Dear Mom and Dad,

I am traveling on the Trans-Siberian Railway. It is the
longest train system in the world. It has several routes, but
I’m riding on the line that goes from Moscow to Vladivostok.
The journey is about 9,300 kilometers long and takes eight 5

days—that means I am covering about one-fourth of the

earth from west to east!
Today is the sixth day of my journey. Being on the train
never gets boring. ⓐ Most of the passengers are from Russia
or China. ⓑ We share our food and enjoy the beautiful views 10

together. ⓒ It took many years to build the railway. ⓓ At night we sleep in our little
beds.
For days we traveled through Siberia. Two days ago I got off the train to visit Lake
Baikal. Known as the “Blue Eye of Siberia,” it is the deepest and largest freshwater
lake in the world. When I first saw it, I didn’t know what to say. It was so huge and 15

beautiful! I ate a picnic lunch there and swam in the cold, blue water.
I can’t wait to explore Vladivostok. From there, I will take a ferry to Japan.
Love,
Daniel
