PowerProtect Data Manager Upgrade- Participant Guide
Upgrading PowerProtect Data Manager from version 19.1 to 19.8 requires you to
first upgrade PowerProtect Data Manager to 19.2 or 19.3. Then upgrade from 19.2
or 19.3 to version 19.8.
From To
SupportAssist securely sends the data that is required for troubleshooting an issue
to Technical Support for diagnostic purposes and Customer Support.
If you have configured Secure Remote Services previously1, the PowerProtect Data
Manager system automatically migrates Secure Remote Services to SupportAssist
when you upgrade PowerProtect Data Manager.
1If Secure Remote Services is not configured, the you can configure SupportAssist
directly. For more information, go to Dell EMC Customer Support Site.
The PowerProtect Data Manager upgrade process requires the PowerProtect Data
Manager to be placed in the maintenance mode during the upgrade.
During the PowerProtect Data Manager upgrade operation2, the upgrade process
automatically stops most running jobs. T
This will place the PowerProtect Data Manager system into the maintenance mode,
and creates a snapshot of the system.
You can check if the PowerProtect Data Manager system is ready to upgrade by
running a manual precheck.
The PowerProtect Data Manager 19.8 upgrade package can upgrade one or more
of the following:
Administrator Credentials
Protection Policies
Disable all Protection Policies that are scheduled to run by PowerProtect Data
Manager. Ensure that there are no tasks running.
If you have not configured the Dell Secure Remote Services download the upgrade
package from the support site. The PowerProtect Data Manager upgrade package
can be downloaded from the Dell Technology support website and is bundled as a
.pkg file.
The following steps outline the procedures to upgrade the PowerProtect Data
Manager 19.6 to the PowerProtect Data Manager 19.8:
Step One
Download the PowerProtect Data Manager upgrade package (.pkg file) from Dell
Technology support website.
Log in to the PowerProtect Data Manager and verify the current version that is
installed is PowerProtect Data Manager 19.6.0-7.
Step Two
From PowerProtect Data Manager Dashboard, click Upgrade from the System
Settings drop-down menu.
Step Three
Click Upload Package to upload the upgrade package. Then select the
PowerProtect Data Manager upgrade package (.pkg file) and click Open.

Wait until the status on the Package State says Available then click the Precheck
icon. This checks to see if the PowerProtect Data Manager is ready to upgrade.
Review the Precheck message and verify that the Precheck has passed before
proceeding with the upgrade.

Review the upgrade information and click YES to proceed with the upgrade action.

Once the upgrade is complete, you are directed to the PowerProtect Data Manager
login screen.
Step Ten
Verify the PowerProtect Data Manager has been upgraded to version 19.8.0-1.
Step Eleven
Click the Upgrade option from the System Settings drop-down menu. The
Current Version displays 19.8.0-1, and the Packages State displays Installed.
Click the Save Progress and Exit button in the course menu or below
to record this content as complete.
