II. Assessment
Introduction:

Stacking Cones are used for people who experienced accidents or injuries/deformities in the upper extremities. These
are impact-resistant and ideal for upper extremity rehab and evaluation, occupational therapy, hand and finger
exercise and dexterity, reaching and grasping, hand-eye coordination, color identification, and perceptual training. .

Preparation:

• Prepare all the cones for the activity

• Instruct the patient of the said activity. (What he will do, must do, and what he can do.)
• Let the patient sit comfortably or stand depending on your preference.

Assessment Proper

• The Physical Therapist will hold the cones above the chest level and will assist the patient.
• The patient will try to reach one cone, one at a time that is being held by the therapist and try to stack it
on the table.
• During the test, we will set the time for 2 minutes to see how many cones she/he can perform during the
said activity.
• Perform three sets with each hand and record the cones lifted and the time duration of each.

Note: Do not force the patient to do the activity if he/she feels discomfort or pain.

Performance measuring Values

Number of cones Description
0 (zero) None. The patient couldn’t
perform any activity.

1-10 Needs improvement. The patient

was able to manage a cup or two
and does need more guidance for
improvement.
20-30 GOOD. The patient is having
improvements on the activity.
50 and above VERY GOOD. The patient can
successfully perform the stacking
of cones.
