The following adjustment should only be applied to the “new” Barcode Scanner BCL 92.
The “old” BCL 22 should be adjusted as usual according to the Hamilton STAR Service Manual and
following recommendations within the Check_Autoload macro.
We found that the laser adjustment according to the “Service News 20210930_Update new Barcode
Scanner BCL 92” lead to “short reads” of Interleaved 2 of 5 barcodes. The “old” BCL 22 does not have
such problems. We wanted to share another adjustment we found to be quite reliable for Code 128 as
well as Interleaved 2/5.
Note: Although we do not recommend the use of Code 2 of 5 Interleaved, it is still commonly used in
many laboratories. If your customer uses Interleaved 2/5 barcodes, please adjust the BCL 92
Scanner as described in the recommendation below.
To prevent an interference, it is important that the red laser beam and the red dot from the cup sensor
do not overlap.
After performing an adjustment on the BCL Barcode Scanner run the Check_Autoload and
Check_Tube_Presence_Sensor macro.
The UltimateLabelCheck_v4.0 Method can be used to ensure that the Barcode Scanner can read
barcodes properly on reagent containers, tubes and the customers sample tubes.
