Art Activities For Children
Stamp
Cut a potato in half and with the tip of a knife, make a star-shaped stamp , square do,
circle or whatever you want. Use finger paint to have children stamp borders or decorate
colored paper with their stamp. Sponges also leave beautiful patterns when used for
stamping. Little fingers or your entire hand dipped in finger paint transform into treetops
or flower petals when used as a tampon.
2. Draw a feeling
This game is very funny. Hide a comb, pencil, banana or ball in a bag . The child has to
touch the object but not see it. Then, you ask him to draw what he felt. As important as
what you draw is what you tell about the experience.
3. Make silhouettes with parts of your body
This game can be done with one or two children, but it is more fun when there are several
of different ages. Ask the children to place their hands and then their feet on a piece of
cardboard. Draw a line around it and cut out the silhouettes. Put them together and ask
the children to find theirs by overlapping them on their hands and feet.
4. Paint textures
Pasta in the shape of stars, noodles, lentils, sugar or coarse salt will help you achieve the
texture. Delineate areas on white cardboard and cover with glue. Ask the children to cover
the parts of the drawing with this material. Let it dry and the next day, you can paint it
with finger paint.
5. Shading with waxes
Place thin objects - coins, leaves, cards... - under one or more sheets of blank paper. Tape
the paper on the table. The child has to paint over it with wax and guess what is under the
paper.
6. Paint with string
This activity can get quite messy. Cover the table with newspaper and dress the child in an
old T-shirt. Fold several white sheets of paper in half and fill some bowls with different
colored paint. Give the child a piece of string and tell him to dip it in paint and let it fall
onto the sheet of paper in loops. Then, the paper is folded in the marked half so that the
rope is printed on both sides and carefully lifted. The operation is repeated with the other
colors. If the child is very young, it is advisable to use only one color at a time to make it
easier for them.
7. Paint with a straw
Dilute paint in water and drop a drop on a piece of paper. With the help of a straw, the
child must move the paint forming strange shapes. The operation is repeated with several
colors. The result can be used to cover objects, make frames or serve as a background for
other work.
8. Spray painting
9.Fireworks
Get ready to do this fun activity with salt, white glue and colored watercolors. Place black
cardboard on a tray to prevent salt from spilling in all directions. Draw the design you
want with white glue. Next, sprinkle salt on the glue before it dries. Leave everything
covered. Remove excess salt by shaking it on the tray. With wet watercolors, lightly paint
over the salt. Another option is to use food coloring placed on top of the salt with a
dropper. Let it dry and you will get a fantastic relief drawing.
An option for your children to create their own paintings is to do so with materials other
than brushes. You can use your hands, fingers or homemade materials such as, for
example, cardboard rolls cut into fringes . Place some paint on different plates and let the
children make their own creations by moving the cardboard fringes on a black cardstock.
To avoid mixing colors, use one of your homemade brushes for each color of paint that
the children are going to use.
We propose an art game that children will love. It's about creating with blows . To do it
best, choose a large or outdoor space. Spread a large sheet of white paper on the floor.
Fill it with different colored gobs and cover each of them with a cotton pad. The only thing
left to do is give the children some object with which they can press the cotton balls so
that the paint shoots out in all directions. A creative game that everyone will want to
participate in.
A fun game to teach children how they can make engravings and stamps with objects. To
do this you need a tray that you find in the supermarket to package fruits, vegetables or
meats. Wash well and, once dry, reuse the base. What we will have to do is draw with a
punch what we want to be stamped on a blank sheet of paper. Then with a roller, thick
brushes and paint, color as you prefer. While still wet, press so that your engraving is
stamped on the white paper.
Painting with soap bubbles can become a fun and creative art game. To do it, use the
pompoms that your children have at home , some rods or sticks to move paint, different
colored tempera, paper and a bowl to mix everything. In a small bowl, put some of the
bubble making liquid mixed with paint or dye. Beat well before using. Use a blank piece of
paper to make your fun colored bubbles. It is advisable to do it in an open or large space
because the bubbles can fly out and release small drops of paint.
