subgenres of the epic poem

The epic poem is a medieval epic poem, of a popular and anonymous nature,
composed to exalt the deeds of a historical figure, who thus becomes a legendary
hero.

romance subgenres

epic subgenre written in verse. Primitive romances were fragments of epic poems.
They were sung by minstrels, and the most popular fragments were transmitted
orally until someone wrote them down. The romances are octosyllabic because
people confused the pause in the middle of the verse with the end of the verse,
and they have assonant rhyme in the even verses because in the epic songs the
rhyme was in the second hemistich.

It is a reflective and meditative poem. Tends to exalt and praise a topic or issue.
Well-known examples are the Ode to Retired Life by Fray Luis de León and the
Ode to the Onion by Pablo Neruda.

It is a very exalted song (religious, national or patriotic).

recitatives. There are many examples. In the 19th century, in Italy, La Traviata and
Rigoletto, among others, were written by Giuseppe Verdi.

It is a form of theatrical music or stage musical genre that emerged in Spain with
instrumental parts and vocal parts.

It is a comedy sketch that presents a very simple action in a series of short realistic
scenes.

It is a piece of religious theater, more specifically a kind of liturgical drama , with


an allegorical structure and usually in one act.
