I. INTRODUCTION
Background of the Study
Around the world, education has been widely regarded as the cornerstone of any

society's efforts to strengthen its human resource base (Al-Shuaibi,2014). Parenting is a

fundamental of a child's development, however many families here in the Philippines does

not have access to parenting educational content in which generations to generations mistakes

are just repeating. Inability to make firm decisions about when and how many children to

have, it is referred as poor family planning resulting to socioeconomic limitations and

inadequate education about reproductive health. Prata (2007) studied that voluntary family

planning is a useful method of regulating reproduction within the parameters of human rights.

Parenting can be a difficult path, and being able to navigate its ups and downs can be

greatly aided by having access to a supportive group. Several scholarly investigations have

emphasized the significance of social assistance for parents in diverse domains of their

existence, including psychological welfare, stress mitigation, and parenting methodologies

(Respler-Herman et al., 2011). In addition to that, the only job in the world where we are

expected to become experts without any prior experience is being a parent (Bright Horizons,

2021). Having a social support in parenting is beneficial, especially if you’re a first time

parent, more over it also increases the chances of raising up a positive attitude of the cild as

they learn to communicate as early as they are immersed.

Parenting and Family Education application provides users with crucial and helpful

information related to parenting, including child development, health and nutrition,

education, behavior management, and such. Some key terms and concepts are community

support, personalization, content aggregation, user interface, expert advice, and education

resources. Shaped by rapid technological advancement, parenting, and early childhood

education continue to evolve. Different from the way they grew up, parents today is faced

3
with unique problems. That is preparing their children to safely grow up and navigate the

digital world. Trends like digital literacy, emotional intelligence development, eco-conscious

parenting, personalization, and community-based and collaborative parenting approaches are

at the forefront. Expanding the alternatives for service delivery, online parenting programs

present a chance to reduce the barriers to intervention access. (Holtrop et al., 2023)

Statement of the Problem

Problem: Parents, face challenges in managing their children's emotional health, particularly

dealing with tantrums. The lack of knowledge and resources on effective parenting strategies

for behavior and emotional health can lead to increased stress and frustration for both parents

and children.

Impact: Inadequate support for parents in handling children's tantrums can result in negative

outcomes such as strained parent-child relationships, increased emotional distress, and

potential long-term behavioral issues for the child. This can contribute to a cycle of

ineffective parenting practices and emotional instability within the family.

Solution: The Momhood app can address this issue by providing educational content and

resources specifically focused on behavior management and emotional health. By offering

guidance on understanding and effectively dealing with tantrums, the app can encourage

parents with the knowledge and skills needed to challenging behaviors in a positive and

constructive manner. Additionally, the app can provide tips, strategies, and support networks

to help parents enhance their emotional well-being and create a harmonious family

environment.

Problem: Limited parental education and involvement, particularly among low-income

families, can lead to various challenges in child development. Parents who lack sufficient

education may struggle to provide adequate support for their children's personal growth and

behavior. Additionally, the strain of single parenthood, limited finances, and the

4
unavailability of proper resources can lead to inadequate supervision of children before and

after school.

Impact: When parents lack education, their ability to provide a nurturing and stimulating

environment for their children may be compromised. This can lead to several negative

outcomes for the children:

Educational attainment: Children may struggle academically due to a lack of support with

homework, limited exposure to educational activities, and a less conducive home

environment for learning.

Behavioral problems: Without proper guidance and discipline, children may exhibit

behavioral issues such as aggression, disobedience, or poor impulse control.

Emotional development: Children may experience emotional challenges due to a lack of

parental support and understanding. This could manifest as low self-esteem, anxiety, or

difficulties in forming healthy relationships.

Limited opportunities: Children from low-income families with parents lacking education

may face barriers to accessing extracurricular activities, educational resources, and

opportunities for personal growth.

Solution: To address these challenges, a "Momhood" app could offer a range of educational

content and parenting resources to the needs of parents with limited education. Here's how

the app could help:

Basic parenting tips: The app could provide easy-to-understand guidance on topics such as

effective communication with children, setting boundaries, and fostering positive behavior.

Pregnancy Education for Parents: Momhood can provide expectant parents with essential

information about prenatal care, healthy lifestyle choices during pregnancy, and preparing for

5
childbirth. This includes guidance on nutrition, exercise, prenatal appointments, and coping

with common pregnancy discomforts.

Community support: The app could facilitate peer support networks where parents can

connect with others facing similar challenges, share experiences, and exchange advice.

Understanding Family Roles and Relationships: Momhood can offer educational materials

that explore different family roles, such as parent-child relationships, sibling dynamics, and

the roles of extended family members. This can help parents recognize the unique dynamics

within their own family and understand how these dynamics influence interactions and

communication.

Understanding Adolescent Development: Momhood can offer educational materials that

explain the physical, cognitive, and emotional changes that occur during adolescence. By

understanding the developmental milestones and challenges of this stage, parents can better

support their teenagers' growth and well-being.

Positive Discipline Techniques: Momhood can provide guidance on positive discipline

techniques for toddlers, emphasizing gentle and effective strategies for managing behavior.

This includes methods such as redirection, setting limits, providing choices, and using

positive reinforcement to encourage desired behaviors.

In the Philippines, many parents encounter significant challenges due to the absence

of accessible and comprehensive parenting education resources. From understanding child

development milestones to navigating everyday parenting dilemmas, families often struggle

to access the knowledge and support needed to foster healthy and nurturing environments for

their children. This lack of guidance not only hampers parents' ability to make informed

decisions but also perpetuates cycles of uncertainty and trial-and-error in parenting practices.

6
To address these challenges, there is a pressing need for a comprehensive and freely

accessible parenting education application tailored to the needs of Filipino families. Such an

application would provide a wide range of resources covering essential topics such as child

development, health and nutrition, education strategies, behavior management techniques,

and digital literacy skills.

Moreover, this application would serve as a platform for parents to engage in

discussions, share insights, and seek advice from a supportive community of fellow parents.

By fostering a sense of camaraderie and mutual support, the application would empower

parents to navigate the complexities of parenthood with confidence and resilience.
