What is Dance Composition?

• Creation of a set, repeatable dance choreography


• Both a product and a process
Vocabulary

• Creative process = exploration often in the hope of


creating choreography
• Motif = a movement idea, a small section of movement
• Movement phrase = a grouping of movements/motifs,
a sentence, a movement theme
• Choreography = the design and organization of the
shapes and actions of the body
• Visual, emotional, or narrative effect
