Agboy Norte
During the Spanish period, the Poblacion of Leon is called Camando. There was a road of horse
trail connecting Oton on Ogtong which was the original Spanish settlement or the seat of Government in
the Province of Iloilo and Camando.
One day, a group of Spanish officials in their horses passed several people carrying bamboo tubes
for pitching water. The Spaniards ask them where they are going and they answered that they are going to
pitch drinking water from Ulo-Agboy, which was the name of a very large tree. This place is located near
the present day’s boundary of Agboy Norte and Siol Sur. The Spaniards who are thirsty went with them
to drink water. When the time came that the Spaniards was making the way of the municipality, they gave
names to the barrios or small settlements. The name of Barrio Agboy was designated because they
remember Ulo-Agboy, the place where they used to drink water from the spring during their long and
thirsty journey to Camando.
Formerly, Barangays Agboy Norte and Agboy Sur were just one barrio. But later, because of the
increasing population, the elders decided to separate the barangay into two – Agboy Norte and Agboy
Sur.
