OPTION 1

Good Afternoon,

Thank you for providing the requested information.

Based on your completed resume template, I am pleased to confirm your eligibility for the
Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) with Preliminary review.

Your eligibility is based on you holding a degree or an RICS approved professional designation and
more than 5 years of experience.

The APC is the assessment that allows you to gain full chartership with the RICS and MRICS
designation on successful completion.

You can review the benefits of RICS Membership via the link below:

https://www.rics.org/uk/surveying-profession/join-rics/benefits-of-rics-membership/.

Below is a brief breakdown of the route process:

• No Structured training required

• Attend Preliminary Workshop (Online)
• Complete Summary of Experience 5,500 words (Mandatory Competencies 1,500,
Technical 4,000) and Case Study 3000 words.
• 48 hours of CPD.
• Submit for Preliminary Review – this means we will review the above submissions for
you and inform you if you are eligible to come forward for interview or not. If you are
not ready, we will provide you with a report that states the reasons why you are not
eligible. At this point you can edit your submissions and resubmit.
• Attend Final Assessment Workshop (Online)
• Come Forward for Final Interview.

This assessment route typically takes 12 – 18 months to complete but can be achieved sooner.

With the preliminary review route, you will be able to take two workshops to assist you through
your APC and your written documentation will be reviewed by an RICS assessor, who will then
confirm if you are then ready to attend the final assessment interview.

APC submissions are completed through an online system called the Assessment Recourse Centre
(ARC).

All documents, templates and guides can be found through ARC however, your final assessment is
completed via a formal interview.

Regarding your counsellor, you are required to have a counsellor to support you throughout your
assessment period.

You do not need to provide us with this information at the point of enrolment.
This is because the minimal amount of input your counsellor is required to have whilst you
undergoing your assessment is to sign off your submissions confirming that you work has been
produced by you before you come forward for final assessment (interview).

Unfortunately, the RICS cannot nominate a counsellor for you, however you can use the RICS
website to help you appoint a counsellor.

Below is a link to our networking events, you could attend one of our events (some are free) to liaise
with our members:

https://www.rics.org/uk/training-events/.

You can also explore the 'find a surveyor' section of our website, which will shortlist RICS regulated
firms, for a firm to be regulated half of the firm's partners must be RICS members:

https://www.ricsfirms.com/.

Through the candidate section of the RICS website you will find the APC Mentor list, which is a
voluntary scheme ran by our members to act as secondary support to candidates in the UK. You can
contact members of this list to see if they are willing to act as your counsellor:

https://www.rics.org/uk/surveying-profession/global-professional-network/candidate/.

Please note: it is beneficial to anyone of our members to act as a candidate's counsellor as it counts
towards their CPD hours which they are required to produce every year.

Below are the submission dates of the APC Preliminary Review – your interview will take place after
your Preliminary review which is normally 3 months after submission:

You will need to choose a suitable pathway as part of your assessment, your choice should be based
on your current role and experience.

Pathways guides can be reviewed here:

https://www.rics.org/uk/surveying-profession/join-rics/sector-pathways/.

All enrolments are done online, the application process should take no longer than ten minutes as
long as you have proof of your qualification to hand and you are able to sign the declaration form.

(if you are unable to agree to the RICS declaration form please continue with the application and
provide full details of what it is you would like to declare, your case will then go to our Regulations
team for investigation)
