1. in the figure, the hanging object has a mass of m1 =1 kg; the sliding block has a mass of m2 = 2
kg and the pulley is a hollow cylinder with a mass of M = 0.5 kg, an inner radius of R1 = 5cm,
and an outer radius of R2 =10cm. Assume the mass of the spokes is negligible. The coefficient
of kinetic friction between the block and the horizontal surface is 𝜇 𝑘 =0.250. The pulley turns
without friction on its axle. The light cord does not stretch and does not slip on the pulley. The
block has a velocity of vi = 0.820 m/s toward the pulley when it passes a reference point on the ta-
ble. Use energy methods to predict its speed after it has moved to a second point, 0.700 m away
2. Mazen,170cm tall and with a mass of 70 kg, wanted to try the famous Mickel Jackson move where he
stands and leans toward the floor. If Mazen falls to the floor find his final angular speed(assume that Mazen

3. Mazen knows that he is not a uniform rod and that his body composition is more complex so he wants to
calculate his exact moment of inertia he stands on a table that can rotate with a radius of 50 cm and he
wounds a rope around himself where the roop is connected to a block with a mass of 100 kg as shown in the
figure. Find his moment of inertia if the block descends through a distance of 0.1 m and its final speed is 1 m/s.
4. Two balls with masses M and m are connected by a rigid rod of length L and negligible mass. For an

axis perpendicular to the rod. If the distance between mass M and the axis is a and the distance between
mass m and the axis is b. find the ratio between a and b that the moment of inertia of the system will be
minimum (M = 2kg, m=1 kg).
5. A uniform solid sphere of radius 10cm is placed on the inside surface of a hemispherical bowl with radius
1m. The sphere is released from rest at an angle 30 to the vertical and rolls without slipping. Determine
the angular speed of the sphere when it reaches the bottom of the bowl.
§2 Angular Momentum
6. A 4 Kg particle moves with the velocity vector →−𝑣 = (-12i + 7j) m/s. Find the particle’s angular momentum
7. Jerry (the mouse) saw a huge disk of cheese with a radius (r = 4 m) rotating on a frictionless medium
with an angular velocity (𝜔 = 70 rad/min) and a moment of inertia (I = 320 𝑘𝑔 · 𝑚 2 ). Due to his extreme
happiness, he unintentionally jumped with his mass (m = 400 g) on the cheese disk and sat on the edge.
What is the final angular velocity of the cheese disk?
8. A 3 kg particle is at the origin at (t = 0) and moves with a velocity given by this function of time (10ti +
4𝑡 2 j). Find the angular momentum of this particle as a function of time.
9. What is the angular momentum for a rod with mass (m = 5kg) and length (L = 3m) rotating about its center
with an angular velocity (𝜔 = 10rad/s)?
10. The rotating disk (A) has a moment of inertia (𝐼 𝐴 = 200) and an angular velocity 𝜔 𝐴. The disk (B) has a
moment of inertia (𝐼 𝐵 = 100) and initially doesn’t rotate (𝜔 𝐵 = o). When disk (B) was put on disk (A) the
friction between them made them rotate together with the same angular velocity 𝜔 𝑓 . What is the ratio
𝐾
between the final and initial kinetic rotational energies ( 𝐾𝑖𝑓 ) for this system?
§3 Applications of derivatives
verify Rolle’s theorem talking 𝑎 = 1 and 𝑏 = 2.10380. Then, get the value of 𝑐 in the interval [𝑎, 𝑏] so
that 𝑓 ′ (𝑐) = 0.

12. For the same function in the first question, get the value of 𝑐 in the mean value theorem with 𝑎 = −1 and
𝑏 = 2.
Find every local maxima and minima, how could you figure out if this value is maxima or minima?
14. Find the maximum number we can get by multiplying two numbers between 0 and 5000 with a sum of
5000. (Using derivatives)
sin (1 + 𝑥 2 ) + ln (1 + 𝑥 2 )
Then, tell whether the graph is concave upward or downward in the interval [0.6, 1.2].
§4 Integration
16. Amir hates the Riemann sum (real fact btw) but is in love with integration. One day, he wanted to find the
area under the curve for 𝑓 (𝑥) = 41 𝑥 2 + 3 from 𝑥 = 0 to 𝑥 = 4. Using integration, he estimated the area to
52
be 3. Nonetheless, he also wanted to estimate the area using the midpoint Riemann sum using 𝑛 = 4
rectangles. Estimate it for him and find the difference between the midpoint Reimann sum answer and the
integration answer.
17. Evaluate
∫
sin(𝑥) cos(𝑥)
𝑑𝑥
1 + sin(𝑥) + cos(𝑥)
18. Evaluate
∫
2𝑥 + 3
𝑑𝑥
2𝑥 2 + 6𝑥 + 9
19. Amir was messing around with his pen again until he graphed a function 𝑓 (𝑥) that is integrable on R. He
knows that
∫1
• 0 𝑓 (𝑥)𝑑𝑥 = 2
∫2
• 0 𝑓 (𝑥)𝑑𝑥 = 1

∫4
• 𝑓 (𝑥)𝑑𝑥 = 7

∫4 ∫2
Help him evaluate 0 𝑓 (𝑥)𝑑𝑥 + 1 𝑓 (𝑥)𝑑𝑥.
20. The two functions 𝑓 (𝑥) = 𝑥 2 and 𝑔(𝑥) = 21 𝑥 2 + 5 cross at two points. Let these two points be 𝑎 and 𝑏 such
that 𝑎 < 𝑏. Find the area between the two curves on the interval [𝑎, 𝑏].
