PART 2
Describe a special meal you have had
You should say
+Where you had it
+Who you had it with
+What you ate
Today, I would like to tell you about an unusual meal that I think I will never
forget. It was a take-out dinner party that I had with my classmates when we
finished the last examination in grade 9.
Actually, we had several kinds of parties while we were at secondary school,
either to celebrate some special occasions or to loosen up a little bit when an exam
was just over. And among all these parties, the most impressive and unforgettable
one was the one we had when we all finished our most important examination: the
national grade 10 qualification examination. And it was also the last party that we
were students at secondary school. So that meal was very special for me.
Unlike a regular dinner that we had had before, it didn’t take place at a restaurant
but in our class, where we used to study together. Classroom was the place where
we learned knowledge from teachers, buried our faces in books and had many
other activities together. This place had a profound meaning for us, so we decided
to hold a party there.
Another reason that makes this meal special to us is that we prepared this party by
ourselves, from going to the market to buy ingredients, to cooking and decorating
the classroom. Since we had just finished all our stress, this party was just about
having fun. Besides enjoying our favorite food, we spent some quality time
together during the meal. It created a precious memory in my secondary school.
PART 3
1. Describe what you think is a healthy diet
From my perspective, a healthy diet needs to provide people with a sufficient
amount of proteins, carbohydrates, unsaturated fats, fibers and vitamins. And also,
those who follow a healthy diet should eat more in the morning than in lunch and
at night because breakfast is the most essential meal during one day.
2. Are there many vegetarians in your country?
I don’t know the exact number so it’s pretty hard to answer this question but I
guess there’re more and more Vietnamese vegetarians these days. In modern
society, youngsters are motivated by the vegetarians influencer on Facebook and
Tiktok .They do the same thing as their idols do owing to imitation and benefits of
vegan eating.
3. Why do you think some people choose to be vegetarians?
Well, there are two main reasons for being vegetarians. One of them may be that
some people acknowledge the importance of eating a lot of vegetables and fruits,
which provide people with all nutrients and vitamins to keep them active. Also,
becoming a vegetarian is one way to prevent the brutal treatment of animals and
promote a more humane way of eating.
4. Is the food that people eat today in Vietnam different from the food that
people used to eat in the past? (if yes, in what ways has it changed?)
Throughout the centuries, Vietnamese people have maintained their traditional
foods, such as Chung cake, spring rolls, noodles, and so on. But in the
globalization era, many kinds of exotic dishes have been introduced to Vietnamese
cuisine, and also with the development of technology like microwaves, electronic
grills, the food we eat today can be more hygienically cooked and the taste may
have changed a little bit.
5. How do you think the way we eat will change in the future?
In my opinion, I think more and more people will have a vegetarian diet because of
the reasons I’ve just mentioned previously. Another thing is that people may utilize
modern technological appliances more in the kitchen to help them save a great deal
of time and energy. Last but not least, eating out may also become a more popular
option, especially for those who are really busy because of the rising living
standard.
6.Is American-style "fast food" popular in Vietnam? (Why? Popular with
whom?)
Actually , One of the impacts of globalization is the expansion of multinational fast
food chain to developing countries including Vietnam. These day you can see
multiple fast food joints on many Vietnamese streets such as Lotteria and KFC.
These joints are swarmed with young people who find it fashionable and trendy to
dine there. Another reason why fast food is popular with the young is the
convenience it offers. It is generally faster to eat a fast food meal especially when
you are in the rush.
7.What do you think of this popularity- is it as good thing?
The popularity of fast-food restaurants has certainly influenced some of the
changes in the community. It brings benefits to this hectic life with its quick
service and convenience place.
8.More and more people are becoming overweight nowadays. What do you
think might be the causes of this?
One major consequence of eating fast food every day is excess calorie
consumption. Most fast food contains calories from refined sugar and fats. It is
also high in sodium from salt and other addictive substance which can cause
someone to eat it more and more. Consuming more calories than human needs
leads to obesity which causes some health problems such as hypertension, diabetes,
heart disease and even cancer.
9. What does a typical meal consist of in your country?
Well. I’m an Asian so it’s rice for sure! We have it almost every single day, in
every single meal. It's simply because rice is easy to grow in Vietnam; it provides
lots of energy and it is cheap as well so everyone can afford it.
10.Do you think a vegetarian diet is better than a diet that includes meat
Vegetarians by definition don’t eat meat, some people jump to the conclusion that
simply cutting meat from your diet will lead to health benefits.
11.Do you think that food defines a culture if so how?
Yes, food plays a significant role in defining a culture. It reflects the history,
traditions, and values of a community. It can also serve as a way to connect people
and express their identity. In my country, the eating habits vary, but some common
practices include having three main meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) and
enjoying a diverse range of cuisines influenced by regional and international
flavors.
12.Do you think fast food soda and sweets should be sold in school cafeterias?
Depending on the age of the students, I don’t see why not. If they choose not to,
that’s fine, but if they choose to sell them, that’s fine too.
It is not the school’s choice to decide what a student may or may not consume.
That is the choice of the parents. It is when a school tries to decide what a parent
can or cannot feed their children that I have a problem with it.
FOOD DEBATE
1.Pineapple on Pizza debate
Why Pineapple Doesn’t Belong on Pizza
It’s so easy to take this side. It’s undoubtedly the right side of history to be on
if Gordon Ramsay, the master to please in “Hell’s Kitchen,” says pineapple doesn’t
belong on pizza. Certain flavors and textures are not for everyone, and certainly, if
you are allergic to pineapple, this would not be the topping for you.
Tomatoes and Pineapples are Both Acidic
The pineapple is an acidic fruit, just like tomatoes. If you combine the two, you
may experience stomach upset from the acidity.
The public perspective of what is and isn't healthy fluctuates throughout time.
Corn syrup, MSG, and cooking oils are just a few products that have been
subject to scrutiny. By the early 2000s, GMOs began to face that same
criticism. They became the next villain in the food industry, and brands
everywhere began declaring that their products were free of them. While many
people understand that the acronym stands for genetically modified organism,
do most actually know what that constitutes? Moreover, what role do GMOs
play in the larger conversation of food sustainability? We are increasingly
aware of the dangers that fertilizers and pesticides pose to our health and the
earth. Should we be as equally concerned with GMOs? Breaking down what
genetically modified organisms are and why they're used can help determine
whether or not their presence in our food supply does more harm or more good.
