The epic poem is a medieval epic poem, of a popular and anonymous nature,
composed to exalt the deeds of a historical figure, who thus becomes a legendary
hero.
romance subgenres
epic subgenre written in verse. Primitive romances were fragments of epic poems.
They were sung by minstrels, and the most popular fragments were transmitted
orally until someone wrote them down. The romances are octosyllabic because
people confused the pause in the middle of the verse with the end of the verse,
and they have assonant rhyme in the even verses because in the epic songs the
rhyme was in the second hemistich.

It is a form of theatrical music or stage musical genre that emerged in Spain with
instrumental parts and vocal parts.
