotates
around a fulcrum, which is a fixed point. A seesaw, nail clippers, a hammer, a nutcracker, and pliers are
all examples of levers commonly found around the house and in our everyday lives. Levers are classified
using where the fulcrum is positioned in the system. They are classified as first-, second-, or third-class
levers.
CLASS 1 LEVERS are arranged so that the fulcrum is positioned between the load and effort. In this
class of levers, an effort is applied on one end to move the load located on the opposite end. In this type
of lever, a downward force is applied which results in the load moving upward. Therefore, in this lever,
the direction of the force changes. Changing the position of the fulcrum (remaining in the middle) can
affect the amount of force needed to move the object. Moving the fulcrum closer to the load will reduce
the amount of force needed to move the object. Class 1 levers have the fulcrum positioned between the
effort and load
Class 2 levers are arranged so that the load is positioned between the effort and fulcrum.
GRAVITY:- It is the force of attraction exerted by the earth towards the object’s. A
Leaner object, if projected will have longer elevation in companion to a light weight object with the
same force. Gravity affects a projectile as it decreases the height of the force of gravity acts on the
object to stop its upward movement and pulls it back to earth. Limiting vertical component of the
projectile.
SPIN:- The amount and direction of spin acting on a projectile will directly effect the distance
travelled or covered by a projectile. The main reason behind this fact is the air pressure acting on the
object.
- Upper air pressure is maximum on the object. - Lower air pressure is maximum on the object.

children The equipment’s required for this test include table of adjustable height. 2 yellow discs of
20 cm diameter each and stopwatch.
23 Rider's bending forward can be related to Newton's First Law of Motion It states that a body at rest
will remain at rest and a body in motion will remain in motion at the same speed and in the same
direction unless any external force is applied on it to change that state

SECTION-C
24 a) Passive Flexibility The exercises of passive flexibility refer to someone physically moving a part
of your body for you. This requires no effort on the part of the athlete. For instance, a therapist may
grasp your arm gently and move it in a circular motion. This may be also required in certain tests
conducted to measure the flexibility of the person being tested.
b) Active Flexibility The exercises of active flexibility are for people trying to increase or maintain
flexibility on their own. They require no assistance to perform simple movements, such as arm
circles or flexing of fingers

avoid this asana ii) During pregnancy and menstruation women should avoid it
Two other asanas which can be performed for obesity are Tadasana, Katichakrasana
27 i) Lungs volume increases due to increase in vital capacity, which results in greater inhale of O2.
ii) Breathing frequency is decreased in trained individuals, which means better absorption of O2.
iii) Maximum minute ventilation is increased after exercise, which means greater force of exchange
of gases. iv) Tidal volume (amount of air that moves in or out of lungs with each respiratory cycle)
is increased. vi) Physical exercises enhances ventilatory efficiency. v) Diffusion capacity (gas
exchange capacity in the lungs) is increased

32 Strength is an essential component of physical fitness. It means the capacity to withstand force or
pressure. Strength refers to the ability of a muscle to exert force or overcome resistance. Strength in
sports refers to muscular strength,
Types of Strength
Strength can be divided into the following types
a) Dynamic Strength This strength is also known as isotonic strength, as it is related to movements.
It is the strength in which an individual needs to sustain his body over a prolonged period of time or
to be able to apply some force against an object.
b) Static Strength This strength is also known as isometric strength. It is the ability of muscles to act
against resistance from one position.
c) Training Methods for Improving Strength There are three different methods of training to
develop or improve strength
Page 66 of 128 Physical Education Teachers Physical Education SQP Class-XII 2023-24
These arei) Isometric exercises ii) Isotonic exercises ii) isokinetic exercises
Common Mistake
Students may often make a mistake and confuse between different back problems which sound
similar for example, lordosis and kyphosis. Here, lordosis is the postural deformity.
33 Elivin Crimson is suffering from lordosis A person affected with an inward curvature of the spine is
said to be affected w lordosis. It is an increased forward curve in the lumber region. It creates
problems in standing and walking The causes of lordosis are
a) Spondylolisthesis is a spinal condition that affects the lower vertebrae (spinal bones) This disease
causes one of the lower vertebrae to sip forward on the bone directly beneath it.
b)People who are suffering from obesity are more susceptible to lordosis
c)Osteoporosis means weakening of the bones with age and also leads to lordosis Poor posture also
leads to lordosis d) Discitis, meaning an inflammation of the des between the spinal vertebrae, is
also one of the main causes of lordosis
The corrective measures for lordosis are
i) People who are suffering from lordosis can d medication to reduce pain and swelling
ii) Yoga is one of the most useful therapies to improve lordosis. The asanas useful in this condition
is Utkatasana (Chair Pose) & Naukasana (Boat Poses)
iii) Weight loss is also a good option to overcome this problem
iv) Perform sit-ups to get rid of this problem
v) Undertake exercises to control the positioning of the pelvic region
34 Eating disorders refer to taking very little calories due to which there is a deficiency in the body.
The deficiency can be essential nutrients or even lack of energy Eating disorder is related to mental
illness and affects a person's physical and mental health
The three disorders caused due to eating disorder are anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and
anaemia
These are discussed below-a) Anorexia Nervosa: It is a condition where a person
refuses to eat well and maintain normal body weight according to the height. This condition leads to
several other health issues including reduced bore density, damaged kidneys, and heart disorders
b)Bulimia Nervosa it is a condition in which an Individual binges on food, followed by methods to
avoid weight gain. It is a potentially life-threatening eating disorder.
c) Anaemia It is a condition which causes low red blood cells in the body. This is due to lack of
iron in the diet. Women athletes do vigorous exercises and if it is not followed by a healthy diet,
then it leads to anaemia. Other causes are excessive blood loss from menstruation or any disease.
Symptoms of iron deficiency anaemia include fatigue, muscle burning, shortness of breath during
exercise, nausea, and frequent infections
34/ A trainer can improve the cardiorespiratory system with the help of exercise in the following ways
OR a) Decrease in Rate of Respiration: When a beginner starts exercise, then his rate of respiration
increases. But when the same individual performs exercise daily, then his rate of respiration
decreases in comparison to the beginning stage at rest.
b) Lung Volume: For normal breathing at rest, lung expands and there is a change in air pressure.
During exercise, due to rapid movement of diaphragm and intercostal muscles, total area of lung
expands to accommodate more exchange of gases.
c) Lung Diffusion Capacity During exercise, the lung diffusion capacity increases in both trained
and untrained persons. However, trained athletes may increase their diffusion capacity 30% more
than that of an untrained person because athlete's lung surface area and red blood cell count is
higher than that of non-athletes.
d) Pulmonary Ventilation The amount of air passing through lungs each minute is called Pulmonary
Ventilation. The Pulmonary Ventilation (PV) is a product of Tidal Volume (TV and Respiratory
Rate (RR) and therefore, at rest it is around 8 l/min. During exercise time both TV and RR increase,
due to which PV will also increase depending on the intensity of exercise. For an ordinary person,
the value of PV may be 40-50 l/min and for well-trained athlete, it may be around 100 l/min.
c) Residual Air Volume It is the volume of air in the lungs which is left after exhalation. With
exercises, the residual air capacity increases which enhances efficiency of lungs.

becomes powerful . These tissues can bear stress of strenuous activity and can be extended
up to some degree . OF EXERCISES ON MUSCULAR SYSTEM
5-When we do regular exercise , some permanent changes take place in our muscular system .
These changes occur only when exercises are performed daily . If we do exercise only once , there
will be changes in our muscular system but only for a temporary phase . Following changes in our
muscular system can be seen if exercises are done on regular basis .
Change in Shape and Size of Muscle : Through regular exercise , the shape and size of muscle is
changed . In fact , cells of muscles are enlarged which change the shape and size of the muscle .
Formation of More Capillaries : When exercises are done , the colour of muscles is changed ,
because a number of new capillaries are formed for a better and efficient blood circulation .
Muscle Remains in Tone Position : When exercises are done on regular basis our muscles remain
in toned position . In fact , muscle remains under some degree of contraction . Muscle becomes firm
and maintains a slight , steady pull on the attachments .
Controls Extra Fat : Regular exercise controls the extra fat of the body . Exercises burn the extra
calories deposited in the form of fat .
Change in the Connective Tissue : The connective tissue , which connects fibres , becomes
powerful . These tissues can bear stress of strenuous activity and can be extended up to some
degree .
23 Advantages
1. It keeps the heart rate up allowing an athlete to get good cardiovascular endurance.
2. It is good for aerobic and anaerobic fitness. That is why it makes an athlete a better
sprinter and a better long-distance runner.
3. Due to the sprinting intervals, it makes the body versatile. 4. It is flexible in nature.
5. A number of athletes can take part in this training simultaneously.
6. In this training method no equipment is required. Hence , it can be organized without
any problem .
7. It can be easily adapted to the athlete's need.
23/OR 1-Oxygen uptake: (
The amount of oxygen which can be absorbed and consumed by the working muscles from the 1
blood is called oxygen uptake. The oxygen uptake depends on the rate of diffusion +
which is further determined by the speed of blood flow , temperature and partial pressure of oxygen 1
in the blood and of )
carbon dioxide in the muscle cell . The speed and amount of oxygen consumption also depends on
the number , size and metabolic capacity of the mitochondria and fortunately these can be
improved to a certain extent through training .
2. Stroke Volume Increases at Rest :
Regular exercise helps in increasing the stroke volume at rest . The stroke volume at rest remains
up to 50-70 ml / beat in untrained individuals , 70-90 ml / beat in trained individuals and 90-110
ml / beat in the best endurance athletes .

25 Types of Aggression in Sports These are the following.
1. Hostile Aggression : Hostile aggression is inflicting or causing harm whether it is physical or
psychological on someone else . It is sometimes referred as reactive aggression and can be
accompanied by anger . In hostile
aggression , the main aim is to cause injury to other sportsperson . The intention is on causing
pain and suffering . In simple words , hostile aggression is when the primary aim is to cause
physical harm or injury to your opponent . A good example of hostile aggressionis a bowler
throwing a bouncer deliberately to shake up the concentration of a batsman . Some cricketers
have deliberately done this in the past with the intent towards causing injury .
2. Instrumental Aggression : Instrumental aggression is displaying aggressive behaviour in the
pursuit of a non - aggressive goal . It is also known as channeled aggression and is not
accompanied by anger . This type of aggression comes in contact sports . In other words ,
instrumental aggression is behavior that has the intent to hurt in order to achieve money , praise
or victory . In case of instrumental aggression an athlete may intend to injure the opponent , but
the most important goal to be achieved by the aggressive act is to win the competition
For example , a rugby player using aggression to tackle his opponent to win the ball . Actually
the player is not using his aggression to hurt the opponent but rather to win the ball back .
3. Assertive Behavior : Assertive behavior is different type of aggression / aggressive behavior .
This is defined as behavior that involves the use of legitimate physical or verbal force to achieve
one's purpose . For example , sledging in cricket to cause psychological discomfort for the
batsman . For an act to be assertive it must be goal directed with no specific intention to harm
with the use of legitimate force with no rules broken . In assertive aggression or assertive
behavior , the intention is to establish dominance rather than to harm the opponent . Any physical
injury that may occur through assertive behavior is accidental and unintentional . In fact ,
assertive behavior is related to four main criteria i.e. , it is goal oriented , not intended to harm ,
uses only legitimate force and does not break any rule of the game or sport . Even when coaches
say to their players to be aggressive they mean to say that they be assertive .

26 Eating Disorders Most of the girls with female athlete triad try to lose their body weight as a
way to improve
their performance in the field of games and sports . In order to lose weight , they may practice
unhealthy weight - control methods , including restricted food intake , self - induced vomiting ,
consumption of appetite suppressants and diet pills and use of laxatives . Many girls deny their
eating disorders due to embarrassment , shame , fear of losing control of their dieting regimen and a
mistaken belief that excessive weight loss enhances sports performance . These eating disorders can
be fatal . There are following types of eating disorders .
1. Anorexia Nervosa : In this eating disorder , the female athletes think only about food , dieting
and body weight all the time . They have distorted body structure . Other individuals usually feel
them that they are becoming thin but they do not believe this . In front of the mirror they see
themselves as obese .
2. Bulimia Nervosa : It is also an eating disorder in which a female athlete eats excessive amount
of food and then vomits it in order not to gain weight . In this disorder , an individual binges on
food and feels a loss of control . Then
, to prevent weight gain , tries to vomit the food .
27 Methods to Improve Flexibility (
Flexibility can be improved or developed effectively with the help of following methods 1
1. Ballistic Method : In ballistic method , the movement is performed with a swing in a rhythmic +
way . The related joint is stretched with a swing . The stretching exercise can be performed 1
rhythmically with a count . At each count , the joint stretched to the maximum limit and then it is +
again flexed . Before performing such exercise , appropriate warm - up is essential because there 1
are maximum chances of over - stretching of a joint . )
2. Static Stretching Method : Static stretching method involves gradually easing into the stretch
position and holding the position . The amount of time a static stretch is held depends on one's
purpose . If it is a part of cool down
, then the stretch should be held for 10 seconds . If it is improve the range of flexibility then hold it
for 30 seconds
. In static stretching , it is advised to move further into the stretch position as the stretch sensation
comes to a lower level . 3. Dynamic Stretching Method : Dynamic
stretching consists of controlled leg and arm swings that take you gently to the limit of your range of
motion. If an
event requires a dynamic movement , it is appropriate to conduct dynamic stretching exercises . Start
with the movement at half speed for a couple of repetitions and then gradually work up to full speed .
28 Deaflympics:- (
Deaflympics is an International Olympic Committee- sanctioned sport in which deaf 1
competitors participate at the top level. +
Like other IOC-sanctioned competitions, Deaflympics can not be controlled by sounds. 2
There will be actually no partially blind-specific competitions in the Olympics, and the )
Deaflympics are also a significant way to raise money of the Deaf community and honor
the international Deaf community.
Spectators are often urged not to applaud or clap, but instead to use Deaf cheering by
shaking both hands.

28/OR Non - Nutritive Components of Diet (
Non - nutritive components of diet are those components that do not provide energy of calories . 1
Roughage or fiber , water , colours , flavours , pesticide residues , etc. , are among tens of thousands +
of non - nutritive components of diet or food . As a matter of fact , there are a lot of non - nutritive 2
components of diet that can be identified easily . However , there are also many non - nutritive )
components of diet that have been discovered recently .
1. Fiber or Roughage : Fibre or roughage has no nutrient value . Hence , it is included in the non -
Page 80 of 128 Physical Education Teachers Physical Education SQP Class-XII 2023-24
nutritive components of diet . It is the undigested part of the food or it can be said that it cannot be
digested by the human intestinal tract . It consists of water and improves intestinal function by
adding bulk to food . It satisfies the appetite . It helps to correct the disorders of large intestine . It
prevents constipation . Roughage or fiber can be divided into two categories , i.e. , soluble and
insoluble fibers . Soluble fibers can dissolve in water , whereas , insoluble fiber can't . The soluble
fibre reduces blood sugar
fluctuation and lowers cholesterol .
2. Colour Compounds : Food or diet is made more appetizing and attractive by the wide reflection
of colors made possible through pigments . Natural pigments are found in fruits and vegetables .
The colors derived from animal products and grains are less bright . There are various colours
derived from fruits and vegetables such as red , orange , yellow , green , blue and cream .
3. Flavour Compounds : Flavors are derived from both nutritive and non - nutritive components
of food . Sometimes it becomes very difficult to know the source of a specific flavor . An acidic
food provides sour taste while an alkaline one provides a bitter taste .
4. Plant Compounds : In addition to colour compounds and flavor compounds , there are some
plants which contain other non - nutritive substances . When these substances are ingested they
may have beneficial or harmful effects .

33 Talent Identification in Sports (
Talent identification refers to the process of recognising current participants with the potential to 5
become elite players . It entails predicting performance over time by measuring physical , )
physiological , psychological and sociological attributes as well as technical abilities , either in
isolation or in combination . As per other studies , talent identification in sport is a process in which
individuals who are more likely to prosper in a given sport are identified according to the test of
specific factors . Hadavi and Burns defined talent identification as a means of harnessing sporting
talent to bring about future success in international arena .
Page 81 of 128 Physical Education Teachers Physical Education SQP Class-XII 2023-24
Talent Development in Sports Talent development in sports is the most important stage in the
process of achieving sporting success . It is aimed at providing the most optimal learning
environment to help promising youth athletes realise their potential . Optimum environment involves
provision of adequate number of competent coaches , experts and managers , adequate and
availability of quality facilities and equipment for training and testing as well as time for training ,
actual training and practice that are directed towards enhancing athletes ' development . Availability
of these essential resources can significantly influence the ability to engage in the required amount of
high quality training . It is recommended that these resources be allocated to help identify and
develop talent to enable athletes to reach the top in their sport .
34 Endurance :Endurance is the ability to sustain an activity. Barrow and McGee, define endurance as (
the result of a physiological capacity of the individual to sustain movement over a period of time. 5
Here also define Endurance as the ability to resist fatigue. In all sports activities, endurance is )
directly or indirectly of high importance. It is usually measured by the number of repetitions.
For example, the number of sit-ups an individual can complete in one minute is often used to
measure the endurance of the stomach muscle.
The types of endurance can be studied under the following heads.
1 Types of Endurance According to the Nature of Activity According to the nature of activity,
endurance can be divided into the following types.
(a) Basic Endurance: Basic endurance is also called aerobic endurance because
It depends mainly on aerobic endurance. In fact, basic endurance is the ability to perform movements
in which large number of body muscles are involved and the activity (movements) is performed at a
slow pace for a long duration such as jogging, walking, slow running and swimming at moderate
speed for more than 30 minutes. Basic endurance form the basis of all type endurance. (b)General
endurance
General endurance is the ability to resist fatigue satisfactorily caused by different types of activities.
These activities may be for a longer duration. However, this duration is much shorter than required
for aerobic or anaerobic in nature. These activities may be of low or high intensity but basic
endurance activity. In other words, it can be said that general endurance enables a sportsperson to
perform different types of activities for a long duration without getting tired.
(c) Specific Endurance: Specific endurance is the ability to resist fatigue caused by a specific or
particular sports activity. As the nature of fatigue is different for different sports , the specific
endurance is also different , respectively . For example, specific endurance of a wrestler is to combat
effectively in the three rounds or six minutes, whereas it is of four rounds for a boxer.
2. Types of Endurance According to the Duration of Activity
According to the duration of sports , endurance can be divided into the following types .
( a ) Speed Endurance : Speed endurance is the ability to resist fatigue in activities lasting up to 45
seconds . The event of 400 m sprint is the most suitable example of speed endurance . Speed
endurance is mainly dependent on the power and capacity of energy production.
( b ) Short Term Endurance : Short term endurance is needed to resist fatigue in sports activities
lasting from about 45 seconds to 2 minutes . This endurance also depends to a large extent on
strength and speed endurance. . The endurance needed for 800 m race is the most

SECTION-B
1. Increase in Muscle Temperature- Muscles are very inefficient and much of the energy we use
to contract them is lost as heat. However, the increase in muscle temperature (between one to two
degrees during an exercise enables your muscles to be more flexible.
2. Muscle Size-Although muscle size (and other physical characteristics such as height) is largely
determined by a person's genes, muscle size also gets affected by the intensity of exercises. For
19 example, in weightlifting, the diameter of the muscle’s increases.
3. Increase in Lactate Threshold- Exercise increases the ability of the muscles to tolerate lactic
acid. This increases endurance as the working capacity of the muscles rises due to delayed
tiredness and fatigue.
4. Muscle Coordination-Frequent exercise and special use of specific muscles for the same of
similar skilled tasks, like dribbling a ball in a game of football, leads to improved coordination.
The coordination of nerves to the skeletal muscle also improves.
20. TEST AND MEASUREMENT
Tests are used to collect information or data about a specific skill, strength, endurance,
knowledge, behaviour, attitude.
Measurement – are related to physical measurement such as size, height, weight, vital capacity,
achievements, etc.

26. Eating Disorders (Energy Deficit)- It refers to taking very little calories due to which there is
deficiency in the body. The deficiency can be of essential nutrients or even lack of energy. Eating
disorder is related to mental illness and affects a person's physical and mental health. To improve
athletic performance, most of the female athletes try to lose weight. For this purpose, they do not
eat enough food containing fat and particularly iron, which leads to serious disorders like anorexia
nervosa, bulimia nervosa, anaemia, etc. These are as follows
1. Anorexia Nervosa - It is a condition where a person refuses to eat well and maintain normal
body weight according to the height. In this disorder, the female athletes contin- uously think
about dieting, food and body weight. This condition leads to a number of health problems like
reduced bone density, damaged kidneys, heart disorders, etc.
2. Anaemia- It is a condition which causes low red blood cells in the body. This is due to lack of
iron in the diet. Women athletes do vigorous exercises and if it is not followed by a healthy diet,
then it leads to anaemia. Other causes are excessive blood loss from menstruation or any disease.
Symptoms of iron-deficiency anaemia include fatigue, muscle burning, shortness of breath during
exercise, nausea, frequent infections, etc.
27. Friction is a force that opposes the motion between two surfaces that are in touch. Friction
always works in the direction opposite from the direction the object is moving or trying to move.
Types of Friction-
a.Static friction b.Kinetic friction(Sliding friction& Rolling friction)
28 motivation is a process of inspiring, guiding the organism to move in a particular direction.
Types-Intrinsic is also referred as internal motivation which drives an individual from within to
naturally pursue actions that provide fun, pleasure, fulfilment or challenge
Extrinsic motivation is that in which the source of satisfaction does not come from within and the
behaviour is not due to natural urges or impulses.

Fracture-Fracture is defined as a loss of continuity in the substance of a bone. It is simply a break
in the bone. It commonly happens because of accident, fall, or sport injuries. It is classified into
different types, which are discussed below
32
1. Greenstick Fracture- A greenstick fracture occurs when a bone bends and cracks, instead of
breaking completely into separate pieces. Most greenstick fractures occur in children younger
than 10 years of age. This type of broken bone most commonly occurs in children because their
bones are softer and more flexible than are the bones of adults.
2. Comminuted Fracture-It is a break or splinter of the bone into more than two fragments. Since
considerable force and energy is required to fragment bone, fractures of this kind occurs after
high-impact trauma such as vehicular accidents. This type of fracture is usually challenging to
freat because the breacke is so complex.
3. Transverse Fracture- It is a fracture where the bone breaks at a right angle to the long axis of the
bone. Transverse fractures most often occur as the result of strong force applied perpendicular to
the long axis of a bone.
4. Oblique Fracture-An oblique fracture is characterized by a break that is curved or at an angle to
the bone. A sharp blow that comes from an angle (i.e., above or below) may cause oblique
fractures.
5. Impacted Fracture- An impacted fracture is one whose ends are driven into each other. This
commonly occurs with arm fractures in children and is sometimes known as a buckle fracture.

of strength - Dynamic and static strength.
The following mention methods are used to improve strength:
i. Isometric Exercise: The word Isometric is comprised of 2 words “Iso”, “same” and “metric”,
“length”. This means, when we do these exercises, work done cannot be observed. This exercise requires
less time and equipment and can be carried out anywhere. These exercises are useful for maintaining
strength in case of injury.
Eg. Archery, Weight lifting, Gymnastic are examples of Isometric movements.
Work done = Force × Distance moved
but distance moved is 0, therefore work done is zero.
ii. Isotonic Exercises:- “Iso” Means ‘same’ and ‘tonic’ means tone.
In these types of exercise when we do movements it can be observed directly. The length of muscles can
be seen and called eccentric contraction and concentric contraction accordingly. Example When we
throw a ball, jump, run, weight training, these type of contraction occurs. These types of exercise are
widely seen in games and sports. We can do this exercise with equipment or without equipment. These
increase the length of the muscles and are good for conditioning in sports.
iii. Iso-Kinetic Exercises:- “Iso” - ‘Same’ “and’ kinetic - motion’. These exercises were introduced by
J.J. Perrine in 1968. These exercises are done by a special design machine and are a combination of
Isotonic and Isometric exercises. These exercises develop the strength of muscles. These types of
movements are usually not applied in games and sports except water sports, skating, climbing, running,
etc.
