The sections updated to reflect the new and modified features in IPWeb version 2.13 are listed below.
News or sport journalists and assistant producers are users who will benefit from this application.
The IPWeb window is an integrated window from which it is possible to perform all the following actions.
Users can apply different search techniques to find the right media from the list of clips, edits and logs.
The results are clearly presented in a list, easy to consult. A Player pane is used to display the selected
media, browse it and create a clip from it if needed. Users place the selected clips in predefined bins
where clips can be re-ordered. Then, they send the bin content to target destinations, such as post-
production systems.
Logs added to media are particularly useful to easily and quickly retrieve the interesting moments of the
recorded sequences. Logs cannot be created with IPWeb, but they can be with IPDirector or
IPClipLogger. IPWeb can be used to search for logs, preview the clip(s) associated with them on the
Player pane, and create new clips based on the logs.
Depending on the workflow, different types of installation can be performed. Refer to the IPWeb
installation and configuration manual for more information on the system architecture, installation and
configuration.
Global Workflow
The IPWeb administrator must configure the IPWeb system to determine exactly which IPDirector media
are to be made available to IPWeb. IPWeb uses mpeg-# files. These files should be stored on the
streaming server which should be defined as an IPDirector nearline.
The table below details the different steps of the process and the corresponding sections describing
each step.
Step Section

Valid license keys must have been imported to XSecure on the workstation where the database is
installed.
1. Actually, when IPWeb is started, the system first checks whether a license for IPDirector Live PAM
Engine exists on the database.
This license is always a floating license (key 06). If there is no valid license, the user gets an error
message. If a valid IPDirector Live PAM Core license exists, it is used.
2. The system then requests a floating license (key 221). If such a license is available, it is used for that
user.
3. If there is no floating license left at that time, the system checks whether there is a floating license
left from the IPDFlex pool of licenses (flexible license for multiple applications) (key 239). If such a
license is available, it is used for that user.
4. If there is no valid IPDFlex floating license left at that time, the user gets an error message.
These licenses must be installed on the workstation where the database is installed.
2. In XSecure, click the Request button in the Operations area at the bottom of the main window.
3. Store the .xml file generated by XSecure on your desktop and send it to the EVS Support.
4. When you receive the file containing the license keys from the EVS Support, open XSecure and click
the Import Key File button in the Operations area:
The license key number(s) is/are imported into XSecure, and the new license module(s) is/are displayed
in the License List area in XSecure.
After 60 minutes of inactivity, the user is automatically logged out and the license is released.
2. Select Disconnect.
1. Click the [username] button at the top right of the IPWeb window.
4. Type in your new password in the New password field and in the Confirm new password field.
2.4. Settings
Accessing the Settings Window
1. Click the [username] button at the top right of the IPWeb window.

Closed captioning (CC) and subtitling are both processes of displaying text on a video screen, or other
visual display to provide additional or interpretive information. This text is usually the transcription of the
audio associated with the video file being played.
The information needed for closed captions and subtitles is present in a TTML or WebVTT file associated
with the video file. This consists of TC IN / TC OUT, position of the text on the screen, text format,
languages.
When the A/V file loaded on the Player pane has an associated TTML or WebVTT file, a button is
displayed to the left of the E/E button.
A menu is displayed. The options depend upon the parameters from the TTML or WebVTT file.
2. Select an option.
Metadata of a clip, or a log, can be displayed in the Metadata pane. Some metadata can be edited. See
section Editing Clip or Log Metadata.
• Published Groups: shows the groups the media item has been published to.
In the Bins pane, you can open as many bins as you want. Each bin is represented by a tab containing all
the clips present in the corresponding bin. Then, you can edit the bin content and send it to a selected
destination.
Only clips appear in bins. Would playlists, edits and timelines be present in a bin, they will not be visible
from the Bins pane of IPWeb.
The Bins pane contains the areas highlighted on the screenshot below.
This button is used to preview the bin content on the Player pane.
This button is used to delete the entire bin and its content.
Sometimes, thumbnails are not immediately grabbed. The system does automatic refresh and
thumbnails are displayed afterward.
• Publish: to publish or unpublish the bin content to a group of users. See section Publishing a Bin.
• Auto send: to select the target destination to automatically send a clip to a target as soon it is added
to a bin. See section Sending Clip Automatically.
• Send: to manually select target destinations to send the bin content to. See sections Sending Bin as
Clips and Sending Bin as Edit.
• Restore to XT: to restore the files from the bin to a server. See section Backing up to Nearline and
Restoring to Server
• Backup to nearline: to back the clips from the bin up to a nearline. See section Backing up to Nearline
and Restoring to Server.
• Workflow: to send the bin content as an edit to a predefined workflow target. See section Sending
Media to a Workflow Target.
• Send to Avid: to send the bin content to an Avid catalog. See section Sending Media to an Avid
Catalog.
• The selection of a type of media items in the tree: to restrict the elements displayed in the grid to one
type of resources.
• Quick text search: to perform a free-text search on a specific string from the Quick Text Search field.
• Advanced search filters : to perform a search on specific metadata associated with the elements.
An applied filter can be saved for later use. Such a saved filter can then be applied in one click. See
section Using Saved Filters and Search Templates.
See section Tree View for more information on the different types of media and associated icons.
The Quick Text Search function is used to perform a search based on free text entered in the Quick Text
Search field. This field is available on the top of the Elements grid:
See section Search and Filters Area for the description of the buttons associated with the Quick Text
Search field.
• Enter the search string in full in the Quick Text Search field.
• Start to type a search string in the Quick Text Search field, so a list of proposals is displayed, and one
of them can be selected. See sectionSearching with the Quick Text Search.
Use of Synonyms
Users have the possibility to perform a search for word synonyms, provided that they have been defined
in the database thesaurus file and that the corresponding option has been set in the IPDirector General
setting Freetext searches behavior.
Then, a search performed with a search string will return the predefined synonyms as well. This function
can be used to search for translated words.
Then you can perform the search in the Quick Text Search field as usual.
To deactivate the option, select again the Search on all columns option.
When the Search on All Columns option is activated, the search process may be slower.
The string that you enter in the Quick Text Search field is analyzed according to the following set of
rules:
Searches for the words yellow AND card. A result will be returned even if present in
Yellow card
two different fields (columns), for example yellow in Name and card in Keywords.
Searches for whole word yellow OR card. A result will be returned even if yellow or
Yellow | card
card is found in at least one field (column).
Searches for exact matches of yellow card. Between quotes, every character is
"yellow card"
considered as character and not as operator or wildcard.
Searches for just at the beginning of a word. A result will be provided if at least one
just*
word begins by just in at least one field (column).
Searches for all words that includ ber. A result will be provided if a word includes the
*ber* text ber (e.g. Timberlake, Berlin). Using such type of requests will imply much process
on the database and will be slower.
Searches for a whole field matching card.
=card For example, if a field contains yellow card, the =card condition will not return any
result.
!goal A result will be returned if goal is NOT found in any field (column) of the element.
penalty !goal
A result will be returned if penalty is found in at least one field AND if goal is not found
(or !goal in any field (column) of an element.
penalty)
penalty "! A result will be returned if penalty is found in at least one field AND if !waaw is found in
waaw" at least one field (column) of an element.
1. Select the tree branch you wish to perform a quick search on.
2. (optional) Select the Search on All Columns option from the Search button contextual menu.
Thanks to the Autocomplete function, a list of proposals is displayed as soon as you start to type and
it is refined as you go on typing.
The Quick Text Search field background is red when the user is typing or has typed a search string,
but has not applied it yet.
The different types of results are represented by an icon before each proposal:
Description:
Icon
The line displays the result corresponding to the typed letters and …
… coming from an index of words entered in text fields, such as item name, item source name, item
VarID, tape ID, item metadata text. Keywords are not indexed in this list. Several lines can be
displayed, sorted alphabetically.
… corresponding to a keyword from a keyword list.
… corresponding to a participant from a keyword list.
The proposals made for the indexed words depend on the tree branch selected at the time when a
word is typed. For example, if the Logs view is selected in the tree view, only the searchresults
performed on the Logs view will be proposed, as well as indexed words attached to logs.
Proposed keywords and participants are not linked to the selected tree branch.
5. Press ENTER to start the search, or press to clear the selection in the Quick Text Search field
The search is launched with the selected proposal on the selected element type.
The Quick Text Search field background turns green when the user has applied the search string.
All the applied filters are cleared and all the Advanced Search fields are automatically removed from
the Advanced Search area.
By default, the Advanced Search area is not displayed on the IPWeb window. Users will have to select
the advanced search parameters they want to work with. So, the corresponding Advanced Search fields
are displayed at the top of the Elements grid.
Different types of advanced search filters are available: to enter free text, to select a time/date range, or
to enter a value.
Several advanced filters, from any type, can be combined for a search. Then, the search will return the
results matching the all criteria.
The number next to the Active Filters button corresponds to the number of Advanced Search fields
selected.
As an example:
Selected Advanced Search fields are not removed by hiding the Advanced Search area and
applied filters, if any, are NOT cleared.
A menu displays the list of available advanced search parameters. Depending on the media type
(clips, logs) selected in the Tree view, different lists of advanced search parameters are proposed.
An Advanced Search field, corresponding to the selected metadata, is displayed above the Elements
grid.
• Click the cross in the upper right corner of the criterion box.

or a list of options displayed in the area for direct selection, e.g. Level field.
An arrow giving access to a menu of options is available on the right of the field. Then, additional
fields will be displayed according to the selection.
The string that you enter in a free text search field is analyzed according to the same set of rules as for
the Quick Text Search. See section Searching with the Quick Text Search.
The Autocomplete function, a help service for the capture of the search string described for the Quick
Text Search in section Defining the Filter Criteria, is also enabled during searches in free text search
fields of the Advanced Search area.

The search returns all the items to which the selected keyword is assigned AND the excluded
keyword is NOT assigned.
Context of Use
Child and parent keywords can be defined in a tree structure into the IPDirector Dictionary tool. See
section "Keywords Management" in the IPDirector user manual for more information.
During an event, the administrator can define all the player names of a football team as child keywords of
the parent keyword "team name" or "country". Users can then assign a child keyword to logs or clips.
To retrieve the media linked to all the child keywords of the same parent keyword,
5. In the Tree view, select the tree branch you wish to perform a search on.
6. From the Advanced Search menu, select the Keywords or the Participants filter.
7. Tick the Recursive checkbox to perform a search on all the child keywords linked to the selected
parent keyword
8. Enter the parent keyword on which you want to perform a search in the Keywords/Participants field.
The list of elements containing a child keyword of the selected parent keyword is displayed in the
Elements grid.
When filters have been applied from several search tools, all the filters can be cleared at once:
All the applied filters are cleared and all the Advanced Search fields are automatically removed from
the Advanced Search area.
Once you have selected some search filters and defined search values for each of them, you may save
the selection as a filter for later use.
You will then be able to apply a template of search filters or a set of applied filters with a single click.he

Saved filters differ between logs and clips. They are specific to the logged user.
The saved filters are not shared with the IPDirector database.
4. Click All, Clip or Log depending on the media type for which you want the filter to be available.
The new filter name is listed in the menu available from the Filters Manager button .
Your filter set is shown in the Advanced Search areas and/or Quick Text Search field and filters are
applied in the grid.
A filter created by a third-party application can be applied in IPWeb. If one of the criteria
cannot be displayed, a warning message occurs.
5. Click
It is possible to publish multiple filters at once. The selection of user groups will be the same
for all the filters. So, if a filter had already been published, the selection of user groups could
differ from the previous one, and the a group could not receive the publication anymore.
4. Click All, Clip or Log depending on the media type for which you want the filter to be available.
The new template is listed in the menu available from the Filters Manager button.
A menu is displayed.
3. Click

A record train, or train, corresponds to the media being recorded live from a camera and sent to an EVS
video server through a recorder channel. This type of media is not available with IPWeb.
A recording ingest corresponds to the same media for which an IN point has been marked at a specific
timecode to start the creation of a clip. This type of media is available with IPWeb.
To create clips on a recording ingest with IPWeb, the corresponding recording source must be selected
in the Player pane. In this manual, this action is called "loading a recording ingest".
To load a recording ingest (clip currently ingested) from the Elements grid, do one of the following:
The growing clip is loaded on its "OUT" point, currently being ingested, and played on the Player pane.
The linked clip is loaded at the same timecode as the initial clip.
• Click the Linked Clip Selection field. A menu provides the list of clips linked to the loaded clip.
1. In the Tree view, select the Logs branch or a log directory or a log sheet.
The clip associated with the log is loaded on the Player pane, at the log timecode.
You can then browse the clip, create a new clip and send it to a bin.
If the log has been created on a ganged recorder channel, it has been associated with all the linked clips
created on all the ganged channels.
In that case, loading a log will actually load the clip which has been created on the recorder channel set
as Preview.
The content of a bin can be checked by previewing it from the Player pane. The clips will be played one
after the other.
Limitations
Modifications brought to the bin content after it has been loaded on the Player pane will not be
previewed. You need to click the Play button again to be able to view them.
In case a recording ingest is in the bin, it will not be possible to preview the bin content.
1. In the Bins pane, open the Bin tab you want to preview.
2. (optional) Select the clip from which you want to preview the bin content.
The first clip of the bin, or the selected clip, is loaded on its TC IN.
Markers are displayed above the jog bar at each transition between clips, provided that the Display
clip position parameter has been set to Yes.
4. (optional) Click the button from the Transport commands, or press , to immediately jump to

A clip is defined by Short IN and Short OUT points, usually called IN and OUT points by the operators.
When Short IN and Short OUT points are set, the system automatically write protects a user definable
length of material before the Short IN point and after the Short OUT point. These are referred to as the
guardbands.
For this reason, the IN point before the guardband and the OUT point after the guardband are called
Protect IN point and Protect OUT point.
During playout, only the clip duration, between the Short IN and the Short OUT points is played out.
The duration of the guardbands is set with the Guardbands option from Tools > Settings > Clips
Settings > General Settings for Clips in IPDirector.
Prerequisites
Clips are sent to a bin as soon as they are saved. So, a bin must have been selected prior to or at clip
creation. See section "How to Create a Clip from the Player Pane". .
As soon as a media has been loaded, users can create a new clip from this loaded media thanks to the
clip creation functions of the Player pane. A clip can be created from a recording ingest or from an
existing clip.
Most of the clip settings cannot be defined from the IPWeb interface and are directly applied from
IPDirector.
The only setting that the user can configure from the IPWeb interface relate to auto-naming of clip.
A menu is displayed.
2. Select Settings.
It lists the various possible format string options with a brief explanation:

A bin directory can be created under the Bins node in the Tree view, or under any bin directory except
directly under the Users Bin directory .
A production bin can be created under the Bins node in the Tree view, or under any bin directory. A
[User] bin can be created under the System [User] Bin Directory (e.g. ) but not directly
under the Users Bin directory .
A new tab corresponding to the new bin is displayed to the right. The tab name is the bin name.
1. In the Tree view, hover the mouse over the bin you want to set as your default bin. This can be a
production bin or a [User] bin.
A star appears:
The next time you will log in, the default bin will be opened in the Bins pane in one of the following cases:
• no bin was opened in the Bins pane when you logged out
• the default bin was one of the bins opened in the Bins pane when you logged out
If you have the appropriate user rights, you will be able to edit the name of a bin and a bin directory.
• drag the bin from the Tree view to the Bins pane.
Any bin can be deleted from the Tree view, provided that is not opened in the Bins pane. Bin directories
other than the Users Bin Directory and the System [User] Bin Directories.
The bin is deleted and disappears from the Bins pane and from the Tree view.
The System [User] bin is the only bin which cannot be deleted.
• From the Player pane, create a clip from a recording ingest or create a sub-clip from an existing clip.
The clip is sent to the selected bin as soon it is saved. See section "How to Create a Clip from the
Player Pane".
• Load a clip on the Player pane and send it to a bin without modifying its boundaries.
• Drag clips from the Elements grid to the Bins pane or the Tree view.
Recording ingests may be added to a bin, however, you will not be able to preview such a bin.
a. Drag it/them to the Bin pane, in the tab where you want to copy them.
In the Bin pane, a vertical blue line displays between bin clips to show you where the clip will be
dropped.
The Copy Clip window opens and shows the list of bins opened in the Bins pane, except the source
bin:

source bin.
5. Click Confirm.
You can move clips within a bin to put them in a selected order.
Then, you will be able to preview the bin content in the Player pane before sending the bin to a selected
target.
Limitation
This operation is not allowed when several users are working on the bin.
Method 1
Method 2
The clips are removed from the bin but remain in the database.
Such edits are displayed in the Edits Elements grid of IPWeb. They can be managed like the bins in
IPWeb.
This means that you can drag an edit to the Bins pane. The resulting tab name is underlined with a red
line to emphasize the fact that it is an edit.
Then, you can add clips to the tab in the Bins pane, reorganize the clips, and preview the bin in the
Player pane.
The clip created when rendering the bin will keep the VariD of the original edit, so it will automatically be
inserted in the rundown instead of the original placeholder.
Publishing a bin makes its content visible to members of the group(s), or to individual users, it is

The targets may have been set from the Remote Installer or from Xsquare.
The file targets may have been set from the Remote Installer or from Xsquare.
The selection of several targets is possible and the transfer can be monitored from the interface.
Refer to the IPDirector Remote Installer Technical Reference manual for more information on
the configuration of targets and to the Xsquare user manual for the configuration of Xsquare
targets.
Transfer Options
IPWeb provides several ways to send clips to target(s). Users will select one way rather than another
depending on their role and the work they are doing on clips.
• Auto send: automatically sends a clip to a target at clip creation. See section Sending Clip
Automatically.
• Send bin as clips: sends all the clips from a bin to a target as individual clips. See section Sending Bin
as Clips.
• Send bin as edit: sends all the clips from a bin to a target as an edit. See section Sending Bin as Edit.
The Auto Send mode is used to automatically send a clip to a predefined destination target at the time of
clip creation, without clicking any additional button or key.
This mode will be chosen, for example, when an assistant creates clips and must send them to the editor
who makes the edit on the NLE system as soon as clips are being created.
When one or several clips are copied or moved to a bin for which the Auto Send mode is activated, these
clips are automatically sent to the predefined destination target as well.
1. Click the tab corresponding to the bin for which you want to set the Auto Send mode.
5. Click Confirm.
Clips will be automatically sent to the selected target(s) as soon as they are put into the bin.
The Auto send mode can be disabled in the same way it has been activated: follow steps 1 to 3 above.
From the Send To window, click the Unselect All button.
Users will choose this mode when the clips gathered for their edit are not in a defined and final order in
the bin. For example, sequences obtained at different points in time and collected as the best moments
of an event can be put in the same bin but need to be re-organized in the edit.
Transfer Limitation
If some clips from the bin do not have a hi-res element, all the clips will be transferred except those
ones.
To do so,
1. Click the tab corresponding to the bin for which you want to send all the clips.
When more than 5 targets are available from the list, a Search bar is displayed and allows you
to search on the target name.
The clips transfer is initiated. In this case, individual transfer requests are sent for each clip from the bin.
The transfer can be monitored through the Transfer Monitoring area. See section Monitoring the Transfer
Status.
With this mode, the bin content is sent as an edit to the selected destination. It can be sent to an NLE
system, where it will appear as a timeline, or it can be rendered to a storage or a server.
So, clips need to be ordered in the bin according to the same sequence they need to appear in the final
edit.
Journalists who prepare their edit themselves and thus know in which order clips must be organized in
the bin will favor this transfer mode.
Transfer Limitations
The following limitations are applicable to the Send Bin as edit option.
• If at least one clip of the bin has no hi-res element, the edit transfer will not be initiated.
• The edit rule (flatten, EDL only or EDL + clips) is taken from Xsquare.
1. Click the tab corresponding to the bin for which you want to send the content.
When more than 5 targets are available from the list, a Search bar is displayed and allows you
to search on the target name.
An edit is created with the content of the bin and its transfer is initiated.
If you only want to transfer some clips from a bin rather than an entire bin, or some clips from the
Element grid, you can make a selection and select your target.
Transfer Limitation
If some clips from the selection do not have a hi-res element, all the clips will be transferred except
those ones.
1. From the bin tab, select the clip(s) you want to transfer.
When more than 5 targets are available from the list, a Search bar is displayed and allows you
to search on the target name.
The clips transfer is initiated. In this case, individual transfer requests are sent for each clip from the
selection.
The clips transfer is initiated. In this case, individual transfer requests are sent for each clip from the
selection.
A dedicated command is available from the Clip contextual menu of the IPWeb Element grid for clips or
clips in bins. The same command is available from the Bins pane to back up all the clips from the bin at
once.
Transfers are managed by Xsquare and can be monitored from the Monitoring window.
Refer to the IPDirector Remote Installer Technical Reference manual for more information on
the configuration of nearline folders.
1. Right-click a clip in the Elements grid, in the Clips view or the Bins/Clips view.

which the selected item can be sent as file.
All the clips from the bin are individually backed up on the selected nearline. Individual clip transfers can
be monitored from the Monitoring window.
Context of Use
This can be done in different ways. A dedicated command is available from the Clip contextual menu of
the IPWeb Element grid for clips or clips in bins. The same command is available from the Bins pane to
restore all the clips from the bin at once.
Prerequisites

A Workflow Engine is integrated with IPDirector to enable more complex workflows, such as the
publication of media items (clips, bin content, single clip from a bin) to one or several social media
(Facebook, Youtube, Twitter) or to a generic Content Management System.
The workflow definition is the blueprint of your workflow. It lists and defines the different tasks within the
workflow and specifies how these are linked to each other and in which order they have to be executed.
It also describes the input parameters of the workflow and the input and output parameters of each task.
Workflow targets are configured from the Remote Installer and can be used from the IPWeb interface
such as any other target. Selecting a workflow target will trigger the execution of the workflow. The
selected media items will then go through the process defined in the workflow definition file.
Some of the workflow parameters may have been set as "editable from the IPWeb user interface" during
the workflow configuration. In that case, when a workflow target will be selected to send the media to, a
window will be displayed and allow you to edit such parameters. Refer to the PUBLISH Add-On for
IPDirector manual for more details on each parameter.
The user may only see the workflow targets published to the groups (s)he belongs to.
