Introduction
● Universities, as microcosms of society, are not immune to the various security challenges that affect
larger communities.
● Incidents ranging from petty theft to more severe crimes can disrupt the academic environment,
leading to a decline in the sense of safety and wellbeing among students and staff. Sule Lamido
University, located in Kafin Hausa, Jigawa State, Nigeria, is no exception to these issues.
● The traditional methods of reporting crimes at the university involve manual recordkeeping and
face-to-face reporting, which are often inefficient, slow, and prone to errors. This study proposes the
development of an Online Crime Reporting and Information Management System to address these
issues, aiming to enhance the efficiency of crime reporting and improve campus security.

Problem Statement
● The existing crime reporting mechanisms at Sule Lamido University are fraught with
inefficiencies such as slow to generate data, it may not be accurate, error prone etc.
● The manual process is time consuming, often leading to delays in response and resolution
incidents.
● Additionally, the lack of a centralized database for crime reports hampers the ability of the
security department to identify patterns and trends, making proactive measures difficult.
● These issues necessitate a shift to a more streamlined, reliable, and user friendly reporting
system that can facilitate timely reporting, ensure accurate recordkeeping, and enhance the
overall security infrastructure of the university.
